This comparison almost made me tear up a little. The 911 has been my dream car since I was a little kid and this 2017 model is the most beautiful one Porsche has ever designed in my eyes. I hope to get my hands on one before I die :)
I just discovered Nick's videos! I really like his camera angles. He must be the only Porsche videos, that I have seen so far, that show more of the car than simply a video of the guy driving the car!
Thanks Nick. Your review helped me with a decision making process whether to buy a 2016 leftover on sale, or order a 2017. You also gave a helpful overview of the options. You are A+.
That skipping of the wheels at full lock is pretty common. I experienced it a lot when reversing in my yard in both in a Macan S and subsequently a Cayenne S Diesel. I have a base 991.2 on order... Thanks for the very informative videos. Keep up the good work!!
With the new rear vents and the cetre mounted exhausts i think the 991.2 looks a lot more retro, which i really love. Since Porsche cant follow a space age design like the R8's, then i say embrace the retro. Also, as much as i want RWD, dat rear flared wheel arches and that red line between the rear lights make the 4S so much better looking!
+Matthew Sharpe You always ask questions on my videos which I can not answer because you have reply disabled on your account. No the lane change assist is camera based.
I couldn't care less about the cars featured here and yet I'm here watching it, nick knows how to make good content, hopefully more aircrafts in the future!
Hi Nick! I'm a long time Boston terrier owner and big time Porsche lover. I watched your older videos when your car had a pool in it. Reminds me of my first car the BMW 2002. Even with the water and no heat or defrost it was so much fun to drive. Lets see little more of your dog if you can. Cheers!
Great and detailed review, as always. Porsche should put you on their payroll, for always delivering essential information for prospective buyers who care for more than just the P badge.
Thank you as always nick! No one else out there does the in detail reviews that potential buyers like me need. So I'm grateful and also always enjoy your vids!
Nick, you didn't talk about the PDK lever's manumatic function! Porsche reversed the direction of the shifts, so it's pull back to upshift versus the 991.1's push. It feels so much more intuitive now.
Hey Nick thanks for pointing out that issue with the front wheels being misaligned when backing up full lock. As an owner of a 2016 Cayman 6-speed I can tell you that same condition applies to this model as well. I can rest easy now knowing its a natural occurrence. Looking forward to that moss green 991.2 your building.
That gentle turbo spool is amazing. I prefer this over 6 cyl...better torque too. Oh and the steering wheel is so sexy. Makes the older one look like a BR-Z. Great video Nick!
Great review! Thank you so much for videos... I find them very insightful and enjoyable. The comment that you made about the rear steering was incorrect however. Honda wasn't the first car company with the rear steering it was actually Porsche in the late 1970's. The Porsche 928 was the first car with this technology. It was called the Weissach Axle.
Nice video, I picked up my metallic white 911.2 last month. one point to note, on the PCM the flap u lifted also houses the slot for a data or telephone system
Great job. A nice summary of the differences. I have a 2015 991.1 S Cab. I'm not going to get the 991.2, but this was good to know. Keep up the good work!
Hi Nick, thanks for this review on the 991.2. I really enjoy your insight in the Porsche models and your videos certainly influenced me when specifying my 991.1. I have had the chance to drive the 991.2 Targa S and thought it drove really well. Because I have recently bought my 991.1 / 4 GTS I didn't want to like it as much as I did, but the new turbo engine just makes the new gen 2 model so easy and responsive to drive. I just miss that engine noise though. I have registered my interest in the new 991.2 / 4 GTS with my local dealer when they get more details. Who knows I could be persuaded.. Keep up the good TH-cam videos
Thanks Nick. As always a very well done job... At some point would be nice to see your thought for someone buying a new car. BMW,Porsche,Audi etc... Thanks Again
I agree with you completely Nick on the GT Sport Steering wheel with the multi function being too busy.I have the multi-function on my Macan S and it looks much better!
