I love how the music kinda feels like you are walking around a crime scene, quietly taking notes and planning your next move to try and stop someone else's, but eventually turns into an epic chorus that gets you pumped up as the city turns more and more chaotic. Musical Storytelling is an underrated art.
I adored the whole game's aesthetic honestly. Really hope XCOM 3 continues with this style and let us have more customizable alien units in XCOM. Maybe the next big bad will be the Terror in the Deep... Or maybe Elders returning to have some badass alien vs alien fights (and cry when our units die per the norm of XCOM).
Possibly yes friend, surely in xcom 3 we will have aliens in our ranks like the skirmisher of xcom 2, since they will want to continue to preserve their freedom. It will be very appreciable to see
@@buchan7369 well yes but the game (In the Bradford campaign they mention it that I remember) and well once they were released they would have wanted to rebuild their lives, I have not finished the chimera squad but surely somewhere it must say around because they stayed on earth and did not return to their old homes and if it is not there it will be in the next installment of xcom said that the other aliens are slaves
@@TheDaniel9132 the whole plot of XCOM 2 is centric around ADVENT’s genetic modification of humans - first into ADVENT troops and then avatars. The skirmishers just aren’t aliens.
@@buchan7369 You could say they're at least partly alien, since they have alien genetics in them too. Though this chain ended about 10 months ago, so I don't know if you'll respond.
Wasn't he the composer for both XCOM 2012 and DX Human Revolution? I don't remember if he came back for the sequels to either, but it would make sense that they kept the style moving forward.
Who do you have as "leader" of Chimera Squad's field operations? This doesn't include Jane Kelly, who is in charge but doesn't do field ops anymore. I use the Motoko Kusanagi mod on Steam Workshop. Having the Major as leader just makes a world of sense. Not to mention she's really powerful, being like Zephyr with a pistol. If you're playing without mods, I'd say Godmother is probably the most suitable for the "leader" role, given her vast experience and discipline.
This is less about the slow game and huge micromanagement of tasks and more of decisive moves in three different, consecutive encounters while also handling panic control and other tasks that do not always involve fighting. All in all, easy to jump into the action and enjoy the fun banter between teammates.
Xcom and aliens friends its a no go for me. Love all the xcom before. This one its too cartoony, dont even scratch the creepy and dark scenarios of xcom enemy unknown
I mean, they are "friends" because they are already free because, they are no longer under the psionic control of the elderly, although in the lore of the game, not many people agree with that union and in the gameplay of this game you see that. Now, if they take out an xcom 3, the species that are seen here in this xcom will contribute something to preserve their freedom. In fact, this concept was presented in the xcom 2 with the Skirmisher, who were Advent soldiers who were already free from control, when they won the war and all were freed. And don't worry, if an xcom 3 comes out, surely there will be new aliens, new enemies so relax
bruh xcom isnt about lore and atmosphere that much, its all about gameplay. chimera squad has real unique and enjoyable gameplay. for dark scenarious, its better to just read a book. we're all here for using badass new alien abilities to kick ass in the most epic way. and, emotional connection to the characters, i guess. be a little more flexible, ma friend!
@@misterninja7580 I would actually disagree slightly (I would like to put emphesis on slightly). Xcom 2 actually has well thought out lore on things, and a lot of stuff you would miss on a surface level glance. Like, yeah, it's rediculous that humanity would just roll over and accept their new overlords right? Well... we got our asses handed to us, but then the Elders came along and basically wiped out all of our deadliest illnesses overnight, made everyone's lives better, and generally made being a human easier... as long as you followed their rules. The world of Xcom is not so simple to be brainless, it's simple to make it easy to jump into, but there is actually a lot going on that we can't see But yeah, Xcom's main objective is the gameplay
I agree with OP and this is only 5 years after Xcom 2/Wotc events. Though in practice this lighter-hearted tone in game doesn't disturb that much. Besides there is emphasis in the game that this is not average Earth city but special city where enclave for human-alien hybrids was created. Therefore we can assume that only open minded humans decided to live there. Besides if one disables tutorial, it's possible to play it xenophobic way - select only human SWAT.

Especially that act 2 and 3 get more urgent.
I love how the melancholic BGM is interspersed with tragic radio news but also ads for weird foodstuff (like NotDogs or Big Crunch).

Still listening to this day
I love that calm (almost romantic piano) at the begining. I cant get enough of it.
RM, keeping us supplied with all our Xcom music needs, appreciated.
This alongside with old X-Com Geoscape are my favorite planning stage themes.
Sounds like a Michael McCan's composition from Deus Ex, especially at 1:05

No, McCann did compose for Enemy Unknown.

Godmother is the team mom, Claymore is the team dad
this music reminds me of interstelar or oblivion movie soundtrack
For some reason this music reminds me of Night in the Woods
I really think there was a huge missed opportunity for character development or tensions between species in lieu of the game's political undercurrents
To be fair the political undercurrents are an essential facet of the game's narrative.
A necessary drawback of having to pick a limited combination from a basket of characters.
Is Chimera Squad worth playing?
Yes!
For $10? Hell yes.
Definitly - I found myself playing for about 2 hours straight, only then realising I needed to get some university work done
It's got that same XCOM tactical and strategic feel, you get to play as aliens, and it's ten bucks. It's worth.
