This is a mini tutorial on how to connect the cards in a Tarot Reading. Often, in a Tarot Reading, we will interpret each card individually, but struggle with seeing how the cards relate and interact with one another. This tutorial will give you tips and techniques to help you find connections between the cards.

I also noticed cups on either side of the issue. Someone walking away from something in the past, and being offered another chance in the future - the queen is offering a cup of redemption or forgiveness.

Jess Wagstrom colours also is vital - defiantly walking away from an issue , but a positive (cups = emotion ) maybe taking one for team if you like, present position shows your decision almost haunting you still dwelling defensive about your past decision , etc .....

Jess Wagstrom Yes! 👍👍👍👍👍 I agree with your interpretation, I see the queen of cups still waiting and holding the cup of love for their return on the shore looking out to sea. 😃

In an intuitive reading, I would see a difference between the first two cards- in the first card the figure is walking away. It suggests that they are choosing and able to do so (despite the fact that walking is not easy for them - they hold a walking stick). It's not necessarily a refusal to deal something. If you choose to walk away, you feel in the moment as if you are in control and that turning your back on the options and opportunities available is the right choice . The center card suggests that perhaps that choice did not work out so well for them, or that it caused a degree of strife. They appear weak and stressed under the weight of the swords above them. A bed is where we spend time if we are sick or depressed, and this figure appears less able to leave. The third card reveals that perhaps it was necessary to go through that experience, as the they have come out stronger. She looks pensive and thoughtful - life's experiences have led to greater knowledge, maturity, confidence and personal growth. It has not been forgotten - she has learned from it.

There isn't a wrong way to read the cards. Your intuition and your perspective in life in general will give you the meaning that best suits the situation you need at a given time. There are many many different way to interpret the cards above. what resonates with the the one who is being read is the proper way to read cards.
This is a great video! Thanks for the great tips!!

The eight of cups are emotional attachments from the past and which no longer serve them. The decision to leave such attachments behind may be a worry at first, with the 9 swords its a completion of a particular stage in your emotional growth and the Queen of cups is basically indicating the decision was a positive outcome and progress,

I saw a significant emotional loss in the past that is causing emotional distress in the present but that the future sees you mastering your emotions and being in a much better place! We will of course interpret differently but your explanation of connecting the cards was very useful and it will definitely help me in the future. Thank you 🙏❤️

Sometimes, depending on the reading, I read the 9 of Swords as "waking up from a nightmare". So, not necessarily a "negative" card, but more of a "emerging from a bad situation", but dealing with the fallout (sometimes I see it almost like "having a hangover"... waking from a bad dream and it kind of stays with you throughout the day). Then with the Queen of Cups, rising above the emotional turmoil of the situation.

  • @aquarianchictarot2491
    @aquarianchictarot2491 4 ปีที่แล้ว +36

Someone made a hard decision based on intuition not knowing what would unfold ahead. Current, their is worry about decision made, hence sleepless nights and anxiety- but the card assures that the negative phase is almost complete. It is really not a big deal as what the person is making it out to be (self destructive thinking). Last card assures that the person will find balance and use experience to have a strong foundation going forward.

I took this as recently walking away from something / someone that no longer served you + the 9 of swords is needing to deal with the emotions, perhaps grief and potential regret of that decision. The Queen is moving into a stage of acceptance and regaining emotional stability once you’ve dealt with the feelings you need to that come with walking away / choosing a different path

New to this. First card I felt was walking away from addictions or something no longer serving them. The 2nd card reminded me of depression and late night tossing and turning. I felt it was because of the past hurt. The queen of cups made me think of a mother who is nurturing and very sensitive to the needs of others. Maybe they are going to get counseling and everything falls in place.

i interpret this as someone leaving a relationship yet it causes a lot of pain for them because they miss their old partner. they eventually step into their power and realize to be comfortable with their emotions and that its okay to feel heartbroken. they still keep their old partner in mind, but it doesn't affect them as much.

  • @Warrior-ps7cl

I agree with Niamh, your first comment, that it represents waking from a nightmare, waking from a bad situation which would make more sense from the first card that shows someone walking away from a bad situation. And the second card would be waking up from a bad situation. And the Queen of cups would represent her position afterward.

That's really cool! Thanks for the explanation. My reading for these cards goes like this: There was a moment of scarcity or a feeling of lack despite the fact that you are actually surrounded with abundance. You dont see it nor realize it. Because of this, you feel alone and stuck and you think there's no way out. However, the 10 of swords is reminding you that you are not alone and if you look inwards, you will find that you actually have it in you to rise through your current situations. Listen to your inner self and appreciate all the blessings around you, big or small. The queen of cups is encouraging you to reflect and she's telling you that you will be guided throughout your emotional transitions. She's reminding you to be gentle to yourself and to try and remember what truly brings you happiness.

I read the eight of cups as someone who’s walking away from a thing place or situation that has served its purpose in your life I see it as moving on from things that no longer serve you or maybe walking towards something better in a positive aspect because as you see the cups are empty so to me that is revealing that they you have took what you needed from them and they have served their purpose the nine of swords I read as maybe someone being very stressed and having anxiety and being kept up by their thoughts or feelings about a situation maybe fears I don’t see it personally as refusing to see more like seeing but being stressed by what they see or feel

  • @NM-yv7mr
    @NM-yv7mr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

For me, anxiety is always a fear of the future. The swords In the 9 of swords points towards the future (east) (queen of cups) yet the figure will not uncover their eyes to see. If they did, they could see the advice the Queen of Cups has to offer, as she sits calmy in the present moment appreciating her cup.