I like your videos. Just got switched to 991.2 myself and drove it for a week. Overall I like it over 991.1, especially now more torque is available at lower rpm. The GT steering wheel has a smaller radius (360mm) than normal one. Only problem I have noteiced so far is that the car jerks (like you are in the wrong gear) sometimes when you drive uphill at very low speed. I don't know whether this is due to some program logic error between new turbo engine and PDK or something else. I asked my dealer and they have not figured it out yet since the car is just out.
thank you so much you solved a problem for me, I thought there was something wrong with my car, with the knocking noise when reversing with full lock cheers
Nick, one comment regarding the sport steering wheel. I agree with you that it looks very busy, but those rivet nut things aren't the only difference, it is also a 20mm or so smaller in diameter as compared to the regular multi function wheel.
That was a fantastic video Nick. I had no idea the 991.1 and 991.2 differed in so many ways. Personally I think the 991.1 is the better car in every way, especially the way you spec'd your car (loved the deviated stitching). You should see if you can get ahold of a GTS model porsche for a video. They are in my opinion, the highest evolution (in road going terms) of the porsche brand, and after driving the cayman and 911 gts variants I can tell you they are quite special. Keep up the good work!
can you please review an M4 competition package and also throw in how it compares to the .2 's model. this should be easy for you as an owner of a regular m4 and previous owner of the .1 you will be able to tell us who actually made progress with their product.
Not sure about the multifunction steering wheel hate, i loved it on my m56 . you can drive sporty with a multifunction steering wheel. It makes it a practical car that can hang with bimmers and MB's with the porsche driving experience. Currently with my 991.1 i miss controlling the radio and the phone from the wheel it keeps ur eyes on the road. You really need to get a 991.2, the m4 is great but you are porsche man!
Hi Nick, not sure you've driven 991.2 with PDK but one thing I noticed is that Porsche have changed the manual gear-selector direction i.e. pull to go up, push to go down (991.1 is opposite). Strange that I haven't seen one review mention this because IMO it now feels much more natural.
I don't know if anyone mentioned this, forgive me if so, but the bit of plastic around the bottom of the sides of the car is because it's a C4 and not a C2. My assumption is that is helping to deal with the wider fenders.
Great video. Production just gets better and better. A camera question - what lens/adaptor do you use on the GX7? I am just buying one and the package lens are said to be poor for video. I want to invest wisely in the best lens/adaptor for 4k and HD video for this camera. Thanks.
Thanks, Nick. Looks like 991.1 is the last and the best classic Carrera S to have. They finally made everything perfect: front, back, interior, kept old engine before ruining it all with the new front bar and turbos in 991.2.
You think that, until you drive the 991.2, then you realize the .2 is better in every way. Forget about the 991.1 as the “last great”, no one will care in 20 years that it’s non-turbo; especially because the best 911s have always been Turbo.
I really like your videos. i’m not a current Porsche owner but look to purchase one in the fall of 2019. I’ve watched your video on preparing a sample build sheet reflecting the options a used Porsche has, pricing those options using the Porsche build your own tool, checking market values of similar cars and finally applying some discount I want on the prospective car. In your opinion, is that still a viable way to approach a purchase?
Another factor contributing to the issue where one wheel "hops" while taking a turn with the steering at full lock, may come from increased camber, thereby minimizing the size of the contact patch between tire and road surface, allowing that tire to slip.
Interesting video as always Nick. Look forward to seeing what choices you make for your new 911 at the end of the year. In the meantime I hope the garage get your current ride fixed. They should give you some compensation for the extra hassle they've caused. It's bad enough when you prang your own car, but when some other ***hole has done it that really sucks!
That's generous! I'm the same - prefer to do it myself. That way you avoid damage to your car's paintwork. I've been lucky with the BMs I've had - my dealer - Sandal BMW (in Wakefield here in the UK) - have been very good to deal with. I'm changing my M235i for my 1st Porsche (a Cayman GTS) though in 2 weeks, so hopefully my new dealer will be as good or better. They've been great so far, but they normally are when you are parting with loads of cash! It's how they deal with you after that's the test. Why is it so hard for some dealers to provide good customer service?
