Weird! I got a set of tarot for myself a year ago and did everything “right” and never got reading that made sense. Tonight after nearly a year I pulled them out and did what felt natural. I cleansed with incense swirling the smoke under the cards and then I sat down held the cards to my heart and kissed them before starting a reading. I also listened to rain sounds with noise canceling headphones because rain makes me so happy. I experienced the most beautiful reading and I felt so connected to my cards for the first time. Glad I’m not the only one who’s kissed their deck.
I also don't agree with needing to be gifted a deck. No one would have ever bought me a deck. I finally just bought myself two decks at 36 years old. I also shuffle until card(s) pop out. I call them jumpers since I don't know what the technical name is. I go with my intuition then use the book since each artist had their own message when creating their deck.
I also bought my first deck and several more hehe. I’ve learned to use my intuition more as I got used to reading them but I still look the meanings up, and probably always will as it may have something I’ve missed. Biddy tarot is a good website if you don’t have any books at hand! Also, I call those cards ‘fliers’ because to me they’ve always flown out of the deck because they’re like ‘READ ME’ 😂

I once did a tarot spread to find out what was about to happen in the last episode of got. It was 100% accurate. No kidding. (and weirdly, 5/6 cards were major arcana.)

Random story of how I manifested my first deck of Tarot cards. A friend of mine had the EXACT DECK YOU'RE USING and I fell in love with it. I even told her that one day I will have it. When I moved shortly after that exchange I found myself nowhere near where I had intended to live and reconnected with someone who told me she had a tarot deck that she never used and asked me if I wanted it. I thought "sure, maybe it's the deck I'm meant to have since I just stumbled across it" and she gave me THOSE EXACT CARDS! I've been happily using The Wild Unknown Tarot deck for about 6 months now. I’m with you on reversals. When I started reading tarot, I read reversals. As someone who is trying to get into tarot but isn't exactly a "devoted witch", this was a very helpful video! Most of the videos i've seen so far talked mainly about certain rituals regarding the cards and the deep spirituality of actually using the cards, so i didn't really benefit from those, because i mainly want to use tarots to explore "my own soul and mindset", and discover things about myself and my actions, and depend more on myself based off what the cards try to tell me to improve on. This was a relaxed, simple way to read the cards, and i tried using a normal card deck and asked myself a couple of questions and i really benefited from it! Thank you for this helpful video!
The deck I have been wanting for a long time was gifted to me by a friend I randomly met and hit it off with 😭 she never connected with it and gifted it to me since she never used it. I don’t believe your first deck has to be gifted but I love that mine was gifted! It’s almost like the universe set it up to happen.
I'm so happy to hear that another witch doesn't use spreads! I've always read with my intuition, whether it be that a few cards jump out of the deck, or I feel that it's time to pull them. Sometimes I only put three cards, sometimes, I end up pulling out ten. My cards have never failed me, and I bought both of my decks. My first one is really aggressive to this day, while the newer one is like a gentle "hey babe, you uh, you got some shit you need to pay attention to before you fall over a cliff". Thanks for sharing!
I put down my tarot deck for 25 years because I did my reading exactly like you do, and back then, there was no TH-cam or ANY real information on the brand new internet about how to read Tarot... and frankly, the way that everyone said was “proper” or “correct” didn’t feel right and seemed to restrictive. So I stopped using my cards, even though I felt that my way worked very well! Part of me felt like I was a fraud since I wasn’t following the rules of tarot. Well, I kept my cards a s still have them to this day. I brought them out a few days ago and decided to buy a new deck as well. The Fountain. Instant connection. I am so utterly moved by this deck, and feel like, especially after seeing your video here, I am going to really enjoy this new branch of my Tarot journey. Thank you for posting this.
got my first tarot deck a couple of days ago and I've been doing lots of studying on everything i need to know and this one video was the last one I'm gunna watch so i can start doing reading on myself and maybe others. thank you sm for putting out the content you do and taking time to educate about these things its truly amazing. you worded everything amazing and seeing a detailed video about how you give yourself readings has made me even more exited to start!! keep up the good work b ♡
My friend and I got our first tarot decks when we were 12. Her mom was a professional reader. We went to the new age store and picked out what deck we wanted and then we gifted them to each other! I've received many decks as gifts, and many I bought myself. I also read without spreads most of the time, read the jumpers, or just pick off the top too!
