Well, we all fail at repairing things every now and then, that's how we learn. I enjoyed the video a lot!
Thanks for the kinds words, glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Not even really a failed repair I'd say. It's more an impossible repair because of the lack of replacement and pieces.
Dont worry about failed repairs
The info is very useful even with the failed attempt
That's what I was hoping, thanks for watching!
I've finally found a video that gives me info of what is happening to my psp so thanks dude appreciate the video
Glad I could help!
Love your content brother, just wish the videos were longer!
Maybe not on the same level as "Adrian's Digital Basement" but like 10-15min would be awesome
Thanks for the feedback! Will keep in mind for the next one as I definitely cut out a lot of footage in this one
same shit with my psp i think :(
Sorry to hear it, tricky problem!
Im having the exact same issue with my psp3000 board. I think that big chip might be power management, which i believe is the DA9052 ic chip.
My conclusion was basically that we just need a replacement motherboard sadly. If you know of any way to get just the replacement chips on their own let me know!
Hey! I bought a custom psp 3006 (cell phone battery instead of the original one and transparent body) but the seller told me that the psp wouldn't turn on because it didn't have the flat cable for the buttons so the power switch couldn't work. I bought the missing cables and installed them but the psp still doesn't turn on, it only turns on an orange light when I connect the charger. I thought the problem could be the power button board so I bought a new one but the psp still won't turn on. When I installed the flats I didn't remove the battery because it was soldered because of the customization, did a fuse blow or is it another problem? Please someone help me, I was very excited about this psp and now I'm so disappointed
If you get the charging light I think it's probably a blown fuse. You can start by shorting it like I tried and if that works then awesome news and I'd then recommend replacing the fuse instead of just leaving it shorted.
If thos components are transistors u can test yhem with multi meter first for shorts. Bummer both had the same problem as u cant swap motherboards.
Im currently trying to bga reball the nec chip on my psp2000. Its very difficult but learning i guess.
Great video
Thanks for the comment I hope the reball goes well!
Hello I have a psp 2000 and i don't have a battery but i bought a portable battery and it worked well i even played my games with that method but one day i tried to turn it on but it didn't i watched multiple tutorials that led me to nothing but when I use my faulty battery and charge it there is an orange light but it still doesn't turn on 😢 any advice please????
I would try shorting that power fuse that I show and see if that works. If it does, awesome, but I wouldn't leave it on too long until replacing the fuse with a new one.
Does it have a custom shell on? If not then you could pull the button out on the shell, it should hook under a large yellow anchor shaped piece which goes under the board, if it gets put in the wrong way it gives you the feeling it has activated the boards power switch, when it's dragging against it. It's an easy mistake to make, if not maybe replace the right charging port board as it's in 2 parts
You should've checked the capacitors connected to the small component and the big chip to see if any of those were shorted.
Thanks for the suggestion, there's probably a lot of stuff I could have/should have checked. I didn't have much time with these so tried to clue in based on heat signature alone which unfortunately didn't get me there.
I was almost done rehousing my co worker’s psp. Everything was working. Right when I put the screen back on its resting place before I put the front cover on. No power. No charge. Nada. Very disappointing…. And have no idea why since it was working seconds ago without issues.
Most likely one of the cables wasn't reconnected properly
That was a great video thanks so much for showing this
Glad you enjoyed it!
One of the saddest thing about repairing. The best solution is replace it with another Motherboard :(
New Subscriber here! :)
Agreed on that and glad to have you, cheers!
mine wasnt turning on so i looked for anything to help
disconnecting and reconnecting power cables solved my issue
so tyy
I'm glad yours was easy, nice job fixing it!
sooo basically replace the mother board or buy a new psp somewhere for ~40
my psp is doing the same thing so thank you for trying it out
Sadly that's pretty much what it is
@@FantasticQuack replaced motherboard with another one, didn’t fix the problem, time to replace the charging connection ig
I think the large chip is the custom MIPS IV allegrex unit LOl aka the C.P.U
Know where I can buy a fresh one? lol
@@FantasticQuack i've never found one of those listed like anywhere
Very interesting on the heat views
Yeah! Thanks for watching :)
Very insightful, thank you for the video!
