Tom Randall climbs the insane-looking The Kraken V13

  • "When I first tried this move I was convinced that my forearm or finger would explode with a loud bang".
    This is Tom Randall talking about the moves on The Kraken V13, his Devon Roof Project - a 40 ft long horizontal roof crack at Hartland Quay.
    "It’s a long horizontal span to a back-hander mono, followed by a 270 degree spin through and hard move to a thin hands jam, which is immediately followed by a really gnarly ring-lock move"
    Quite hard then....
    Read Tom's blog on the project: tomrandallclimbing.wordpress....

    Tom climbed this in 2015 . This is one of the films that we've moved over from our original BMC TV platform.

    The idea of hanging on a ringlock by one arm on a roof is absolutely mind-boggling.

    My middle finger retracted back into my hand seeing him do the “mono swing through move”

    • @onzie9
      @onzie9 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I totally trust him that that was the only way to do that move, but damn it looks like he can get more fingers in there. The need to spin is probably the main driver for doing that as a mono.

      Should crimpy routes get a seperate grading system because I suck at them, but feel like big powerful moves are a walk in the park?
      Every disciplin of bouldering should be praticed in my opinion and fall under the same category.

      It really depends on the technique being used. There are many climbers still pushing their limits into old age and some climbers getting major chronic injury in their 30s or even 20s. Ultimately, it often depends on how well you're paying attention to the method that you use to approach the sport. I've heard people try to blame their injury on the sport or their age but when you dig deeper it's always something they were doing that they just decided to ignore or just didn't know about.