Awesome review!!! Very detailed, even for me as a non-plus-ultra fan ;) You could have mentioned that you can only get PDCC with the rear axle steering, which makes it extremly expensive o.O
+Fabio Billa Do you mean Agate grey? The car in this video is Agate. I am not sure about the color, my favorites within standard colors are Graphite Blue and Night Blue but neither blow me away. If I can swing it I would go for a custom color.
Great stuff Nick! Keep 'em coming. Like you I am planning on a 991.2 in the near future as well. I'm back and forth between transmission though. I love a manual but shifting through gears with the PDK transmission is better than sex. I'd love to see a vid on the two options, especially from you.... and Chewie if need be ;)
I know this video is quite old but I’m curious if the 4S color is Agate Gray? I went look at a 991.1 4S in Agate Gray but couldn’t get past the brown undertone in certain light that’s not really coming through on the video. Pitty, it was just about perfect otherwise. The search continues.
Great video as always Nick, really enjoy your comparison/in-depth review, so, are you going to get the new 991.2 sometime in the future? P.s. What do you think about the new W205 generation C63S, personally I love the new look especially in the coupe form, can you do a test drive on that too when you have the chance? Really keen to see what you think about that car
I have a 2012 911C2S (991). I love my normally aspirated car but would love the new nav.. Does Porsche have a nav. upgrade or is there an after market one that would have the new features?
Like your videos, good luck with your channel. I'm in the market for a 997 x50 turbo coupe automatic ,but all the ones I find are cabriolets manual in red. Oh well , on with the surch🤞🏾
Hi Nic, great video as always. I agree completely on the GT sport steering wheel. I think it looks cheap with all the plastic chrome trim. I wouldn't order the sport package because of it. I'm a big fan of the sport design mirrors however. What are you thinking of color and interior when you do order?
+Bob L I am all over the place on colors and interior. I have a budget version of my build and I have a all in version. On the all in version I am custom color with Moss Green.
On my Macan with the Ipod connected I have to scan from A-Z each time I want to look for an Artist which is a pain!! Did you happen to check out the new PCM to see if you can type in name or if listening to an Artist you don't always start at the beginning of the alphabet.
Nick.....what are the chances that we see the aero package available as an option again? I'm not seeing it on the configurator. I'm getting rid of my M6 within the next 6 months and would like to have the aero package installed, if possible.
you forgot to mention the new exit for the new rear vents. They are on the right and left lower rear end. The air for cooling that enters through the new vertical vents exits through this.
I really watching your review. I am in the process of buying a 2017 or 18 and with respect to the .1 and .2, are they two versions of the Carrera for 2017 available at the time when that year model came out? And what is a good rule for depreciation for 911? Would 10% a year be about right?
This comparison almost made me tear up a little. The 911 has been my dream car since I was a little kid and this 2017 model is the most beautiful one Porsche has ever designed in my eyes. I hope to get my hands on one before I die :)
Hey man, it’s been 8 years, I hope you were able to buy your dream car.
You are A+.

Brilliant comparison video as always... Thanks from a 987.2 Cayman owner in Malaysia!

+Matthew Sharpe You always ask questions on my videos which I can not answer because you have reply disabled on your account. No the lane change assist is camera based.
+Nick Murray I remember that feature on the [prelude. Wow it was just like yesterday.
Lip on the side it is because you have AWD version, on the old one c4 991.1 was same lip :)
+Roman Teslya Good spotting. Thanks
TURBO!!!
YES A LONG REVIEW! LIKE BEFORE WATCHING SQUAD ANYONE?
I couldn't care less about the cars featured here and yet I'm here watching it, nick knows how to make good content, hopefully more aircrafts in the future!

