It would be nice if the next major title still has shrines and definitely more traditional style dungeons.
A great idea for shrines would be to unlock accessories that enable you to progress, say to the new area and another for a dungeon plus maybe other secrets, etc…?
The gameplay needs to be more adventurous and rewarding, make the player want to explore, want to, need to complete the shrines.
BOTW was magic in the sense of exploring a new adventure, TOTK added to that but both games can be completed without completing other components of the game and also think the story needs to be more direct and maybe even change, based on your decisions and actions.
    Possibilities are endless.

I would totally be down for an Ocarina of Time remake definitely! I have been wanting that to happen for years now! But for a new Zelda game, I think the next big Zelda game should be open world like Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom for sure but have there be no more shrines, give us the traditional dungeon levels again, and have the art be realistic art like how they did in Twilight Princess. I want the next big Zelda game to have that realistic art again. That would be something I would play in a heartbeat.

honestly I don't think they're gonna ditch the open-air style any time soon, I think they're gonna keep a similar style to botw/totk but the game will take place in a new timeline in a different hyrule and will have more of a traditional zelda feel to it. but idk only time will tell. First, you’re not a real Zelda fan if you want to see the characters sullied like that! Second, you’ll never get one, because Nintendo doesn’t focus on degenerates as their target audience. And THIRD, this goes with number 2, Nintendo is focused on making family-friend games.

Right now the only hopes for Zelda is the following:
    1) *Expanded Semi-Open Sequence Break 2D Zelda* - Basically imagine a sort of Zelda 1 and ALBW type game but bigger and unlike ALBW, the maps are actually original and don't feel like a remake of an old game. Game should also feel very creative like Super Mario Bros. Wonder, but also with a lot of attention to detail and life to it like Metroid Dread. Sort of like a grounded in between. Nothing too realistic/edgy, but nothing too silly either. A typical Zelda blend of realism and weird. Something like what we see in Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess, but in the world of a top down game.
    2) *Ocarina of Time Remake/Reboot* - An expanded version of Ocarina of Time! Finally, with all three endings as they should've been to begin with. Plus with an extra ending, leading into a whole new timeline, so that the series can continue to feel new and fresh going forward, while bringing back the charm that was missing in both BotW and TotK. I think the remake should be somewhat open as, like TP, OoT was also almost open at one point in development. However, I agree that it shouldn't be the main genre of the game. I think it should really be more heavily sequence break with help of an expanded take on the time travel mechanics and reducing exclusivity on items by finding ways to make them accessible to the other Link with time manipulation of sorts. Allowing crazy things like being able to complete the Forest Temple as Young Link and Dodongo's Cavern as Adult Link. Basically, an expanded Ocarina of Time with more freedom and replay value. The game could be made using the same gameplay engine as like BotW and TotK but with Ocarina of Time gameplay functions for weapons and items. However, they can also bring in the skills from TP, finally explaining how OoT Link knew those moves. Weapons and equipment are upgrade-able and Link can find more than just three of each.
For example, these are a few of the swords and shields (Mainly Starter Level):
*Deku Sword:* A wooden sword designed to reference the wooden sword from Zelda 1. An alternative starter sword for Link! A great option for player looking for more of a challenge in the start of the game. This sword is slightly weaker than the Kokiri Sword as while it is very durable in most combat situations, like the Deku Shield, it also burns when touched by flame.
*Kokiri Sword:* The original starter sword and still the intended one for most players. Sword can still be found somewhere in the forest region of Hyrule, in a familiar but expanded maze at any given time. This sword can also be upgraded to look like the design from MM. OoT version can now break via new durability system (with a durability bar of a repair system of course). MM version lasts much longer to the point that it is seemingly unbreakable.
*Hero's Sword:* Looks like the Smith's Sword from MC when first found. But like the Kokiri Sword, it can be upgraded. The upgrade resembles the Hero's Sword seen in WW.
*Antique Knight Sword:* A Starter for a Master Sword-less Adult Link that resembles the Practice Sword from SS. It's little beat up, a bit rusted, and worn out due to age. Sword can be fixed and upgraded to resemble the Ordon Sword from TP. And then upgraded again into a sword that looks the one in Hyrule Castle from TP that was commonly mistaken as the Biggoron Sword. This sword, when fixed up becomes the "Knight Sword" and then when upgraded further, the "Hylian Sword".
    Finally, the Shields:
*Deku Shield:* This shield functions the same as the original. Upgrades to the shield make it more fire resistant. However, being wooden still makes it vulnerable to fire. One upgrade resembles the Wooden Shield from TP and can only be wielded by Adult Link. The other is compatible for both Links and resembles a version of the Ordon Shield with the Lon Lon Ranch cow emblem instead of the Ordon goat emblem.
*Hero's Shield:* Looks like the one from WW when first obtained but can be upgraded to resemble the one from MM.
*True Hylian Shield:* A version of the Hylian Shield with it's newest definitive canon design from the more recent releases. The original OoT Hylian Shield is still in the game, but it is now treated as "replica" or recreation of the Hylian Shield, explaining why it's vulnerable to Like Likes, while the new "True Hylian Shield" won't break or get eaten by Like Likes. There is also even lesser replicas of this shield that resemble the early beta designs without the red bird emblem for cheaper prices in shops called the "Sacred Shield" and "Divine Shield". A reference to SS's Sacred Shields.
Anyways, this post is getting long. And TH-cam dislikes long posts for some reason. So I'll share more later. Probably once this post has been up long enough to have been read in it's entirety.

