Hey Brian. Someone just mentioned it in the comment section and I was meant to say in the video as well but Event Horizon does feel a bit like Hellraiser in space. There is massive similarities when you think about it. It is a beautiful looking set but I have seen better if I'm completely honest and I really do hope you pick it up Brian because you're clearly a fan of the movie and you owe to yourself to own this version of it. For anyone hooked on this Movie, when visiting or passing through Westport Ireland, stop for a coffee and perhaps a novel or two at the Tertulia Book Shop...Unit 2 The Harbour Mill, The Quay, Westport Co. Mayo, F28 X2T6, Ireland.....the owner worked at Pinewood Studios UK, in movie production, and has movie props and pieces of the set from Event Horizon such as 'The Core' ...well worth a visit 👍

I remember reading the same Empire Magazine, seeing that same image and thinking that this movie could be epic, I have to see it. And yes it was nowhere to be seen in the movie, probably some of the lost footage. Would have been so amazing to see a Director's cut of Event Horizon. Getting my copy next week from Amazon Italy. Great video Keith.
I remember when is featured in Empire the amount of pictures they showed from the movie and barely any of them were in it. I remember they show a great picture of Jack Noseworthy and look like he had cracks all over his face and neck. I thought it was very creepy and it was a shame we never got to see it and maybe it is in all the lost footage. Hopefully someday we will get to see that Director's Cut. I chose to go with the steelbook, couldn’t bring myself to spend the extra £15 for a poster and a patch this time after the similar escape from LA box set. I would of but I sourced the scream factory Blu-ray with slip about 3 days before the 4K was announced and at the minute every penny counts, great video as always Keith
Hey Paul. To be honest I don't blame you for getting the Steelbook version. I couldn't help but feel a little bit underwhelmed when I finally got this into my hands. Like I said in the video the envelope that you get with the Steelbook I thought was overkill when you consider everything that was inside it. Like I said in the video I never picked up the scream factory edition of it but going by the comment section apparently the scream factory release has a lot more features on it than this one. So maybe it's just as well you have the scream factory release
Did like Sunshine that was made in 2007 great Sci fi horror. Wonderful edition this getting this for my birthday later in the month 🎂 🥳 👍
Hey Matt. I did enjoy sunshine myself but I wouldn't really call it a sci-fi horror movie. But a great movie nonetheless. It is a beautiful edition but I have to admit it's nothing near as good as the likes of the Edge of Tomorrow or the Batman editions I showed off recently. But I think you're going to be very happy with it when you do get it Matt.
@@millerman9991 I'm finding Paramount very sloppy with their 4k releases Escape from L.A the sound mix was terrible .I hope the Star trek motion picture release and all the original star trek film 4k releases are good not much confidence in there recent releases at moment only time will tell!😞
It's funny because I mention that in this video that the set reminded me a little of the escape from l.a edition. Now when I say it reminds me of it it's miles better than that release but the little pieces that you do get with this seem a little pointless particularly the pin. But don't let me put you off it Matt it's still a beautiful release and the Steelbook itself is fantastic
@@MattVs_Movies You might have the version with the Audio defect. Check the back of your case and if it has a white barcode the it's the defect one. They corrected the audio and started recalling the older ones. It should have a yellow barcode for the corrected one. There is also a link somewhere to claim the corrected disc through the post too. Same thing happened with Hard Target from the US.

Oh wow ! I’m waiting for mine , I saw this 25 years ago in Streatham Cinema on Cheap Sunday while I lived in London as a teen. I agree with it been amazing , gave some flavour and direction to one of my fav horror/ sci fi games Dead Space series which is been rebooted.

I actually forgot to mention that in this video because it massively reminds me of Dead Space and that's probably one of my favourite horror video game and I cannot wait to play it's remake. As a matter of fact we are kind of getting a spiritual sequel to dead space in November with that game the callisto protocol. That game looks remarkable. This edition is very nice but I have seen better if I'm completely honest and the 4K transfer is decent. All and all I'm very happy with it and thank you so much Conor for checking it out
Annihilation was a pretty cool scifi militaristic horror film. And there's a little film made by the guy that did the first Blair Witch film called The Objective, it's more militaristic modern horror but it does feature scifi in it. It's quite good.
I keep forgetting about Annihilation and I need to pick that movie Up. I've heard so many great things about it and I'm almost certain it got a 4K release so now that it's fresh in my mind I might go hunting it down. Thank you so much for the recommendations
The one paramount 25th anniversary edition 4k steelbook they put out is absolutely a wonderful design with a clear beautiful slipcover! I was lucky to get one at walmart online because they all sold out quick.. Also I already had the scream factory blu ray edition but never watched it yet. I seen the movie before in theaters a long time ago.
The Steelbook is beautiful there is no denying that and I think the slip case really does help it. From what I've been hearing it's just as well that you own the scream factory release of it as well because apparently that edition has more features on it than you get with this 4K release. Picked up the US Steelbook on Tuesday but ordered this edition now for the extra collectibles. Big fan of this film.