I used to use playing cards using the traditional French cartomancy system and they got dark real quiccckkkkk. I mean they turned out to be accurate, but I’ll never use them again (probably)
@@FishKeeperJosh cartomancy is its own system a very open and close type of thing, unlike tarot cards. The readings are more fortune-teller type things such as "You're going to lose your job". There isn't much room for interpretation.
@@frida8519 I agree with you that certain systems tend to be harsher in delivering messages. I envied those who could read the playing cards as I saw astonishing accuracy with their results but the system never clicked with me as I would get opposite results from what I predicted with them. I find the Lenormand and Kipper system to be neutral but direct enough where it doesn’t sugarcoat the truth but will tell you the actual happenings in real life accurately for example we were having internet problems for days and I am not a technician myself but I used my lenormand cards anyway to find out what was the problem since my Mom assumes it probably had to do with our wires but the cards didn’t show wires as the problem but the router being old and outdated, the cards also showed the technician not paying attention to it so when he came the first thing he did was spend hours checking our wires in the house it wasn’t only until he was about to give up when he realized maybe we need to reboot and update our router if we haven’t done so in a long time and viola internet came back that moment. I also have a collection of gypsy cards and they tend to lean on negative messages but it is pretty truthful for example it will say a job offer is coming your way that may seem like good money but you will later learn that you were cheated with the pay and the work environment is not good where you will end up leaving.
Loved this! Got my first tarot deck from my mom, she had bought it on a school trip in England but never got to use it, so when I started talking about wanting to learn tarot she pulled this 25 year old unused deck out of a box, it was one of the best gifts I've ever received! This helped a lot, I love watching you videos, I just found you channel a couple of weeks ago, I just love you energy 😍
It's actually really helpful you can go back and look at your growth or some of the reading and it's really amazing to read. It's a beautiful way to bond with your cards also
I am a noob when it comes to Tarot, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear that this is exactly the way I read my daily tarot - sleepy, coffee in hand, shuffling until one pops out and/or doing a spread (I will often hear spirit tell me how many to count off from the top or bottom). Thanks for this! I feel validated!
My daughter, the youngest bought my first deck then I bought 2 more and I overheard her and my oldest (son) when she was helping him find a deck that is on it's way to me! I am giddy! I am just starting and between you and Marshall I am tbh getting really comfortable in letting my intuition guide me on a lot of things. Thank you for this!
olivia: dont do a daily reading in the morning, you might pull the tower and then become anxious me: *pulls a card in the morning bc im impatient* *pulls the tower*
Your metthods are sooook similar to mine!! I'm not against reversals but I don't currently use them bc I amnqant to learn all the upright versions first.
SWEETIE I LOVE YOU!!!!!! YOU'VE HELPED ME SO MUCH ON MY WICCA JOURNEY THANK UUU Edit: thank you for the heart! i mean it when i say u helped me, thanks again :)
oh my god I copied you as you spread out the deck and went to pick a card and as you said "I keep getting the ace of cups", I pulled out the ace of cups. magical moment!
I was a professional Tarot reader in New Orleans. And i usually do just like you. Shuffle til your done and deal from the top. Good sharp insight as always!
Tell me why I was just practicing on my tarot and I was watching like every tarot video and I was like Olivia NEEDS to make a video and I just seen your post and I don’t think I’ve ever clicked soo fast😂
Love how carefree and not solemn you are, it's really relatable. Most of the video pull up kinda stoic routines but I'm more comfortable with a instinctive and easy going one so it's easier to incorporate in my daily life! It was a really lovely video, thank you!