I believe Nintendo needs to give Monolith Soft’s writers a chance to create a story and lore for the next open world Zelda. I think Nintendo needs to focus all of their efforts on developing the next 3D Zelda game. BoTW and ToTK both feel like experiments that are progressing towards something greater.

Takahashi is already full with he Xeno franchise so I doubt that will happen and also story is not the main priority of any Zelda game.. Yes some entry has more compact story compared to others but all of them are barely simple in retrospect (yes even OoT and SS)... I'd rather them focus the resources on making sure that the puzzle can be well implemented in the open world better than what they did with TotK...

I don't know if it will continue on from 'Age of Calamity' though but as somebody that liked how they had the original champions like Mipha, Revali, Urbosa and Daruk live I would love to see a game set when 'Breath of the Wild' is in the changed timeline based on the events of 'Tears of the Kingdom' with some differences. Whatever we get, they need to not focus so much on their gameplay gimmick of choice and forget to make the rest of the game behind it. The other departments need to actually be given time and attention, and a massive quality control.
Also, a smaller map. Like a solid 20-30% smaller so they can polish it better.

  • @a.jthomas6132

For the sequel of Tears of the Kingdom, I would like Link x Zelda‘s relationship to grow into a romance, bringing back the Triforce, Twinrova since she is not featured in Tears of the Kingdom , exploring other regions outside of Hyrule by ocean (since Sidon’s wife Yona comes from a different Zora’s Domain), the identity of the Ancient Hero, bringing back Kass, a well structured story that connects both BOTW and TOTK together, and to see our beloved pair become new rulers of Hyrule.
But if Fujibayashi and Aonuma is deciding to move on from this continuity, my hope is the next Zelda game have a much better established Link x Zelda relationship since these two have such a great chemistry as done in both BOTW/TOTK and Skyward Sword.

      For instance, Ocarina of Time:
If you compare the general size of the entire play areas of the game, in comparison to Breath of the wild, the difference is vast.
They could redo the entire game to match the size & play style of BoTW (Dark Souls light), but keep a general linearity to the game, whilst having trackers for side quests, pieces of heart etc.
When I talk about ‘remaking’ an older title, I don’t mean in the way that OOT has had multiple remakes or remasters (Master Quest on GameCube or HD version on 3DS), but instead a complete remake, keeping the bones of what made the game great, but giving it a fresh coat of paint and a general overhaul on mechanics.

They are probably going to stick with the BOTW and TOTK open world style games... And frankly I'm disappointed. Yes, the games are fun, and I very much enjoyed them, however... They are overwhelmingly huge which has become a very common problem with a lot of games recently, and they absolutely *DO NOT* feel like a Zelda game. Other than the very basic story elements both BOTW and TOTK just felt like your typical open world run around and be stupid games. There is also way too much monotonous grinding for parts to use in upgrades. In my opinion TOTK is practically unplayable without the item duplication glitch that they patched out in the very first update. I wish they would go back to the fun classic styles. I love both 2d and 3d Zelda, but I have a bad feeling that 3d Zelda is going to be like BOTW and TOTK from now on. Hopefully they will still make some 2d Zelda games because those will probably still be good.
For now, I just want a twilight Princess remake on the Switch! A Windwaker remake would also be smart on Nintendo's part because almost everyone has been asking for one for over ten years!

No. Ocarina of Time was not Zelda. BOTW and TOTK are the most Zelda-y Zelda we've had in 20 years, but they haven't gone far enough yet. Instead they introduced things like Shrines and Korok seeds. They need to give us back SOME dungeon items without making them compartmentalize and linearize the map, and they need to make us FIND the damn things.
They need to essentially "remake(NOT perfect 1:1 in every aspect)" The very first game of the series. We need a big open map with ultimate freedom to go anywhere we want to. We need dungeons full of unique tough enemies, and we need to find them for ourselves, not have some NPC hold our hands and tell us where they are, or mark them on our map for us. Zelda used to be all about exploration(Ocarina fucked that up), but there was always stuff to find. BOTW and TOTK screwed up the "stuff to find" part by giving us the same stupid throwaway items in chests or korok seeds that let us keep more of those same stupid throwaway items. We need more interesting and valuable shit to find when we do explore. We also need some kind of story that is actively taking place as we play, which is gonna require SOME linearity, which I'm fine with as long as the whole thing isn't linear.
I don't wanna have to bomb every single inch of the side of a mountain, and I don't wanna have to go around setting every single tree on fire. But I also don't want every bombable wall or burnable tree with something behind it to be completely obvious every time I come across one either.
One of my favorite(and also most disappointing) moments of playing BOTW was the moment I discovered The Forgotten Temple in the canyon to the north where the frozen tundra region begins. I was so excited to stumble across it because nobody in the game told me about it that I could remember. I couldn't wait to get inside and see what was in there. But then it was basically just a couple really big rooms with stationary guardians dotted about the place. In TOTK they had you go there as part of the main quest, and in the back of the temple where the goddess statue stood in BOTW, there's now an opening, and the statue has been knocked over. Immediately I got excited again, thinking it was gonna be some kind of dungeon. But again, I was disappointed because it just leads to a map of Hyrule. We need more stuff like that but with an actual dungeon inside and worthwhile rewards.
