One of the greatest sci fi/ horror/thriller movies. Underrated
Yes it’s been very overlooked & underrated for many years. Heck when it originally came out in cinemas it performed horribly & was considered a complete flop/failure lol!!!! 🤣 Now people are starting to come around more & more with this film & enjoy the exceptional Sci-Fi horror world the director created. I love the grounded Sci-Fi ships & look of the film overall, very harkening back to the original Alien movie feeling of their ships, I just love it🥰
You are the best reviewer for 4K Blu rays! The comparisons with previous releases is really useful and all the insight into the transfers. If I am on the fence on upgrading my Blu ray, I always come see your reviews.

I’m so glad that I got the Shout/Scream Factory release about a year ago. I will definitively be picking up the 4K. I wished that they’d configured the audio mix to Atmos but the original track was awesome anyway! Keep up the great reviews!
Thanks, I agree ☝️ that’s what I shared in this video about wanting a Dolby Atmos track, but like you said the audio they did give us is still great 👍 . But I will say I am addicted to getting new Atmos tracks to test out, I feel it does add a new level of immersion if implemented correctly & can make older movies feel new & fresh.

@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia I think the one Atmos mix that has stood out for me would be NO TIME TO DIE. There are quite a few others that stand out but that’s one that jumps to mind the most. GODZILLA VS. KONG was also very good!
Just got the 4k version///I went to the theater back in 1997 to see this///great Sci fi/horror movie/classic
Just watched this on my LG BXOLED via Dolby Vision, miles ahead of anything that was previously released. Shout Factory definitely puts in effort for their 4K releases. CandryMan and LifeForce are two other examples though LifeForce got ripped off and didn't include the director's cut as 4K which is a shame.
First time I saw this film is really creeped me out and I’ve loved it ever since, it’s such an underrated film and a shame we’ll never get Anderson’s Directors cut. Looking forward to picking the 4K up. Great video!! 👍
Just watched the films at home review of this and my god your video is vastly superior.The amount of work you put into these 30 minute reviews are amazing his was 8 minutes including the intro,no hate his way but its obvious who cares more! Keep it up!

Thanks for your super comments, I had so much data & details between each version of Event Horizon to cover in this video, it’s always a struggle to decide how much data & details everyone wants to know about each version that’s been released, so I try to stick to just the most important differences to highlight what version is the Ultimate edition to own!
Excellent video! Very well explained, a review that deserves respect. I apologize for my writing (I'm from Brazil, and I only know the basics). I will give a suggestion about the screenshots of the movies, as it is not possible to post an image in HDR, since it needs 3 simultaneous images; It is possible for you to show the captures of the movies straight from your TV through a camera, so we will have more fidelity of how HDR acts in the scene.
I just watched the 4k disc last night and you are absolutely right: the upgrade is amazing for this movie. It looks so natural and filmic in 4k, the skin tones are great, the scenes in space have so much depth now. I also own the 2008 standard edition and it looks so artificial and digital in comparison. But (maybe it's just me) I remember the soundtrack on the blu-ray disc being a little louder. It's ok on the 4k disc but it seems to me that they tamed the levels a bit. On the other hand, the LFE is very strong.

I saw this in theaters when I was 15, had to walk home with my buddies in the middle of the night, freaked us out lol always loved this movie, great to hear the 4k transfer is a quality one. I'll still never get over the fact that there was footage of the orgy torture scene and about 40+ mins of extra footage that was destroyed and never made public. I wish companies would at least digitally archieve extra footage, but the way some directors are, youll NEVER see some edits... David Fincher I'm looking at you...
also, is the black dot on the slip cover a sticker? It looks like its on the inside of the slip cover.

Yah, I am struggling with the HEAT 4K comparison because I have gotten tons of messages & there has been so much miss understanding, miss-information, misperceptions & overall drama surrounding that release that people feel very strongly based on some reviewers videos & their overall big lack of research, understanding & total lack of ways to properly test a 4K, especially before they created their video influencing people. Also those videos have drastically influenced peoples opinions already for the hate & negative for that 4K release! So I feel based on all the messages & comments that I have received, that no matter what I cover in a video people have already believed a tainted viewpoint without considering the true point & reasons behind the 4K release. Really just feels like a losing video to create to be honest lol!!!!

Very cool comparison of Event Horizon James. I have the blu-ray but I'd love to get that 4k steel book it's one of the best sci-fi horror movies I've ever seen before it's worth the upgrade 👍🆒 and it's region free 👍
Literally just started to watch this on amazon.. Not seen in years and whilst it's clearly an alien clone the sets are superb, the effects are fine even today, the story is a bit silly but I'm loving it...
What, if any, did you notice Audio wise between the Shout! release with Dts-HDMA 5.1, vs the Dolby TrueHD 5.1 on the 4K? I’ve read a few reviews that gags higher marks to the Blu-ray from Shout!’s Dts-HDMA 5.1 🤔🤷♂️. Thx.
As someone that works in tv/post production, I'll never understand these releases that have wrong aspect ratio (squeezed) or bad matting (see back to the future orig DVDs) or poor grading (Heat releases are all over the place). The aspect ratio thing is a rare but lethal mistake - really destroys the movie viewing experience for me. Anyone know other releases that were squeezed or incorrectly letterboxed for home video? I'm obviously not talking about 4:3 conversions - simply referring to standard widescreen releases that were mangled in their home video release?
I personally found the stereo mix on the blu-ray to be better than the 5.1. Would have been great to have gotten an atmos as they even mention in the special features the rushed editing of the film for the release date after all the test screenings hurt it.
Could’ve been like the directors edition for the start trek motion picture but sadly the 4K only has the 5.1.
Hope paramount do a rerelease like Sony is with the stereo audio included even if it is Dolby digital like how The Godfather & dirty dancing had on 4K
2nd comment for you: how does a person go bout getting their tv calibrated professionally? I’ve tweaked my tv’s to look really good but never had anyone to work on them.
It really depends on where you live because in most big cities there are companies you can hire to come professionally calibrate your 4K tv & HDR setup, if you live in a small city with no companies that do it you can always try doing it yourself with the correct equipment & know how! But to be honest the companies that do it are most of the time your best bet for simplicity!

@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia Either the Robocop 4K or that Never Ending Story 4K German release. I’m still on the fence about getting it. Whilst it’s obviously the best release, the music is a big part of the nostalgia for me.
I've got the Shout Factory and love it. It's too bad the 4K went out of print so fast. If it ever comes back I'll probably double dip on this title.
Weird, the SF blu ray I have looks more like the UHD on the left when I play it on my tv, why is the SF looking so dull and murky on here? TH-cam compression I guess or the software you used is showing the image in its purist raw form without the tv/player upscaling, I think you mentioned that once.
Hey James, I bought the regular 4k 2 disk release not the Anniversary edition Steelbook. Are the 4k bluray the same versions in both sets?

Shout Blu-ray (the one to the right) the color-grading is much better on the the shout - its too pumpes in the contrast on the 4K
Interstellar copied lines of dialog word for word from this movie. When i saw interstellar in theater and they explained the folding... Completely ruined the movie for me I was like lazzzy lol.