+Pangata I did not know this! I will make sure I mention in an upcoming video. Thanks for the tip
O joy, a new Nick Murray video!
Great review! One more interior change, the direction of the Pdk shift lever has changed. It is now tap forward for downshift.
Nicely done as always. I am not a Porsche guy but I have a friend who is so it is nice to get caught up on the changes.
This was incredible! All your camera angles make it special.
Thanks for this one Nick. I pick up mine here in Stockholm tomorrow:) Will be a sleepless night.
That gentle turbo spool is amazing. I prefer this over 6 cyl...better torque too. Oh and the steering wheel is so sexy. Makes the older one look like a BR-Z.
Great video Nick!
That turbo spool sound is so real. Love it. A pro over the old engine. Even the small 718 has it. Legend.
Thank you Mr. Murray. I thoroughly enjoyed this video, as I do most of your videos in which you regale us with useful information. Bless you.
Your videos are always professional and thorough. Thank you for showing us in great detail all these changes.
Nice detailed review Nick. I really like the compare and contrast you did with the .1 model. Keep up the excellent job with the vids!
Love your detailed reviews, Nick! Your camera angles make them even more special!
this is why i love this channel...u find out alot ....ty
Nice video, I picked up my metallic white 911.2 last month. one point to note, on the PCM the flap u lifted also houses the slot for a data or telephone system
+Craig Haldane Normally I don't like white cars but yours is SHARP nice work!
i wish all videos i watched on youtube were like this! So satisfying.
Thanks Nick! Great info! Thanks for taking the time to put it together.
Great job. A nice summary of the differences. I have a 2015 991.1 S Cab. I'm not going to get the 991.2, but this was good to know. Keep up the good work!

Excellent review, Nick. The 991.2 is absolutely gorgeous. I'm just wondering if your friend Peter is now going to trade in his 991.1 for the 991.2.
Nice and very interesting comments before 991.2 launch.
Great review, this has answered all my questions of what the diference is as im looking for one at the moment, thanks
Thanks Nick. As always a very well done job... At some point would be nice to see your thought for someone buying a new car. BMW,Porsche,Audi etc...
Thanks Again

I see those laser jammers ;) @ 1:20
What really? Inside the middle grill? Wow I've never seen jammers placed there before
OH REALLY!!!
Very good attention to detail, Nick
Man, what an amazing review, and so very detailed. This was exactly what I needed in determining my choice of a new or mildy used 991.
Thanks!
Perfect background music selection! Great review.
One of the nerdiest car videos I've seen in quite some time. Love it :)
If you weren´t that great Nick, I would never watch a video with such content :D But you are great so I had to watch it :D
Just order my 4S last Friday. Your tips were helpful. Cheers.
Nick, one comment regarding the sport steering wheel. I agree with you that it looks very busy, but those rivet nut things aren't the only difference, it is also a 20mm or so smaller in diameter as compared to the regular multi function wheel.
+Shawn St. Denis Yes good point
nice job... enjoyed the video.. I test drove the 2017 C4S with the 420 HP... total package = $130k... very, very nice..
Beautiful cars!! I really like the gray on the 991.2.
That was a fantastic video Nick. I had no idea the 991.1 and 991.2 differed in so many ways. Personally I think the 991.1 is the better car in every way, especially the way you spec'd your car (loved the deviated stitching). Great video Nick! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the absolutely desirable 911 R that was unveiled recently!
+Kirtan L I very much doubt I will ever get to drive one sadly. They are collectors items so very few of them will ever be driven.
+Nick Murray Well you never know. You've got enough of a fan following to ask Porsche to let you try one out!
Great quality and detail as per usual, Nick. Keep well mate :)
Minor changes indeed but surprisingly many. I love em both haha
...As usual Great content Nick...plus Just love the Mozart on the background
Not sure about the multifunction steering wheel hate, i loved it on my m56 . you can drive sporty with a multifunction steering wheel. It makes it a practical car that can hang with bimmers and MB's with the porsche driving experience. Currently with my 991.1 i miss controlling the radio and the phone from the wheel it keeps ur eyes on the road. You really need to get a 991.2, the m4 is great but you are porsche man!

