I’m bumped that my Lumia 930 did not have always on display, despite the screen capable of doing that. Then Microsoft ditched Windows Mobile completely and both company part way.
Huawei makes great phones. If they work with Bowers and Wilkins for sound that would be a killer. One of the best thing they did was teaming with Leica. They don’t really need google if they can find get an App Store that supports all languages. But if they can work on a search engine which is on par with google they would have cracked it.
Like the way it looks but not sure if we’re ready to give up usability for style like volume buttons for double taps or such compromises where its totally unnecessary, let alone giving up google services.
I'm a little confused about the focus on no Google Apps support. I bought a Note 10+ in China. It didn't come with any Google Apps, so I had to install them myself. It was as simple as downloading the Google Services and Play Store from APK Mirror and installing them. Nothing else needed. What confuses me about your review is whether or not you're saying they don't have them but they can still be installed in the way I mentioned for the Note 10+ or if there's a reason why they can't even be installed that way.
The Mate 30 is a special case because it is the first Chinese brand android phone that is not licensed by Google. Google services (particularly the framework) is a system app that needs to be installed in Android's system partition. Unlike other regular user app like facebook, whatsapp, snapchat etc.....a system app requires google's digital signature to update itself through the play store. The reason you can sideload Google services/apps on your Note 10+ or other Chinese brand phones is because they pre-installed placeholder Google apps/services with Google's digital signature on the phone already. As long as the Google APKs you're installing have a matching Google digitial signature, then it can be installed over the system app placeholders. Because of the ban, the Mate 30 however does not have Google's digital signature or placeholders preinstalled on the phone, so it prevents you from sideloading any Googles apks/services.
Xiaomi has been releasing China ROM phones that didn't come with Google services since 2014 and I have no issues with it until now. I don't get why it takes a lot of effort to sideload Google services for some people.

Since Huawei is banned now, they can't have any Google services preinstalled therefore can't sideload them through an APK. People have already tried to do it on the Mate 30, sideloading doesn't work.
6:40 actually, u can slide up and down on the right of the screen to zoom in and zoom out when in landscape just like in one ui. I tried this with my p30 running EMUI 9.1
I don't mind the lack of Google services. Before I switched to Windows Phone, I have been using numerous custom Android ROMs without Google Play Services. Needless to say, it serves me rather well. As for the camera? Finally, I'm giving Huawei a thumbs up for the photos. At long last, that eye-soring waterpainting-like oversharpening is gone for good. Now it looks much more natural and more detailed. Yes there is a hint of oversharpening happened in this Mate, but it was so mute I barely noticed it at all. A worthy de-Googled Android companion for my Nokia Lumia 1020 and my Microsoft Lumia 950 XL? Definitely looking like one to me.
Great video. In terms of hardware the Mate 30 Pro is a beast, ahead of any other smartphone. But the OS though, one of the worst. The cameras show that pretty clear, with color changing even when changing the FPS 🤷♂️ or lenses.
It is simply lacking a firmware update that has already been released on some markets. There is nothing wrong with the software and emui 10 has made great strides being comparable to one ui. I use a p30 pro with a launcher because im still on imui 9 but as soon as i get emui 10 later this month i will probably use it without a launcher.

My next phone/iPad/laptop would be Chinese brand. I bought Apple products because of the ‘speak’ function. With iOS 13.1 speak function is not smooth,it’s kind of crap. I hope the Chinese brands can make secure and personal-data friendly products.
Great review as always, but seems faint praise to say they 'solved the hardware button problem' by making the sides touch sensitive, given that the 'problem' only exists because of their own poor design decisions and their need to have this fragile waterfall display.

Great video very interesting but for a phone in the UK what cost just over £1,000 it may have a great camera actually an amazing camera which is all fine said and done but if I can't get apps on this phone the ones I really need and use is it really worth this remote of money not really that's just a personal point of view though no so I now have the Huawei p30 Pro Happy Days still has an amazing camera and of course I can get the apps the ones I really need and just use' thank you very much for your video.👍

Mate is the flagship model from Huawei, P Series is also a flagship phone but not Huawei's best one, P series is a bit cheaper than the Mate but does usually bring in significant camera improvements. For Samsung, the Note is the most highend phone from Samsung but the S Series is still *a* flagship just not *the* flagship.

This device is great looking, but how many people really are going to wanna have this without access to the Google store? Yeah you can download APK files from the internet and install apps like TH-cam and others but that's rather frustrating when you have to do it for all applications.
Lack of Google Apps is a major drawback. However; the phone is much more advanced, than all other competitors except for I-phone. The photographic lenses are better than all other phones, with no exceptions.
Aptoide is crap and full of malware. How much more is available than on Google Play store is unknown, but there is definitely more. Also I'm pretty sure they have heard of Aptoide

Taking out google from huawei is a big disadvantage for us, China is not actually worried since they don't allow google services in China anyway so it is just another regular phone for them while outside of china will be affected since we heavily rely on Android and Apple OS. Most of us are not used to other OS ever since.
I think you're one of the few review channels that pay attention to sound clarity in a call. People need to be reminded this is still a phone.

This phone won't sell on the UK, was told that by Carphone Warehouse, they won't stock it without Google Services.
I dont think the play store thing is too big of a deal. You can just download the apk on your pc and transfer it to the phone.
