      I'd give a title of the best overall phone to Google Pixel 3 just because of multiple annoyances of EMUI. Yes, Mate's 20 Pro camera is mostly better but not all the way. Photos of moving objects, occasional focusing issues, far from perfect selfies or just photos of people's faces and horrible night videos is frustrating. Pixel does all those things better with just one camera.

    Like a bunch of other commentors, I've had the Mate 20 Pro since November and haven't had a single problem with Face Unlock at all. I'd confidently say it's been 100% effective, even after a shave and a hair cut. Same with the Bluetooth connection. I regularly use emulators on my phone, and regularly pair one of several Bluetooth controllers with it without any issue. And again, call quality is superb. In fact, the phone has been so good that my fiancée has just bought a Mate 20 Pro for herself as she has been so impressed with mine. As for the camera, again, mostly superb photos using standard settings, and amazing photos when using the bundled tools. I can honestly say that this is the best phone I've ever had, and I've had a lot of phones.

    Switched from Note line after 8 years ...and in 2 months with m20p I:
    Never had issues with call volume even in loud clubs
    Never had problems with bluetooth (although I am using it for my car and my watch only, but all the time)
    I only mind the camera interface ..no mode is perfect, luckily there is a lot of them, but there is no customization of it, shortcuts, gestures, anything.
    They added SUPER Macro mode a few days ago with an update - makes INSANE microscopic photos!
    btw, your finger is on top of the reader, so how is it blinding you? In worst case scenario, you missed it by a little and light will only partially get through. If you missed it a lot it simply wont light up.

    i just got this phone about four days ago i upgraded from an LG G6 which was a huge leap, Like Angie mentions in this video it is a beast of a phone i love it, i do miss some things and features my LG G6 had and wished the mate 20 pro had like for example double tapping the screen wake up the phone and the 3.55 mm headphone jack which is something that's going to take getting used to on the upside i've always wanted to a wirefree life by embracing wireless charging pads for the mate 20 pro and to switch from wired in earbuds to wireless bluetooth over the ear headphones that are noise cancelling. All in all i would say this is the best phone i've ever had to date. The battery is amazing for how long it lasts and there is no slow down whatsoever on this badass phone. @@dimMx no I haven't had any issues at all this phone is as she mentions in the video a beast of a phone I highly recommend this phone to anyone in the market for a flagship phone that has no issues with speed, it's fast it just does what it's supposed to do and it does it well, mind you I wasn't a fan of EMUI 9 so I downloaded and installed Nova Launcher Prime which I've always loved as you can customize the ever loving shit out it to the way you want. I wished stock Android would allow for the same customizability as Nova Launcher does but sadly you need a different Launcher to achieve this. If Google just listened to what people want in a phone then they wouldn't have as many issue or problems with stock Android and other software based issue. While I still do and miss my LG G6 which I still have it's not become a backup phone and or a media powerhouse or gaming phone so I don't have to fill up my Huawei mate 20 with alot of bloatware software and keep it running buttery smooth at all times, I think what people to know too is the experience you have on your current "old" phone is just as good as can be had on a newer phone, because people tend to fill there phone's up with alot of bloatware apps and games. These just sit there and sit there internally on the storage space consuming memory and resource hogging your phone. Also there's alot of shit software and apps on the Play store that only serve to infect your phone with backdoors that hackers can use to spy on you with or collect your data or use your phone as a data mining or crypto currency mining operation. What phone are you currently using?

    4. UI is cluttered and buggy
    5. Face unlock is unreliable

    • @e.matthews
      @e.matthews 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Those are oversimplifications. Apart from the earpiece, she was showing how unreliable these features (including camera and sensors) can be. She didn't mention it but they often have solutions. Like...
      Use a launcher.
      Use a passcode!
      Take 1-5 minutes to pair the bluetooth device, and after that it will work perfectly. (I think this might be an EMUI thing, it happens on EMUI 8 too)
      Try registering the same finger or face twice. It takes several tries, but it works really well once you trick the system.
      And of course, be careful with what you do in camera settings. Stick with auto mode if you're not sure what's being altered. And I laughed at the part about all of the features. Just learn what your camera can do BEFORE a photographable moment presents itself, not in the moment!
      (Not trying to sound like a dick, just passing on what one learns)
      (I've never heard or read anything about bad earpieces on the Mate 20 series. This may be a defect?)

      @@e.matthews Thing is I kinda desire switch to mate 20. I also find those "longer term reviews" more honest. I could assume that their phone is defective but I kinda wonder since those bigger youtubers usually can get other unit to confirm that suspicion. She used the word "abysmal" to describe her experience with earpiece. Abysmal is a strong word. Let's face it, if the phone's earpiece doesn't work good than it is nothing more than glorified iPod Like you said I can work around those other concerns such as fingerprint, UI, face unlock, camera even Bluetooth but why should I if it works better on other devices. What's the point of the review and recommendation if every phone gets green lighted no matter what it's flaws are. She bashed pretty much every feature that matter on phone except looks and screen. What the phone nowdays have to do in order to not get recommended. Ah well it seems the best review is the one you make yourself. 🤔

The Bluetooth connection works well to me too. BTW, how can a so called "long-term review" only focus on the issues but not the positive parts? You should only call it a review if you give the objective full coverage of the product. You'd better change the title to "long-term rant".

