      Maybe practice 3v3 rotations first, hardly anyone on plat seems to have the awareness of their teammates position. Bumping teammates shouldn't be a regular occurrence, yet it is, and so are the double commits.

    • @user-bl4oq7fd8d
      @user-bl4oq7fd8d ปีที่แล้ว

      Me and my teammate never really practice any mechanics... We just play, meaning we little skill when it comes to aerials, but we make up for that with good tactics and positioning. That's enough to peak into Diamond 😅

  • @OdinPlays94
    @OdinPlays94 3 ปีที่แล้ว +99

    To any newer or struggling players: in my time in Platinum I've learned a few things that have gotten me out.
    1. Air rolling left or right before you make contact with the ball can help your accuracy as you'll now be able to send the ball left or right from your current position.
    2. Pressing forward when jumping off the wall to stay close to the wall. This will help you save the ball in front of net when driving from post.
    3. Know when to hit a power shot or keep possession of the ball. Ideally you want to save power shots for when you're making a shot on net, clearing the ball or passing it across field to your teammate.
    4. Learn to flick. Seriously. It's one of the easiest ways to make a shot on goal or get it past your opponent.
    5. Trust your teammates. You both will miss the ball at some point. It's inevitable. Breaking rotation to cover your teammate will only put you at a disadvantage.
    6. Recognize the moment an offensive play becomes defensive. It's okay to disengage from the ball even though it's going in front of your opponents net. If they have someone in net they're going to clear that ball and you want to be there to pickup possession of it.

    • @OdinPlays94
      @OdinPlays94 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey folks. Long time no see. Recent replies have brought my attention back to this comment. Thanks for all the likes. Honestly I'm not sure it's warranted though. Some of it is just generally good advice and the other bit is just not good advice. The air roll left or right before you make contact with the ball is just bad advice. I was trying to hit one side of the ball and would make a Hail Mary play and use air roll and occasionally it would go the direction I wanted.
      I now understand that you should be using air roll as a means of changing your car's direction and position in the air. You should be aiming to hit specific spots on the ball and it's a very precise thing to do. If you can't hit the ball when you're going for it 98/100 I wouldn't honestly put too much focus into that. Platinum rank is a rough spot because everyone chases the ball all the time so you don't really have a whole lot of time where you could play with the ball. Unless of course you position yourself on the field where the ball is going to pop out from that pile of cars and in a position to defend if there's a breakaway. Hint hint

    I'm in P3 right now, and I think the mindset section of this video was my biggest takeaway. While I have been only playing for 2 months, I did progress to plat 3 pretty quickly. Honestly, I practice mechanics more than I play, lately, and I think I've approached the point where practicing better team-work, and overall etiquette, and not tilting would yield the highest increase in progression. Subconciously, I play as if I have to carry my team-mate. In my head, if I have to trust my team-mate to block a shot, I expect them to fail. If I trust them to follow up my shot, I expect them to fail. Then when we lose, I think to myself "why can't I get a better team-mate, someone that I don't have to carry." Then I step away from the game, and look at my mindset and know that it's not my team-mates. It's me. It's my poor mindset, and it's the reason why Plat 3 will more than likely be my peak.
    Don't get me wrong, I want to go into every game that I play, making great rotations. Giving my team-mate just as much time with the ball as I have, making some great passes to him/her, not getting tilted if we loses, and feeling like I am a *part of the team* and not *the entire time*. Then when I try to pass, my team-mate isn't expecting it (and I don't blame them, who dafuq passes in plat lol), so they get contested, lose possession, then we get scored on, and everyone in the lobby hits me with the "What a Save!" spam, and then I go back to my old bad-habits, in an attempt to get back at them, leading me to tunnel even harder, get tilted, and eventually throw.

    What i do to keep up with high paced plays is keep holding boost and try to hit the ball as much as you can. This will 100% make you more consistent and is one of the greatest warmups i've ever seen, especialyl because its so simple. This will force you to use powerslide more and hit powerfull shots consistently + it will make you learn how to recover from failed shots (trust me, going up the wall you will miss tons of hits).
    I want to practice inverted aerial, half flips and wavedashes more, i already know how to shadow defend and can use the backboard in some instances. I know how to do an half flip and wavedash, but i still have to consciously decide when to use it. I want to learn chaindashing also, because my wavedashes are half assed lol.
    One of the hardest mechanics i'm trying to learn are air roll left and right. Might not seem like much but i wont be convinced untill i can fly a figure 8 while constantly spinning in the pillars map.

    The worst part of plats isn’t the skill level, though they can improve quite a lot. It’s the inconsistency that makes them where they are. They might hit a flip reset or something flashy, but then fail to get good power off the ball.