I love your Porsche vids. Num 1 TH-camr! hope you order yours soon!
I don't know if anyone mentioned this, forgive me if so, but the bit of plastic around the bottom of the sides of the car is because it's a C4 and not a C2. My assumption is that is helping to deal with the wider fenders.
I have eagerly waited for this video! Thanks man!
Thorough look. Thanks Nick
Nick, I understand the auto/stop feature is default 'on' in the new 991.2 and can't be defeated. Maybe you could check this out in your part 3 video.
Great video. Production just gets better and better. A camera question - what lens/adaptor do you use on the GX7? I am just buying one and the package lens are said to be poor for video. I want to invest wisely in the best lens/adaptor for 4k and HD video for this camera. Thanks.
+Ian Parrott Yes the package lens is poor for video. I use the Olympus M Zuiko lens. 7-14 mm f2.8 or the Lumix 12-35 OIS
Nice review. Would love to hear your pov on the Cayman gt4.
Hi Nick, what tripod is it in 11:13? Thanks.
Great review of a beautiful car. Really enjoy your attention to detail, well done!
Nick, did you know the GT sport steering isn't just a detailing change in the spokes? It's a smaller rim diameter as well.
any thought of putting up a video on "how to negotiate with 911 purchase"??? thanks
Just a minor comment. The black side skirt you pointed out is only on the Carrera 4's and not on the standard Carrera. Same for 991. and .2.

+Andrew Moorhouse Oh they offered me 2 free car wash. Like I would let a dealer wash my car!!
Great video - very informative and great to watch - thanks Nick
Awesome review!!! Very detailed, even for me as a non-plus-ultra fan ;)
You could have mentioned that you can only get PDCC with the rear axle steering, which makes it extremly expensive o.O
Great vid Nick for those considering the newer 911 - Cheers!
Hi Nick, cograts for the great video! You love the 911 as i do...What color combo would go for this time? I like Agatha grey with espresso leather...
+Fabio Billa Do you mean Agate grey? The car in this video is Agate. I am not sure about the color, my favorites within standard colors are Graphite Blue and Night Blue but neither blow me away. If I can swing it I would go for a custom color.
the sideskirt was there on the 991.1 GTS, 4GTS, 4, and 4S. all wide bodies had it.
Great video Nick, love the in depth videos
Can you have the rear wheel turning package with 4 wheel drive? This is a great informative video.
+Bari Vitolo Yes, this car was the C4S
Great info and video Nick!!!
Nick what cameras do you film on? The in car one facing you looks great quality
Fantastic review thanks. Really thorough. I'm about to order one so this has really helped.
Nice video Nick. Are those lines (before someone says scratches) behind the door, close to the rear fender, a 3M paint protection wrap.
+Ross Johnson Protection wrap
would really like to hear your opinion on the new boxster and boxster s. thanks for the great reviews. keep up the good work.
+Drew Merkley There's a video on that.
+Австралия Без Купюр can't seem to find it.
Do you anticipate any of the future 911 Turbo models getting stick shift?
you forgot to mention the new exit for the new rear vents. They are on the right and left lower rear end. The air for cooling that enters through the new vertical vents exits through this.
+Bari Vitolo True, I did film it but I cut out that part due to noise on the video.
Can u plz do a video for new owners how to program the computer of new Porsche ?
Thnx
Well done Nick.
I really watching your review. I am in the process of buying a 2017 or 18 and with respect to the .1 and .2, are they two versions of the Carrera for 2017 available at the time when that year model came out? And what is a good rule for depreciation for 911? Would 10% a year be about right?
I love your vids, Nick, but am distracted by the constantly cycling autofocus on your main camera. Is manual focus an option?
+fdesmet2nerds I like to keep you distracted