    Wow! It's odd how different one person's experience can be. My favourite things about the mate 20 Pro are the awesome battery and, which has very much surprised me, the face unlock. I was trying to put a figure on it as to how accurate it is. Seriously, it's gotta be 99.9% accurate. Not only that, and by the way, that figure is no exaggeration. After the last update the face unlock has stayed just as accurate but now its so fast like 9 - 9 1/2 times outta 10 it opens with ZERO delay. So much so that when that update did this I had to check it against someone else's face as I was starting to doubt if it was even on. It's that instant. I know it's exactly the same 30,000 infra red dots bla bla bla as the iPhone, and being as I really dislike the iPhone I thought, this ain't gonna be great but as you can tell I'm totally sold on this face unlock. I was a notch hater too but I think it's worth having a notch this size just for that face unlock. So... Yeah, it's odd how you say it only worked 50% of the time. Hey ho.

    Just a few things to add here:
    I'm using this phone since November.
    Bluetooth works for me like a charm. Even with cheap aliexpress airdots that I use for the gym.
    Face unlock is amazingly fast for me. Even when I'm in a completely dark room. It only has problems in the winter when I have a hat and a scarf on me.
    The Camera is amazing. I have a 10 year DSLR Camera and The Huawei Phone makes better Pictures xD
    You have to learn the Camera a little bit but when you do it is amazing. There are so many options. For the friend's things: Switch to Portrait and turn on "Capture smiles". It also works very well!
    To make the default launcher clutter less go to your phone settings search for Drawer and activate it. Now you have a Drawer and not every app is on the home screens!

    This review is a classic example of how can a phone review be so different. That’s why I enjoy long term reviews. It provides a lot of actually important info. I am happy that I didn’t pick up this phone. It’s overrated, when I saw it in store and tried the gestures, they were slow and laggy compared to iPhone.

    I have the mate 20 pro for almost one month now and watching this video make me belive it's a bad thing but apparently it's not. It's the best phone I've ever had. In some points she is right like the 3d Face unlock. U have to try twice sometimes but... booooo.. It takes u half a second. The fingerprint is very accurate now with the new update. There is no infinity perfect phone out there. Its always a compromise but for the price u ll get the best.

    I couldn't relate to your Face Unlock problem. It's so fast that it could even beat my fingerprint scanner to unlock.

  • @MrClark360360
    @MrClark360360 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Agree and disagree with some points. The fingerprint scanner is waaayyyy to bright when activated. Can leave you seeing light spots in your vision if you use it in a dark room. However, I find the face recognition to be AMAZING! Recognizes me EVERY time, lightening fast and even from a reasonable distance AND in the dark! ( Maybe the reviewer needed to reset it and register face again?)
    The bottom firing speaker is poor! If you listen carefully it has a constant quiet hissing noise when sound is played.
    I think the top earpiece for calls is fine, not terrible like the reviewer says.
    I'm glad she picked up on the camera points. It is an amazing camera,....sometimes. I've taken some of the best photos I've seen with this phone, but it can be very finicky and the auto focus can be way too aggressive. Sometimes I want everything in the shot to be clear, not just a certain point being crystal clear and everything else slightly out of focus. Best way to describe it is maybe "not a great point-and-shoot camera" which is annoying as the hardware and software is obviously more than capable.
    And the battery IS RIDICULOUSLY GOOD!

  • @741255
    @741255 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    My Huawei had no issue with face recognition after this whole year. I think you should remake the face recognition. About the Bluetooth, again I have no issue with connectivity and I have two Bluetooth speakers, headphones and even a water speaker. All of them Chinese no-brands and still, the connectivity is great! The sound of its own speakers diminished a bit but I do not use it too much. The camera is great and I always preferred to place the focus myself as I like to control some aspects. I find this phone great after an year and I wouldn't change it for anything newer.

    As you point with the camera, many of this phones take HORRIBLE photos if you rely on auto everything. For once I would love they include additional custom profiles that you can tweak for many known environments with controlled lightning.
    Auto video capture from S9 is horrible indoors, then using manually tweaking the white balance and brightness do wonders for the quality.

    A very smart and well reasoned review from a very intelligent and professional reviewer . My experiences with this phone mirror Angie's unfortunately . I'm uncomfortable with the amount of sponsored TH-camrs who have overhyped this phone . Your mileage may vary but it certainly does have issues , including problems with screen quality on quite a few handsets. The camera is fine with landscape shots but heaven forbid if your subject were to move as the pictures come out blurry more often than not . I believe a number of the issues mentioned can be resolved via future software updates so it's no biggie overall. However, it's an expensive phone and is not as good as some might have you believe .

    I've been using the Mate 20 pro for a few days and I've never had a device with a curved screen. I noticed that when I look at the front display with a white background, it seems to me that on the curved sides it tends to green / blue. With black background is perfect. If I tilt it a little to the right or left this effect is not visible. In this video, the effect is more or less what you can see from 3:17 to 3:37 .
    Who has any experience with these screens could tell me if it is normal behavior due to the curvature of the display?
    I read that defective LG displays were used at the release of this model, but it is not my case as I checked to be a BOE brand.
    I repeat, if someone could express their opinion, based on his experience, I would be grateful.

    Always turn the phones bluetooth on FIRST and then the other device. If you turn the bluetooth on your phone off and on, the other device needs a few seconds to reconnect, so turn bt on both devices off and then again, first the phone and then the other device.