The past in which some emotional work was either rejected or neglected gives rise to regret and anguish. The future offers forgiveness, and possible resolution of the original omission. Maybe.

I had a love spread for a friend where one card was about conflict and the next was about blissful love, only for the next to be about regret and the next about soulmates and vice versa. I was so confused about the mixed messages. Thank you for the video, I will try to connect the cards to one another. My main feeling was that the happiness is only superficial while deep down inside the couple (or at least one partner) is unhappy.

I’ve always felt tarot is related to Jungian theory bc of the archetypal pictorial representations and bc tarot explores the unconscious as a collective, employing Judeo-Christian and Hermetic ideology. One’s intuition taps into the collective unconscious to discern meaning. Guiding principle: ‘As above, so below’

The first thing that hit me when you turned over the third card is the two figures on the right facing each other. The one in the middle is exhausted after a long emotional or psychological journey/battle, and the Queen is turned to acknowledge them and offer emotional strength.

I really like the idea of having the cards dialogue with one another. In the case of the 9 of Swords, I imagine a kind of anxious, fevered monologue -- fears and concerns rolling off the tongue with little space to hear what someone else may be trying to tell them. The Queen of Cups listens to this diatribe patiently, knowingly, aware that the best tactic is to simply be present. Almost like letting a toddler wear him or herself down in a tantrum.

This is wild, so, I did a spread last night to see where I am locked up in my life and how to break free and the first card I pulled was the Queen of Cups. (In the booklet I like to reference the Queen of Cups talks about getting out of your head and into your heart.)
This morning I decided to look up a video on how to interpret the cards in comparison to each other because I'd like to improve on that. Well, this video came up.
What's amazing is this PPF spread from 10 years ago accurately describes my past, and lines up perfectly with the spread I did last night!

Hmm Im not sure if you have actually looked up the meanings of these cards, but the 8 of cups meaning is that the man is choosing to walk away from something....he is leaving behind the full cups behind him and crossing the river to the other side, the 9 of swords can indicate emotional turmoil and unrest....they are two very different cards, def not similar. (holy, I just noticed this vid is 10 years old so Im sure you have learned even more since then, sorry I had no idea it was that old lol).

Kate , firstly what a soothing voice , secondly I believe colours are vital , also the symbolism within would make the reading more personal , I feel that past position shows walking away from a difficult situation or issue , a positive one at that cups = emotion , rebirth etc .... almost taking the longer or hard road , present position still very defensive And hard to let go of your life decision, the flowers represent red - passion and love and new hope - the future positions shows that you made the right choice for you , more prosperous , the water is still but still you have stability , colour again is vital - also symbology is pretty vast with this card . IMO x blessings

The cards are a tool and a great tool at that. So with that being said..I would have to disagree with jackson voase, she was giving a general meaning.

I think is a positive reading. Can you confirm that? Thank you!!

So that person maybe currently feel really bad, feel like they have fall off from somewhere high in their life, and they feel disapointed.
Temperance for a relationship is actually really nice, since that relationship can bring to both of them the balance and peace that they need in their lives.

One interpretation: Somebody in deep emotional turmoil, and a psychologist/psychiatrist helping them out.

Could be, but you also have to keep in mind of the past, present and future. The future is the way that shows you a path that you could take. And becoming a psychologist wouldn’t really add up. (Just my opinion though)

I clicked on this because I know nothing about tarot reading but did the simplest card pull of past, present, and future. For present I got the 9 or swords and the picture is exactly the same so we must have the same deck of cards. For past I drew the Ace of Swords and Future drew The Chariot. The present card definitely sounds like me. Anyone want to take a crack at interpreting my past and future cards?

I have a question please. When I was viewing the spread I gotten something a little different, as you explained as if the Queen of Cups was a outside person in the future helping or advising. I was thinking of it as themselves facing the situation in order to find a solution and was able move on to a more positive outcome and stage of their life. Why did you decide it was an outside influence?

I am a beginner, but for me in this reading I think of a relationship. I feel masculine energy from the 8 of cups.. we are almost to the end but walked away unexpectedly due to financial burdens.. the female energy is now left alone to deal with all the burdens herself, but she decides to overcome and prosper becoming the queen bad bitch she always was meant to be., without that loser to hold her down. She stands tall on her throne!

So I kinda see the bottom line of how you do it.
First, you analyze the picture without delving too deep into the symbolisms.
Then you use your knowledge about the given meanings of the individual cards based on their energy, numeric symbols.

I see a woman healed from past heartache. She knows the value and worth of her love, hence what’s in the golden chalice...in the future she will think carefully before offering her love, those 9swords having served as lessons...seems like a mature woman musing or reminiscing on a past affair..

Quick simple way I see this … Man leaves relationship no longer in love with the woman. Woman distraught that man has left. Woman looks back at her memories of the love she once had. Further cards need to be drawn for the full story as to what happens next.