I was a kid when this came out. My mom wanted to see it and I wanted to see James and the giant peach but my movie didn't start until 45 minutes later. So I sat in her theater and watched a decent amount until my movie started and man this movie gave me nightmares for a week. I didn't come to appreciate it as a classic Sci if deep space horror until I got older.
It's funny that you mentioned not appreciating this movie when you first seen it because myself and my fiance were the exact same. As a matter of fact I would nearly go as far as to say that we hated the movie when we first seen it. Then for some strange reason we decided to go for a second time and we really enjoyed it on the second viewing. That happens a lot with me

Hey Gary. I heard something very similar when it comes to lost footage. Apparently it's lost somewhere in the vaults of paramount and they reckon that we will never get to see them. But never say never. You can sort of tell when you're watching the movie that there is certain scenes missing. Not taking anything away from the movie itself it's fantastic

Hey Mike. Honestly I think it's the best its ever looked but it is a little too dark for my liking. Now I've got kind of used to picture being darkened particularly with Dolby Vision. But this movie just looked a smidgen too dark. Still a great release though and like you said in its correct aspect ratio.
Event Horizon is such a great film, its bit like Hellraiser in space. The sets and SFX are brilliant as well. That blueprint of the ship looks good in this set.

Pandorum is quite a solid sci fi horror movie if you haven't seen it.

Some of us don't have enough cash to pick up every release, we need to be very picky sometimes. So, a "better off blu" show would be appreciated.

That is a fantastic suggestion and I completely understand that people would not have the money to buy every 4K release particularly the ones that they have on Blu-ray already. So to put a video of what Blu-rays are actually better than 4K is not a bad idea. I did do my top 10 worst looking 4K Blu-rays so in a way that would kind of fall into that category.
Love event horizon! I do have the scream factory release and though it might not be much of an upgrade, you know I gotta get it on 4K nonetheless 😅
There was no way I was ever gonna put you off this movie 😂 😆. It really is the best the movie has ever looked but by a small margin. Like I said in the video I don't own the scream factory release so you might be a little more disappointed than myself. Thanks for checking it out Ben

Even now I'm still trying to think of a good sci-fi horror since this movie and I honestly can't think of one. I think the closest I've seen is what I watched last night. I went to see Nope in the cinema and it's a decent sci-fi horror movie. Definitely worth checking out
Keith! Another great video! I don't always get a chance to comment, but I always love watching your videos. You are the gold standard for reviews, as far as I'm concerned. I'm curious, why do you think Dolby Vision seems to darken the picture so much? I recently made the jump to 4K, and I have a 75 inch, 4K TV as well. I love watching movies in 4K, but sometimes they just seem a little too dark for my taste. I have the Scream Factory bluray edition of Event Horizon, and the transfer was done from a new 4K scan, and it looks amazing! Excellent detail and clarity and definitely not too dark. Just the right balance, IMO. Anyway, keep up the fantastic work! You are killing it! - Steve

I would love to explain to you why Dolby vision darkens the picture so much but I honestly don't know why it's happening. It doesn't seem to happen near as much when it comes to HDR but whatever it is with Dolby vision it just seems to darken the picture every now and again not all the time. I think the fact that you have the scream factory edition of event Horizon I would love to hear what you would think when you see the 4K transfer because something is telling me you might be a little underwhelmed by it. Apparently the scream factory edition has more features as well. So I would probably stick with that edition that you have

