I've got a 2-DVD release from 2017 of a totally remastered "The Good The Bad and The Ugly", and I have to say for a DVD, the picture quality and color is truly remarkable, they did some work on this one, even for a DVD. I do want to get the 4K/Blu-Ray version your showing on this video. There is one thing I'm surprised about that this new 4K/Blu-Ray release doesn't have! On my 2017 remastered release there is 18 minutes of the original film restored to the movie, making the running time 179 minutes. I noticed when you showed the back cover of your 4K set, it showed a running time of 162 minutes. I would think they would have included the added footage that was included on the 2017, DVD remaster! ?? I'm gonna get the 4K/Blu-Ray remasters anyways, love your channel, it's great!

I don't have a 4K set-up yet but I bought The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly last year because I wanted the theatrical cut on Blu-ray. I've been collecting a bunch of Eastwood movies since my VHS buying days.
And I'm pretty sure those other two are releasing on what happens to be Eastwood's birthday

Thank you for saying that about slipcovers. It's insane how so many people worship slipcovers nowadays. Especially when the picture is exactly the same as the one on the case most of the time. So many of these youtuber film people are collectors first and film lovers second.

Absolutely! It's this current "collectors first, film lovers second" attitude that prompted me to make the recent "Why Do We Collect" video with Aaron Pynn. Movies are not baseball cards. They're entertainment, not investments. I love a well-done slipcover, especially if it has alternate artwork, but it's just cardboard. I do like the way they look, but the movie is the most important thing!

A definite must buy for me. I have the previous KL Dollars trilogy and although the colour timing doesn't bug me as it does some it's definitely over the top and distracting in some places.
The Good Bad Ugly 4k previously released (a year ago already?!) was really nice so excited to get these ones.
Of course it's hard not to rate TGTBATU as the best one but I have a very huge soft spot towards For A Few Dollars More. Or is that a hard on for it... 🤔. Anyway you get the gist ! 😆.
The HDR thing is an interesting one. I agree that it isn't always necessary but also it's expensive to do it so maybe KL didn't have the budget to go that far for what might have been little gain?
Their release of The Great Escape has no HDR and it was up against a very nice 1080p Criterion Blu ray but despite the lack of HDR it still looks significantly better than the Criterion in my opinion. I have both so I did a side by side ... What can I say ..I was bored. Lol
Anyway very exciting to see these and will be pre ordering straight away. I know the slipcover is hardly important but I'm OCD and my Good Bad Ugly 4k has one (and I fortunately have them for other KL Eastwood Blu ray titles they released) so would be nice to ensure the first 2 dollars 4ks have them also.
I know I know...it's sad. I don't deny it. Lol. Don't worry I'm still more into the film and special features and PQ/SQ than the slipcover so if I did miss out I won't stress too much. I certainly wont then attempt to buy it on eBay for 7 times the price. ....

Got them! Looking forward to the most recent 4K released. I had purchased The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly when it first came out and it is outstanding. It is the Theatrical release on 4K though, The extended version was released on Blu-ray previously as well. That is really good if you have never seen that version.
The previous 2019 KL release of For A Few Dollars More is apparently the only one of the trilogy without revisionist color timing issues.
Tgtbtu have two cuts? The American cut and special edition?

Almost all 4Ks are region free, but the Blu-rays are region A locked.

I only have one TV set up for 4K but it's not the one I usually watch with other people. I also love to lend people movies but don't know anyone else with a 4K set-up; so I prefer the combos far and away.
I do love these movies, but I think they're too long! Especially For A Few Dollars More, which slows to a crawl from the half-way point to the climax. I'm not complaining, though. All three of these movies could have been shorter. I think A Fistful of Dollars is the tightest of the three.
Great review and I totally agree on these releases. These movies were shot in Techniscope, a 2 perf process, and I think HDR would ruin that. Native 4K is beautiful for these. I hope KL does some more Italian Westerns on 4K UHD like the Sabata trilogy.

@@megamikethemovieman 15 year collection in progress, not unlike others. Became a blu ray snob when they came out, now 4K but they have to be worthy! Classic Hollywood films, TCM style, substantial film noir, universal horror, but gets more sparse approaching recent films (last 25 years!). Hitchcock, Bond films etc

I am mostly a horror fan but have a few westerns. I have those 3 on VHS and DVD and The Good The Bad and The Ugly on Blu-Ray. That's my favorite western. I'm sure this trio looks killer on 4K so I am tempted to buy them again. Good reviews showing and cool video Heath!👍

I especially like European movies and the more I like are Italian. But I watch and have a lot of horror movies. They basically said the same when VHS moved to dvd, it will never look better.
Though you call the music rock, but just for the record as I play guitar, I have 3 guitars. The genre is surf rock, subghetti music is a sub genre of surf music which was big in the early sixties.
I have THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY 4K, and I'm so glad the others are available now with no bizarre color timing choices.

I have the "Sergio Leone Westerns" BD set from Kino, along with TGTB&TU individual BD release for the extra cut. These 4K releases have been SOOO tempting, but I can't justify them now...
Do you think Kino will release "A Fistful of Dynamite" or "Once Upon a Time in the West" on 4K in the future? That might put me over the edge. ;)

I think A Fistful of Dynamite is a possibility since Kino Lorber has released it in the past and there's a precedent for that deal. But Once Upon a Time in the West is with Paramount in the USA, and it seems much less likely that Kino would get a crack at that one. I'd expect Paramount to hold on that for themselves.