When u first started tarot did u try to memorize the cards and their meanings or do u just “makeup” a meaning that u are picking up from the card? I’m trying to get into tarot and I was going to try I guess u could say study the cards and try to memorize them but I’ve heard a lot of witches say u shouldn’t treat ur cards like they’re flash cards and I’m not sure why ? I’m just really curious
This is months late but- it’s my understanding that tarot cards are about intuition *and* the official meanings. If you’re reading for something specific, it’s sorta hard to apply the official meanings sometimes- if I’m asking a question about say, how my day is going to go, and the card I pull represents birth- that doesn’t mean I’m going to have a baby that day. Or even that someone else is going to give birth that day. I could interpret that as the birth of a new friendship or relationship, the birth of a new belief.... Go with your gut feeling about the cards. If your gut says something that differs from the official meanings- trust your intuition.
I do tarot readings on and off mainly because I find myself becoming obsessed with readings. And it's quite tiring some times. Anyways what I do is ask my questions and just lay down the cards in order of how they fell or how I drew them and try to read them on my on and then go back and look up the card meanings and just go with whatever meaning I feel that sticks out more than the others. I haven't been too bad at it doing it this way.
I'm intrigued to know more about that playing card situation 😳 I was gifted this deck for Christmas! I never really considered it too much but i am SO happy to have it. Its kinda been blowing my mind lol
I'm an instagram follower, decided to look up some tarot up on the good old youtube and I click on the first video and it is you. I have great respect for you and your work!
I use a pillow case because i haven’t been able to buy a tarot cloth yet XD i also tend to do a little prayer to spirit or whatever positive force is out there to help out
Everyone that I know in Ohio wraps their decks in random fabrics. A lot, including myself, use bandanas. It's more or less to protect the cards during travel and give a nice surface to read on. I'm glad you mentioned the silk wrap thing. The person who taught me did use silk and discussed with me why. I just didn't feel it necessary.
I was guided to this video and I know precisely why. I have an organic thing with always shuffling my cards prior to reading and I didn’t realize that was helping cleanse the energy, I always “felt it” though. I also do the same thing with making sure my cards are all facing the same way, plus I’ve been seeing the Ace of Cups a lot lately. I’m so grateful to my guides for guiding me to this video. Thank you for making this video. 🧚🏻
When you talked about pulling the Tower first thing in the morning and having it mess with your head all day - that is literally what happened to me this morning!! I came to the conclusion that for “card of the day” readings I want to try pulling at night instead because that Tower was on my mind all day and I felt like I was waiting for some anvil to drop on my head. Too much influence! I just found your channel recently and love your content! ❤️
i’ve stumbled upon this channel a month or so ago, and this is the second video i’ve watched on here. i have to say that the vibes i get when watching your videos is comforting and makes me feels happy and more spiritual. i’m subbed to a couple other witches, but i don’t get the same vibes as i do when watching these. i’m really drama to you and your personality, and i love what you do. much love, light, and luck to you. 💕✨🍀
I'm very, very new to tarot. The first few readings I did, I ensured that all the cards in my deck were upright, and got some confusing readings that didn't really resonate with me or make sense to the questions I was asking, but the moment I shuffled in a way that let them get reversed and did a three card reading it threw three reversed cards at me and it made so much sense lmao.
Love this! I've always bought my own decks, whether I was 15 getting my first one; or 30ish when getting back into tarot. I love them; they work just fine! I've started doing a card of the day this year; and I've enjoyed it. I don't really like journaling unless it's tarot journaling, and I always record my spreads. :)
My first deck was the wild unknown and i bought it myself, keep it in its original box, and i cleansed it once. I feel like out of all my decks, its the closest to me even though i "broke" all the rules lol
This is so cool to watch. As a new tarot reader and not knowing much about reading them. I'm thinking of going for a reading just to experience someone doing it in person and their habits.
I bought my first Tarot deck. I was taught that it's important for you to like your deck and feel a connection to it so you should pick it out yourself. I store mine in silk. Not because I think you have to, but because I think that some traditions should be maintained. I use black or purple silk.
I’ve been on the path for the past 7 years and there is always something to learn...thank you for sharing your knowledge ❤️ I do a reading for each week and once in the beginning of the month.