Good review, Keith. I might hold off based on that review until it’s a bit cheaper. Seems the HDR might have gone the same way as the new controversial Heat 4k - which I’m on the fence about buying. Saw your older reviews of Childs play blu ray - I’ve got my shout 4k version on order as doubtless you have (looking forward to the atmos). Cheers
What I think I might do is knock off the Dolby Vision and see if it makes any difference when it comes to Darkness. But I do have to say event Horizon was never a looker on any format and I honestly think you have to temper your expectations slightly. It's the best its ever looked but I was expecting a bit more. I do want to pick up the childs play movies just not at the moment. I might wait till they go down in price because it cost a lot of money to import them over here. I just seen your unboxing of the Steelbook and you seem quite happy with it and you should be because it's a nice Steelbook. The lack of Dolby Atmos is criminal and I'm not sure why they didn't go the extra mile and put it in. Paramount being lazy again

Hey Shane. It's a beautiful looking release but I have to admit I've seen better. Wasn't too crazy about some of the items you get in this set particularly the pin. But let's face it I think it's the Steelbook we wanted when it comes to this release and that looks fantastic. Apologies for the mix-up Shane. The item beside the predator head is my Gates of Hell trilogy vinyl. It's the soundtracks to City Of The Living Dead, House By The Cemetery and The Beyond. Its a beautiful edition. Oh by the way I completely agree with what you said when it comes to Event Horizon and Dead Space. There is massive similarities with them and I cannot wait to play the remake in January

Hi Keith, I should be unboxing it myself but Amazon only took payment today so won't have it until monday/Tuesday.... Slipcase and steelbook look great tho. Thanks for the heads up about the dolby vision which is becoming a running theme now, I'm gonna watch it on hdr10 with optimiser. Lg,s oleds seem to suffer most from dark dolby vision. I was thinking at the start you said that there's been nothing space Sci fi really since Event Horizon, the last one I watched recently that's sort of like it was Pandorum, rewatched it recently and wish we were getting more of this type of films.
Hey Steve. It's a nice release no question about it but I have to admit I preferred my Edge of Tomorrow release and Batman editions over this one.
I think I'm going to feature this movie in another video only this time I'm going to deactivate the Dolby Vision and see what the HDR looks like. It really is starting to become a thing now with Dolby Vision and the way it's darkening the picture. You know as well as I do when it comes to OLED it's never going to be the brightest picture and you don't want your Dolby vision darkening your picture even more so. Pandorum was ok. It's one of them movies that I probably need to watch again but I do remember the ending being fantastic. I'm almost sure Paul Anderson had something to do with that movie as well.
@@millerman9991 Yeah Keith I despise Paul ws Anderson and I suppose a broken clock can be right twice a day with Event Horizon. Of course for me he had some of my favourite properties like resident evil, then being a lazy prick and using an unused residential evil set for a terrible avp film. There's some others too. I did read recently on the bluray forum that for certain films and sets you can try what's a manual dolby vision by turning dynamic tone mapping on with the hdr optimiser together, while not being super accurate can have good results, I'm open to trying things and any suggestions for lg user aswell. Would be nice to have a work around method for poor dolby vision releases.
Thanks for the heads up on that Steve. I will definitely look into it because it really is starting to become a habit with Dolby vision at the moment and the way it's Darkening the picture.
I wonder what Paramount's excuse will be for no DolbyAtmos?
I'm sure they will come up with some stupid ass excuse for not having it. The only thing I will say is the 5.1 True Dolby is quite brilliant. But it could have been so much better
The steel book looks great, Keith, I've had this movie for years but never watched it, I think it's about time I gave it a look. Prometheus is another sci-fi horror I've never seen.
Wow Gary this is an absolute must watch movie. If you're big into your sci-fi horror movies I think you might get a kick out of this movie. Prometheus is a great movie as well but I don't class it as a real sci-fi horror movie like event Horizon. Maybe I'm just nitpicking. I hope you do decide to check it out someday Gary because I think you might like it