    • @slyk

    Holy, this improved me so much in my first game. I am in like a suck, like suuuuuucckkkk phase rn. I went from Plat III div IV (yes just missed diamond), all the way don to Plat I div II. Also do party matches a fair bit with people around your skill, as 1: you won't use all the "wow!" "What a save!" and trash talk your teammates or opponents. Because I find when i trash talk I'm worse.

    I'm in gold currently, and I've played for less than a month, but I've devoted a ton of time in this game and can already somewhat air dribble, consistent aerials, and good power and placement in my shot. My only problem is positioning/ reads. I can go against a player much worse then me, but misread and misposition myself and end up losing games I should 100% win (talking about 1's) and this video gave me a ton to think about, so you got yourself a new sub 😉

    -I'm the one who trains a lot
    -I'm the one who is the most focused
    But just don't forget to have fun and use those hours of discipline to your advantages ONLY when they are presented to you at that exact moment. Otherwhise you can train as much as you can, but wont ever rank up

    As someone who just turned platinum i do about 99% of this in fact when i finally decided to sit down and grind my way to platinum i only lost 1 match and it was due to my teamate being afk half the match.
    I only watched this vid so that i could ensure i was playing well and in a week ill probably be in diamond

  • @Yellowshirtmann
    @Yellowshirtmann 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The only issue I have with plat is when once you reach it you feel like your opponents and sometimes teamates are smurfing and belong in diamond at least. Ive seen diamond lobbies with the same skill and mechanical knowledge of rotations as my plat games so it does make it tougher than gold to get through when you go against players who I guess havent gotten lucky with wins but should be higher up in the ranking. It also becomes a grind fest of just putting tons of more hours in. So diamond 123 is more like plat 456 tbh.

    • @slyk
      @slyk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Platinum and diamond players are usually extremely inconsistent which tends to lead to what you're saying. So it's certainly true and I know what you mean - all you can do is focus on yourself and work to be better than everyone else!

    • @Yellowshirtmann
      @Yellowshirtmann 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@slyk thanks for the reply and good video btw. Wouldnt you agree that there are massive jumps of competitiveness from bronze - silver; silver - gold; gold - plat; but for some reason plat 1 to like champ 2 all feels the same with no real progression of difference of skill. So the point is and it is frustrating it doesnt matter if you are that good in plat because people who you verse could very well be in champ. Now GC is a stretch and that is another big jump so I wont include them. But it is fair to say that you have to win games against a difficulty that is not accurate to your rank so what happens is there is more of a luck factor involved of hoping you dont get bad pairings. Thats why I nearly quit ranked upon reaching plat because no matter if I have a perfect game of never missing and hitting what I can do for the so called standards of my rank it wont matter when faced with sweaty smurfs that might be boosting to get ahead.

    • @Yellowshirtmann
      @Yellowshirtmann 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@slyk all in all I mainly do tournaments now and casual to avoid the ranking system as it feels so convoluted at plat and above. The reward is not worth the stress tbh and funny thing a couple of my plat friends which are better than me (I'm on par with like a diamond 2) have won champ tournaments which should tell you how screwed that rank really is and the inconsistancy like you mentioned is very real and discourages people like me for trying to win a bunch of games.

    I find that, for those timing based power clear off the backboard, you need to commit to the ball the split second it hits the wall. Too early and it’ll hit your car before the wall, and it’ll be a weak hit, too late and you’ll miss it and it’ll just bounce off the wall. Flipping for it right as it hits the backboard makes it so that when you reach it, it’ll just have bounced off the wall, and you hitting it then is what gives it power.

  • @patricks_music
    @patricks_music 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Roget league can be really frustrating sometimes. Also, ground to air dribbles and wall/aerial passes are so important to getting through mid-upper platinum.
    Kuxir pinches are also super helpful methods of clears

    • @blackpanda1968
      @blackpanda1968 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kuxir pinch? Bro i cand even do any kind of pinch. Let alone a flick
      And im plat 2 on 2s somehow. Not carried, cuz my teammates say that im pretty good. I honestly dont think im that good. I keep making insane shots that always miss. Like i dribble 2 opponents and just miss.
      I go for a double touch, and miss

  • @bigapu
    @bigapu 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! Been stuck in plat for 2 years now and in these 2 years i have improved 1000% but still can't get up in rank... I am much more calm in games, i don't go after the ball all the time, i wait for my teammates to rush in to it so we're not all triple committing, i'm more accurate, i make passes, i clear the back board and my aerials, car control and dribbling is decent.
    Biggest thing that affects my own play is the chat. Think i have to turn it off totally... I need one match with a really toxic player, to mess up the next 5-10 games until i have to quit for the day to calm down.

    • @slyk
      @slyk  3 ปีที่แล้ว