Darn...I'm fine with the BDs (I'll never understand why Kino didn't make TGTB&TU a 3-disc set), even with the color. Better than I've never seen it.
Maybe these 4K will be in a future Kino sale, and I'll bite the bullet (no pun).

Yep, I agree. This trilogy is iconic and these three KL 4K will be my last upgrade. Heath any thoughts of KL be releasing Sergios other trilogies in 4K? Like Fistful of Dynamite, Once Upon a Time in the West and Once Upon a Time in America?
I would LOVE to see those movies in 4K! The one that's most possible would be A Fistful of Dynamite aka Duck You Sucker, since it's with a company that Kino Lorber has a deal with and have released on Blu-ray in the past. As for the other two, Once Upon a Time in the West is with Paramount, I believe, and Once Upon a Time in America is with Warner Bros, so both of those seem unlikely to be future releases from Kino. But they could be released on 4K from their parent studios.
Still need to see For A Few Dollars More but The Good the Bad and the Ugly is a masterpiece and A Fistful of Dollars is great. Already own The Good the Bad and the Ugly on Blu-ray but would I benefit at all from buying these if I don’t have a 4k player?

@@CerealAtMidnight Sorry I can't really help ...I have a friend in the USA that tells me about the new releases and I inform him about new European releases ..so we help each other ...also interestingly the USA discs are a lot cheaper than the UK versions..

Isolated music tracks? For a Few Dollars More never received a full soundtrack release because of a dispute with composer Morricone. (Just excerpts on one side of an Italian soundtrack L.P.) Good, Bad & Ugly is adequately documented on CD.

Is there any type of "boxed set" or specially priced package coming with all 3 titles?
I believe I saw a quote from the Kino Lorber Insider stating that there would not be a box set. With the MGM catalog now at Amazon, I’m not sure what the future holds for these films once the current deal expires.

That being said, I have to admit that my 2 disc DVD "collector's set" of GBU from 2004 is still really, really nice for being "just a DVD".
Does the good bad and the ugly 4k have the extended cut?
The scenes that make the extended cut are included as deleted scenes.
How about the sound? Do they have the original audio mixes?
They have original mono and 5.1. No Dolby Atmos, but I find that content originally created in mono still sounds best in mono, so that's how I watched these, and found the mono to be superior to the 5.1 mix.
@@CerealAtMidnight That's great news! I'm not usually a fan of "updated" sound mixes. I prefer to hear it the way it originally sounded, so this is perfect.
Glad to hear that these movies have finally been given a great treatment like TGTBATU 4K was (which IMO was a HUGE improvement over all the previous Blu Rays!). I really didn't like the look of the Kino's old Blu Ray of Fistful of Dollars so I imported the German Blu Ray instead, and Kino's previous Blu Ray of Few Dollars More looked like it had some issues as well. So if these issues were corrected in these new 4K editions and we now have the definitive version of the entire trilogy, then that is wonderful! I have these on pre-order and I am excited to watch them when they come in :D
Are these going to be available in the U.K?
Kino Lorber only has the license to distribute in North America. However, you could import them from a seller that ships internationally, since 4K discs are region free. The Blu-rays are most likely region A locked, though.

I want to buy Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns on blu-ray but just can't decide which one to pick. It's like every version has its ups and downs.
So far I found the following versions. I'm guessing the 20th Century Fox (UK) will be the exact same transfer as the MGM (US)? Are there any other UK/US versions that are the same transfer? Which one of all these versions do you suggest and why?

I prefer having the sound be in either Dolby Atmos or DTS-X with pristine condition superior sound and picture quality

I’ve just recently got into the western genre after rewatching the dollars trilogy, me and my dad used to watch they movies all the time when I was a kid. I’ve not saw The Wild Bunch before but I just looked it up and it’s rated highly so I’ll be watching it this weekend.

Sorry, I'm one for extras as in a commentary by Clint Eastwood himself watching all these movies. Maybe if there is a Hollow Deck simulation that puts you in the movie is the only tech I rather see.

Once Upon a Time in the West is not part of Sergio Leone's "Man With No Name" Trilogy. Distribution rights to that movie are with Paramount, which Kino Lorber just made a deal with, so maybe it will be possible in the future, if someone steps up to finance a 4K restoration, which, to my knowledge, has not happened yet. I think we'd ALL love to see it on 4K.
I wish they would release more stuff without HDR.
I personally don't like HDR. It dulls the color palette of the picture. Gives it a gloomy look instead of a bright sharp and crisp display. I always leave it off on my films. It's overated to me.

I feel the same way about Kino slips as I do scream/ shout factory. They are so poorly made that if they aren’t making every copy with one I’m not buying it without one.
It’s so cheaply and the worst slip in the game that I can’t even begin to imagine paying the idiotic prices those clowns think is even worthwhile asking.
If I find them with a slip I’ll happily add them but without Kino and shout don’t deserve my money. If you aren’t going to make enough slips don’t even make them at all. Or at least do what vinegar syndrome does and tell me how many are left so I can buy accordingly. Don’t support fomo/ addict salesmanship this is preying on.
I have kinos silence of the lambs 4K so it is a certainly very basic packaging to say the least.
Just to verify, if you can't have a slip, you'll skip watching the movie altogether?

I say Watch all the movies even if it’s on a usb drive. I’m more talking about this as an objective monetary skew. Since it’s just a case with 2 discs; I won’t pay the current price point for just that. Like the recent malignant which I purchased for 4.99 after I used coupons. since that’s more worth it for the packaging/ case used plus the 2 discs and cover.
