- In this video, I breakdown a section of the Joe Rogan Experience where Joe shares some very odd ideas for rule changes to MMA. The guest on the episode is Royce Gracie, who shared some ideas himself.
Let me know what you all think down in the comments!

When I said upkicks I was meaning axe kicks from bottom.
Wanting a rule so biased towards grapplers that even a GRACIE says idk about that is crazy
Exactly! lol that was the craziest part
That first one would be a slow death of the UFC being mainstream. It would turn away SOOOO many fans. I love every aspect of MMA but I understand that casual fans don’t want to see a guy laying on top of someone and doing nothing. I get bored of guys were blanketing too honestly.. if no damage is being done.
Good points. I agree man
Yeah I agree with that sentiment too.
I’m not here to watch *only* BJJ and grappling.
I mean, come on.
You’re absolutely correct though, nobody would watch.
Joe Rogan, pot, liquor pumpkin head inducing steroid use, no time limit, no gloves and it all takes place on a basketball court.
😂
Joe Rogan off his 97th yappachinno
😂😂
A 15 minute round sounds sexy but I don't think it's practical or the most exciting option.
Same thought here. Sounds good but idk about it
Those who want a no time limit then go to Shamrock vs Gracie. I believe it was the second fight but can't think of it off the top of my head. Boring AF
Yep! 👍 💯
That’s one example, there’s plenty of boring fights now. What Joe is suggesting would be best way to limit factors that influence a fight that really shouldn’t / wouldn’t in real life
With professional sports there's a balancing act between purity of the sport, entertainment/profitability, and safety. Rogan wants a more pure fight, which I can understand and appreciate, but as a fan I would find most of his suggestions less entertaining
Exactly. 👍 He has wild ideas this just didn’t make sense for the sport aspect
Chris Tognoni would start them in the wrong position half the time
😂
If anything UFC should copy BKFC, they have a more action orientated time set up. 3 minute, 5 rounds. This is really a huge cause of why BKFC fights are always bangers, there is other reasons as well but this is a massive factor.
Good thought man. Fighters wouldn’t have to worry as much about the gas tank
I think the concept of standing up is kinda weird. I say no stand-ups and allow kicks to down opponents. MMA is supposed to emulate a real fight
Yeah I’m with it. The stand up thing is crazy
I like the straight 15 minutes (or 25 for title fights) with no rounds idea, however I think fighters would get dead tired by the 10-15 minutes mark.
Nah this would slow the pace of the fights down.... this is already well known. If you dont give them breaks they have to slow down obviously.
Pride had hell of exciting fights. Pride rules allowed head kicks and knees to a downed opponent, but Pride disallowed walking away from a downed opponent as a method of getting him to stand up, which the UFC allows to advantage the standing fighter. In Pride you HAD to engage a downed opponent.
Truth. Pride was crazy
Great breakdown man, there’s so many problems with this sport, judging criteria, not being consistent, bad judges, bad refs, extreme weight cutting, mma is the only sport I watch cuz it’s by far the most exciting but the sport has issues,
Thanks man and for sure. He’s being so bias here
That grounded opponent rule needs to be the only change besides mabe the 90-degree elbow rule. If we took Rogans opinions, the UFC would for sure be surpassed by BKFC.
Everyone has to remember that the UFC is a competitive sport, not a backyard fight.
Exactly!
Just got closer to the end of the video. One 25 minute vale tudo style round is wild! 😂😂
😂😂
No, fighters need time to go over their gamelan as the fight goes and rest . That’s what rounds are for
Every fighter now has good takedown and grappling defense because it taught systematically in the mma gyms now, even if that fighter is not a grappler whatsoever they mostly have good takedown and grappling defense that makes it harder for most grappling based fighters. And another thing not really talked about is the top strikers in every division tend to be very big and tall for their weight class good luck getting your arms around them with a good grip for leverage much less taking them down.
Very true. Good points
20:57 you mean like how Izzy did in the round prior to him getting knocked out by Alex?
Yes! 👍
To imagine how this stuff would be in reality you would have to look at the very early mma fights but fighters with modern skill sets it, would be different.
Hoyce Grey Sea? Never heard of him.
😂
2:03 this would destroy the sport and make it unwatchable. Rogan is losing his mind.
Facts. I don’t know what Rogan is thinking
Rogan just talks out of his ass and he loves ju jitsu
Exactly. So bias
This number one bullshit brother. Who give this guy black belt
😂
Joe’s first take is ridiculous we have ADCC and other organizations that do similar things
Exactly
Imagine how boring the sport would be if a bunch of croch sniffers could just lay on people the whole fight.
Very boring lol
Weed turned Rogan into a mma casual
The mushrooms mabe.
😂
That take is so ass lol, should fighters that get rocked at the end of a round get rocked at the start of the next round too? Smh😂
What?
@@JakeGerberMMA joe saying they should start in the same position on the ground, but when gracie says what about being saved by the bell he says “oh just start it standing” as if that is close to the position they were in at the end of the round
@@tummas3395 oh gotchu lol. Yeah Joe is wild these man with these takes