I just got my tarot deck today and was searching up videos for readings while shuffling! the ace of cups kept showing up and popping out of my deck. I think its wild that you ALSO kept seeing the ace of cups. Really reaffirmed my intuition :)
I thought I was doing something wrong at the beginning, because I was comfortable reading without a spread. But I like the free form nature of pulling a small amount of cards and finding the story.
Made my first deck from a set of standard poker cards, you are the power, not the cards, also, a great way to recharge your deck is to just put them back in the "correct" order, you can also use an end of the day card to prepare for your dream projects, or guided meditation theme 🥰🦄
I read my cards like you... with coffee and a glass of water! Lol... I love your free spirit with the cards this gives me comfort when reading them... thank you ❤️💫
Thanks for your ideas. I will definitely implement a number of them in my own practice. I am still a newbie at this, but I've found that my tarot reads are super accurate and applicable when I have a specific question in mind.
Thank you for this video, it really helps me improve my tarot journey. Before, I didn't take note my reading and that makes me struggle with a deep understanding of the card (writing it down will help you really look into the words that the card want to tell you, rather than just look at it once then forget about it two seconds later.) And I totally agree with you about the tarot deck as a gift, I bought my first deck for myself when I was a high school student (didn't have much money then so my first deck is just an ok printed from a random shop), some of my friends said that won't work because it's fake and not as a gift. But guess what, it turns out the best understanding deck for me since then, she is very wise, full of love, and can't stop talking (I swear every time we have a conversation, she never allow me to take under 5 cards like if I try to take 3, she will suddenly drop 2 more, and if I dare to doubt her, she may drop 2 or 3 more. Every single time! 🤦🏻♀️ and I am a very slow, lazy card reader)
Thank you so much for this video collaboration. I did my first reading with your video, then watched his after. Powerful. I'm new to all this, I actually picked up the tarot deck at a thrift store to sell. Never did and found out in my garage today. Now it's mine I guess.
So I live in a dorm so I was freaking out because half of the stuff people suggest to cleanse a deck I can’t do. So I’m glad I found this video because it was really informative
Thank you. I have been reading Tarot for around ten years for other people but was always a bit wary or reading for myself; mainly fearing that I could influence the cards one way or another. But having must done a reading along with watching your videos - the response from the cards made a lot of sense given my current situation. Thank you. xx I have also just started embracing the Witchy side of me that I have been suppressing for years and I am having a blast learning from your videos and I am going to check out your online coven for sure xx
No, you don't have to wrap your deck in silk but it is a good idea to do so. Silk has a way of protecting you deck from outer vibes. I have kept my deck wrapped in the same silk scarf for over 40 years.
I finally feel like I came across to the same "chaotic calmness" I feel about my own tarot journey when I watched this! I'm sort of new so it feels a bit rebellious to not follow the "rules" I see online or in books but I agree with everything you disagreed. I don't like treating my deck like a boujie thing, I feel like there's a better connection between us when it's just right next to my head on my nightstand, I literally put stuff on the wooden box I keep it in sometimes. And I don't cleanse all the time. Just whenever I feel necessary and it's whatever I feel right at the moment. Sometime I burn sage or a herb, sometimes I just shuffle in my hands or shuffle all over the table very messily to get it all mixed. I read whenever I want or sometimes I just grab my deck and shuffle without reading, just to strengthen our connection. I bought my own deck as well because I didn't want anybody else's energy to be linked in any way. I decided to start this journey on my own and I'm doing it for myself so I felt like it fitted a lot more to pick and purchase my own deck. Watching this video, especially the begining was very relaxing and nice for me since I felt understood, how you don't get hung up on most of those sayings as well, so thank you :) You officially became the first tarot channel I followed
i love listening to your voice! (hopefully that doesn’t sound weird 😂). Sometimes i just put headphones on and listen to your q&a’s or your collaborations with dylan (or other people 🙃). They’re very relaxing and informational. thanks :)
Synchronicity brought me to your video. Thank you so much. I happen to randomly have the same deck as you except pocket size version. *Not coincidence :)
thanks for reuploading!! i really enjoyed that video, it's so natural and easy how you read, much like myself :D it's so sad how many beginners get discouraged with tarot because of the sheer amount of huge spreads some people suggest (when i started out, everyone was telling me the celtic cross is a MUST, two years later i still havent found it very useful lmao) and the big amount of preparation (cleansing etc) that some people put in before sitting down and reading.. i would have loved to have this video to reference back when i started out, so thanks for making it, i'm sure it helped out a lot of tarot newbies ❤️ also by the way, did you cut your hair? it looks a bit shorter somehow :0 very prettyyyy ❤️❤️

I am very interested to hear about the possessive playing card deck ! How you identified that, how it was effecting you etc please. 😊
Same, if you feel comfortable sharing!!