You know I got mine, but sad to hear there's no Atmos and the HDR seems a bit off. Missed opportunity for sure.
Unfortunately these things do happen and they all can't be winners. Thankfully the set itself is quite decent and the Steelbook as you know is beautiful. Still very happy to have it in my collection
Compared to the US edition the UK editions of the slip
Box cover always has the age limitation signs. Can’t they put it at the back cover
I don't understand why they don't put them onto the back. If you think these are bad checkout Germany's release of it. The ratings take up a quarter on the box 😆 🤣.
@@millerman9991 Yea! that's a big let down for collectors who want to see the original art on the front cover. Also i don't understand why the supplementary blue ray discs that come with 4k UK editions are not "region free". In one of the you tube channel, the reviewer showed that for the Daniel Craig James Bond collection, the Spectra blue ray comes only as a Region 'B' while the rest are not. The entire Daniel Craig 4K collection box set is sold as "region free (A.B,C)". Why cant the studio maintain both the 4k Disk and the Blue rays in them as "Region Free"? It's like they are dumping their unsold Region B blue rays to international customers. It's like if you open the UK versions you don't know what you gonna get.
To be completely honest I never fully understand this whole region thing. Thankfully now with 4K we don't have to worry about it anymore. But I think Blu-rays from now on should just be region-free as well.
Have you tried watching the movie without Dolby Vision would be interesting to see the comparisons. I find DV tends to over darken the image compared to standard HDR. I do see that the included blu ray is from 2013 or so and does have incorrect ratio and is washed out in terms of colour. The Shout Factory is using the 4k scan and has a lot more features, and exclusive features not found on this, and it also has the correct ratio so by the sounds of it that's the better version to get.
Having seen both I prefer Dolby Vision darks to HDR10+
I've send it to a few people in this comment section I am going to feature this movie again in another video and this time I am going to deactivate the Dolby Vision and see what the HDR does for it. It really is starting to become a trend now with Dolby Vision. I have to admit I checked out the Blu-ray before doing this video and the colours weren't as washed out as you think. I'm talking about Event Horizon here there's little to no colour anyway 😆 😅. I did say in the video that people that own the scream factory edition of it might be very underwhelmed by this release and from the sounds of things I might be right because I honestly didn't know they had more features on their edition of Event Horizon.
@@millerman9991 The shout factory has 12 new interviews starting with Paul W.S. Anderson right down to the Location Manager and sound designer. The best of both worlds would be to pop the shout factory is this hard box set and dump the blu ray 😀

Keith great video I need to pick this up. I just watched another sci fi horror movie for the first time the incredible melting man from 1977. It has some incredible make up effects from rick baker and some awesome kills in it. I'm curious on what you thought about the Hellraiser uncut trilogy from Turbin-shop.
Hey James. It's a beautiful release from paramount but I have seen far better and I was a little underwhelmed by the 4K transfer. I've heard of that movie The Incredible melting man and I honestly didn't know Rick Baker done the effects for it. Will definitely need to check that out. I checked out the hellraiser trilogy from turbine and I thought it looked great and I might actually pick it up. Thanks again for the heads up on that James

Scream Factory release is better tho they were unable to get the original directors cut of the film featuring more footage as the original master tape was destroyed after editing most of the gore out before releasing it in theaters
Hey Mark. That director's cut doesn't even exist as far as I remember. I'm almost certain Paul Anderson said a lot of the footage was lost in the vaults of paramount and chances are they will never be found. It's a shame when you think about it because I would love to see a director's cut of this movie

Like you say, the extra stuff you get is nice, but fairly pointless.
And it's a shame the 4K picture doesnt seem too great by the sounds of it 😕

Hey Mike. Yes I have to admit I was a little underwhelmed by this edition especially when you compare it to some of my recent releases of Edge of Tomorrow or the Batman movies. The 4K picture quality is definitely better than the Blu-ray I just didn't get that giant leap that I wanted. You do have to remind yourself that you are watching Event Horizon. It was never a looker. The lack of Atmos is absolutely criminal. I think this could have been so much better. It's a shame but I'm still very happy with it

Funnily enough, I don't even own the movie, even though I love it.
I will probably pick up the standard version, and hopefully it will come with the blu ray too. It could be a case where I opt to watch the blu ray instead of the 4K!
I'm sure they will bring out a standard release. As a matter of fact I'm almost certain you can get the Steelbook in this edition by itself. Maybe something to look into. Thanks again Mike for checking it out

There's no denying that the lack of Dolby Atmos is ridiculous especially for a movie like Event Horizon. Having said that the true Dolby 5.1 really does sound amazing as well. So don't be too downhearted by it

Going to ask a stupid question Keith so don't laugh, Do you think Dolby vision is worth it? Everytime i look at a 4K with it i wonder if the film will be to dark and worth getting. The Studio's must have people that test the discs before release. Thank mate.
Hey Mark. I can tell you now that is not a stupid question and I'm starting to question it myself. Thankfully with my 4K Blu-ray player I can deactivate Dolby vision so that means it will go to HDR instead. I haven't tried it yet but I'm curious to see will it make a difference particularly on this Event Horizon release. To be honest I never really bought into Dolby vision when It came out because I felt that HDR was just as good if not better. The way Dolby vision is going at the moment it probably would be better to knock it off and not have it at all. I can't believe I'm actually saying that but when you do watch event Horizon or even the Witch and how dark they look I honestly think it would be better to knock off Dolby Vision.