I have a PSP which works fine but doesn't charge via charging port. It charges via USB but as you probably know, USB charge in PSP works only if the device is on. So, if the battery dies fully, I am unable to charge it via USB as the device is off. Then I need to charge the battery externally.
I have replaced the charging port with a new one, it didn't help. I know the charger works as I tested it with another PSP. What do you think the problem might be?
Thank you in advance!
forgot to mention, it is PSP model 2004
I actually didn't know that about USB charging so thanks for sharing! Admittedly I never had a PSP growing up and never spent a lot of time familiarizing myself with them (yet). I wish I would have tested USB charging on these with a known good battery, based on your note it's possible yours had the same indeterminant problem as these. Sorry I can't give better insight!
Seems to be the same issue I have on my 1000 model :(
Ya hate to see it :/
What device is that?? That you use to see overheating parts on the motherboard what was the called?
thermal imaging camera
@@magrat3247 Thank you so much! I just subscribe
@@jeremiepogi8013 for sure there is certain ones that can connect to your phone and they are a bit cheaper than the others
magrat already said it, but to be more specific, it is an infrared (IR) camera. This particular one is a FLIR brand.
@@FantasticQuack thank you
Thank you for your video. I've been looking for a psp motherboard repair for since 2012, but cant find one until now. After seeing this, i just revived 2 motherboard with power issue(doesn't charge the battery and doesn't work with adapter).
How did you revive them?
how did you manage to fix it? i have exact same problem, no battery chargimg and wont power on on charger connected. i think it can be only fuse
Please reply bro, we have to know
Fuckin troll. =)
bump for anwer
Do getting psp from eBay usually have these issues . I got the psp 3000 it charges but it doesn’t say the information on my battery level then sometimes I can’t turn the psp on. I also have my old psp which only works if my charger is plugged into it!
These were listed by the seller as non-functioning. Sounds like the old one might just need a new battery!
What do you use for the heat views !?
Infrared camera!
Very fruitful content bro
Normally there is fruit
My psp when im on the power with baterry and without battery using charger just have green clip light ..already change the power switch still no work but i think maybe motherboard have problem.. Did u think so?
I would check the fuse and ribbon connections. If you have the charging light that's a good sign and it may be only something minor needing a tweak. Hope you can get it fixed!
Don't suppose your giving these away or selling them?
These ones are already gone
Just got a PSP off eBay and it doesn't even charge.
Best advice: return to seller or file claim if it was advertised as working.
I hope someone can use this information to find a fix for this.
Me too!
My old PSP I just found in my room, it turns on and shuts off right away. Any solution?
Does that happen on a charger too, or just on battery? You could try another battery, or a hard reset as a couple basic steps and see if any improvement.
I have a Psp 2000, similar issue, but green led comes on, waits few seconds, then off. I have no idea what is going on. could be power fuse? It is not bricked. I tried a pandora battery, it doesn't even boot up to read from pandora.
You can check if it's a fuse issue just by bridging over it. If it seems to work after that you can buy a new fuse as I wouldn't recommend keeping it as a dead short.
That's very odd. That's like the big indicator of the psp being bricked. I'm definitely curious how this turned out!
i have a psp street E1008 and it has no display(still sound comes out of it when i press on the buttons) what do i do to repair it?
Sounds like it needs a new screen! Or possibly the connection to it just went out, you'd have to check the cables inside
@@FantasticQuack thanks man
Mines doesn't turn on. But sometime shows a light when charged. Why is this?
Sounds like you have a bad connection with the power switch. I'd try cleaning the switch with alcohol and reattaching all the connections leading from it to the board.