got my first tarot deck a couple of days ago and I've been doing lots of studying on everything i need to know and this one video was the last one I'm gunna watch so i can start doing reading on myself and maybe others. thank you sm for putting out the content you do and taking time to educate about these things its truly amazing. you worded everything amazing and seeing a detailed video about how you give yourself readings has made me even more exited to start!! keep up the good work b ♡
What do you mean at 6:50 when you said a certain deck was very “possessive” and that it wasn’t fun anymore?
I used to use playing cards using the traditional French cartomancy system and they got dark real quiccckkkkk. I mean they turned out to be accurate, but I’ll never use them again (probably)
Afrida Faiza doesn’t that mean your mind was dark because you’re the one interpreting the cards?
@@FishKeeperJosh cartomancy is its own system a very open and close type of thing, unlike tarot cards. The readings are more fortune-teller type things such as "You're going to lose your job". There isn't much room for interpretation.
@@FishKeeperJosh but olivia did say she was using playing cards as tarot cards, not that she was using cartomancy
“Whatever works for you.”
This is why I love her channel! ✨💜✨
Another great video. Pretty funny that you talk about not wanting to get the tower, and the guy you collab with pulls it.
“Don’t set it out in the sun...........Dylan” 😂😂😂😂
Honestly , I carry my tarot cards in ziplock bags 🧙🏻♂️😂😤
I have a wooden box for my deck and an oracle deck
Wow I never thought of using a notebook to keep track of readings. That actually sounds really helpful
It's actually really helpful you can go back and look at your growth or some of the reading and it's really amazing to read. It's a beautiful way to bond with your cards also
What u mean by " the deck got Possessive? "
Ugh, be still my Italian heart 😍 great job with Occhiomarcio! There’s so much witchiness in Italian culture
Thank you for this!
olivia: dont do a daily reading in the morning, you might pull the tower and then become anxious
me: *pulls a card in the morning bc im impatient*
*pulls the tower*
Your metthods are sooook similar to mine!! I'm not against reversals but I don't currently use them bc I amnqant to learn all the upright versions first.
*EXCELLENT* VIDEO!!! 💜💟💜 Your energy is simply bubbly!!! 😁
Just *love and adore* your Tarot journal!!! It's so very beautiful!!! ❤❤❤
SWEETIE I LOVE YOU!!!!!! YOU'VE HELPED ME SO MUCH ON MY WICCA JOURNEY THANK UUU
Edit: thank you for the heart! i mean it when i say u helped me, thanks again :)
oh my god I copied you as you spread out the deck and went to pick a card and as you said "I keep getting the ace of cups", I pulled out the ace of cups. magical moment!
I was a professional Tarot reader in New Orleans. And i usually do just like you. Shuffle til your done and deal from the top. Good sharp insight as always!
I'm actually learning about tarot reading for myself, at the moment. I'm loving it. 🌖
Tell me why I was just practicing on my tarot and I was watching like every tarot video and I was like Olivia NEEDS to make a video and I just seen your post and I don’t think I’ve ever clicked soo fast😂
*witchcraft*
*y e s*
Thank you! This has been the most beginner friendly & informative video that I have found so far. Thank you so much.