Well i missed out on the uk release and got the steel book from Amazon italy cost 31euro but i noticed disc loose when i got it, played movie and audio dropped out and image froze after approx 36 mins i Cleaned disc and tried 3 times same problem. Asked for a return and refund and it states refund issued no need to return item ! i purchased wonder woman titans 4k and a media book version of Drive 4k { never seen this before) for around 56euro. At checkout it discounted price by 31euro which looks like the refund for event horizon so i have possibly ended up with a copy of Event horizon steel book which apart from the bad disc is mint and the titans Wonder woman movie and drive 4k for £21..need to check my card account to see what exactly happens but it could be a result just need to wait and pick up a cheap undamaged event horizon 4 disc 😅
If that has worked out for you the way it sounds then that is an absolute steal. Yes it's a shame about event Horizon but hopefully you can pick up the disc by itself on eBay and just put it into the Steelbook. Drive is a fantastic movie and I really hope you enjoy it and the Wonder Woman Titans release is absolutely beautiful. Wait till you see the Steelbook on that release. Amazon Italy are amazing when it comes to the Titans of cult releases. Check out out there next release the thing on Amazon Italy. Looks very special

I specifically got this because I wanted that original cover on the box set. I agree re pins; Shout Factory is obsessed with them in their most expensive items. Do people in the industry want....what...to put them on our battle jackets from high-school? Come up with something more creative for crying out loud, how about a pister or small lenticular of the young kid with blood-shot eyes, etc. Puns are so...how do I put it...girly?! This pin is like them throwing us an ant-infested bone and saying here you go, this also makes this release "Limited Edition." Aghh...in any event, let me go get my blood-pressure meds.
Hey Julian. I honestly couldn't agree more with you. I tried to be as optimistic as I can be with this release but there is no denying I was very underwhelmed by it particularly when I opened that envelope and seen that patch and pin fall out. Two of the most pointless things you can get with a release like this. Like you said why not put in lenticular magnet to put over the steel book. Put in a nice book and give us some behind the scenes stills. Anything but a pin and patch. Like yourself I wanted the original artwork because I do love it and the Steelbook thankfully is beautiful as well. So I find there is more positive than negatives on this release but it was definitely a close call. Thank you so much for checking out the video. I really appreciate it

I think that is the most important thing the fact that you're happy with what you got and I have to admit even though I was underwhelmed I'm still very happy to have it and I still would've spend the money on it either way. This is becoming a theme with 4k and DV it's making the image way to dark i have seen complaints about Heat which to me seems a lazy release with no effort to give a atmos soundtrack on either films. Gutted as I love both movies.
What I need to do is deactivate my Dolby Vision and Let the HDR do the work and see if it makes any difference. A few times that has happened there with Dolby vision where it's darken the picture considerably and I heard similar things about heat as well and it's probably why I didn't pick it up.
@@millerman9991 managed to order another titans of cult it was A clockwork orange from a seller on eBay new unopened for £19 delivered he has very good feedback but unfortunately used evri or my Hermes and it looks lost 🙄 they are useless if a problem crops up as I had issues myself. He is aware of it so see what happens..avoid these at all costs ! They are cheap for a reason I went back to royal mail after my shambles with them.
I am so sorry to hear that. I've never used Hermes and just as well I didn't because I've heard horror stories about them. I really do hope you get this sorted out and fingers crossed that maybe somewhere down the line it might arrive for you because it's a beautiful edition.
With the disc stating that Dolby Atmos is included, shouldn't that be evidence for a refund if you've purchased one not realising? False advertisement
I'm still trying to fully understand why Dolby Atmos was written on that disc and I have to tell you that its not the first time that has happened. I've seen it numerous times. It really is misleading and if you didn't do your homework on this release you really would have had your hopes up after reading it.
I honestly don't know what they were trying Lenny. But like I said if you just came across that on the disk you would instantly think that the disc itself has Dolby Atmos. It's very strange

Honestly I think the edge of Tomorrow edition looks far better than this release. I love the clear slipcase that you get with it and definitely recommend picking that up before this one. Of course it all depends on which movie you prefer as well