@@FantasticQuack oh dear. I really hate opening up psps. I had one 4 years ago where its lasted as I've modified it. It was so full of tissues to hold certain objects in place. Brought it to a technician once to fix the flux. He's eyes were wide open when he opened my psp. What must have going through his mind I wonder.
Lol 11 seconds in i realize i thought the port at the top of the PSP was the charger this whole time 🤦🏻♂️ THANK YOU
Haha you're welcome!
I have PSP 1000 thousand with analogue problem and it was due to the face plate's middle screw holder breaking. So I gave it to fix it. The people who fixed it actually changed the whole housing case with a cheap one and it still was shit. So told them to assemble it back to the old one, they did but now its far worse, the bottom buttons bar is not working, the R is also not working and the transparent rubber of analogue stick is broken. The UMD Drive is also not working. They destroyed the PSP.
Amateur repair men messed it.
Wow, hopefully you got your money back!
@@FantasticQuack No I didnt but instead got that shell for it.
My light is on but the screen won't boot up when I turn it on with the button. What could cause this?
Cracked or otherwise bad screen. If you crank the volume up can you hear any sound coming out of it? If yes then it probably just needs a new screen.
@@FantasticQuack my green light never comes on. Amber light stays on when charging
@jeremeyhare9515 I had a PSP I bought off eBay this week listed as non functioning and had the symptoms of wouldn't turn on with a fully charged tested battery. would get an orange charge light when connected to a charger. Wouldn't turn on with the battery removed and hooked up to the charger.
It ended up being a finicky power switch basically if you just pushed up normally it wouldn't turn the system on but if you pushed in on the power switch and slowly pushed up on the power switch it would work.
hmm why not trying spray some electrical contact cleaner? might as well try it. Also do you know if PSP 3000 and PSP Street has the same UMD drive? and are they interchangeable?
Didn't have any contact cleaner handy, wouldn't hurt to try next time though! I'm pretty sure the street model uses the same disc drive as the 3000 model but not positive..
you are amazing
Ty good human
I have a PSP 3000 with the same issue that I tried to fix today. No luck. No signs of life (no lights) + heating up in the exact same area when plugged in. Any progress?
Sadly no, I kind of gave up on this one. My best guess is that main chip had an internal short which is irreparable and requires replacement. So at that point you'd need a whole new main board with the chip already on it in working order (since you can't just go online and buy that chip).
@@FantasticQuack yeahhh, I figured. Just ordered a replacement board. Using it as an opportunity to explore the PSP and do my first teardown :). I've tinkered around with LCDs and stuff before, but never tried anything like this. Should be interesting!
@@dksuany luck? Similar issue with my 1000, it charges and turns orange light on but won't turn on. Where did you get the replacement motherboard?
@@Yesgo3 Hey man - so I got a replacement board off Aliexpress, but it was also busted, though not busted in the same way lol. Basically, I was able to confirm that the issue was indeed a board issue (though my issue sounds a bit different - there wasn't even the orange charging light), because the PSP would turn on with the new board. Unfortunately the issue with this new board was that there was a loose connection somewhere on it's right side that would cause the power on that side to fail, and so the buttons would stop working lol.
Still, at least I was able to figure out it was a board issue!
@@dksu ah sorry to hear that it didn't work...for the hassle of trying to fix the damn thing I might just get an ally rog and emulate psp! That has a 7 inch screen and ppsspp can upscale the games so definitely a better option than playing natively on the psp. Good luck if you try to fix it again with another mobo.
You're a great engeneer. Dislike
This comment confuses me
@@FantasticQuack I agree
Part 2?
Sadly not, I could have got them working with a motherboard replacement but have already parted them out for other units with good boards / lesser problems.
amazing
Thanks for watching!
Im having the exact same problem
Hate to see it...
Well that was a waste of time, don't upload videos if you don't fix the problem
Hopefully the insight can help someone else find a solution. Sorry I let you down dancedance