If your gut says something that differs from the official meanings- trust your intuition.
why dont you try studying each card and reading the meaning of each one.. observe each card take your time. thats one way to start
Hardest man in Tarot sent me! Liked and sub'd, absolutely love your style and vibe. ✨🖤
Krystyna G. Oh there you are 💎
I'm intrigued to know more about that playing card situation 😳
I was gifted this deck for Christmas! I never really considered it too much but i am SO happy to have it. Its kinda been blowing my mind lol
Thank you. I have been looking for more creators who share what they do in spiritual practice.
I'm an instagram follower, decided to look up some tarot up on the good old youtube and I click on the first video and it is you. I have great respect for you and your work!
I bought the wild unknown tarot cards and i love them thanks for the recommendation
HI Olivia! Fantastic vid. Your advice and insights are excellent. Thank you for being a shining light in the world.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Very cozy video.
I like to put crystal on my cards before and after doing my reading.
I have been looking for a video exactly like this everywhere. Thank you!!
I love how brilliant the colours are in your new Tarot deck
Also, I keep my Tarot deck in an old sock and keep that on top of my Grimoire
Thank you for telling us to say thank you. I hadn’t even thought about it. It has already made a difference.
Thank you Olivia. Last year i learned candle magick and sigils from your videos. It’s been a great journey.
i’ve stumbled upon this channel a month or so ago, and this is the second video i’ve watched on here. i have to say that the vibes i get when watching your videos is comforting and makes me feels happy and more spiritual. i’m subbed to a couple other witches, but i don’t get the same vibes as i do when watching these. i’m really drama to you and your personality, and i love what you do. much love, light, and luck to you.
You’re fast becoming my fav on here. Thx for the vide and info. I’m learning a lot from your vids
Before, I didn't take note my reading and that makes me struggle with a deep understanding of the card (writing it down will help you really look into the words that the card want to tell you, rather than just look at it once then forget about it two seconds later.)
And I totally agree with you about the tarot deck as a gift, I bought my first deck for myself when I was a high school student (didn't have much money then so my first deck is just an ok printed from a random shop), some of my friends said that won't work because it's fake and not as a gift.
I just got my first tarot deck and this is really helpful! Can’t wait to look more into it!
Thank you. xx
I have also just started embracing the Witchy side of me that I have been suppressing for years and I am having a blast learning from your videos and I am going to check out your online coven for sure xx
Thank you so much, I didn’t know that we could print tarot decks and you helped me out in getting my own tarot decks♥️
I love 3 cards spreads as well! I used to pull out more cards but didn’t really work for me. Love your vids!
i love listening to your voice! (hopefully that doesn’t sound weird 😂). Sometimes i just put headphones on and listen to your q&a’s or your collaborations with dylan (or other people 🙃). They’re very relaxing and informational. thanks :)
I love your videos, you explain things so clear and easy to understand. you have been such a big help in my learning journey. thank you.
Your such a beautiful Soul. Thank you for teaching an old lady new things.
I"m drinking this brand right now, black tea with mango, out of my first sipsby box and it's good!
Synchronicity brought me to your video. Thank you so much. I happen to randomly have the same deck as you except pocket size version. *Not coincidence :)
If u new and don't have deck use uni taro app it's great. I feel like msg can be send by anyway! Thank u Olivia love u
Likes urs way of telling tarot in a simple way. Likes everything what u are mam . Expecting some more tarot readings .Thanks
thanks for reuploading!! i really enjoyed that video, it's so natural and easy how you read, much like myself :D it's so sad how many beginners get discouraged with tarot because of the sheer amount of huge spreads some people suggest (when i started out, everyone was telling me the celtic cross is a MUST, two years later i still havent found it very useful lmao) and the big amount of preparation (cleansing etc) that some people put in before sitting down and reading.. i would have loved to have this video to reference back when i started out, so thanks for making it, i'm sure it helped out a lot of tarot newbies ❤️ also by the way, did you cut your hair? it looks a bit shorter somehow :0 very prettyyyy ❤️❤️
This is a another great video. Your real approach is so great to hear, always 💚💚💚💚💚💚
So useful seeing this thank you for sharing 💕
I'm happy it could help!
