  • On a blustery and cool January day I hike the Stones Creek Game Lands, which is in Onslow County, NC. The two tracts (Stainback & Folkstone) are roughly 1000 combined acres. It is comprised of relatively diverse terrain, ranging from bottomland forest, pine savanna and large swaths of open fields.
My understanding is that the North Carolina Chapter of The Nature Conservancy worked with several agencies to purchase the tracts in about 2017, so this is relatively new public lands for our area.
The property is adjacent of Kings Creek which flows into Stump Sound, which is designated as outstanding resource waters due to the excellent water quality.
There's very little narration in this video. I did my best to minimize the wind noise, but it was gusting well over 25 mph. I filmed all of it with a GoPro 8 in varying light conditions.

Thinking about trying my luck turkey hunting on the Stainback tract this year, you ever see any sign out there?

Absolutely, somewhere in the video I document the remains of a turkey. I don't know what kind of pressure you will experience there, though it doesn't seem to be well known yet. Please let us know how you do?

Yeah I’ve lived here for 4 years and just recently found out about it. I’ll definitely update you on how it goes!

Just a little update on opening day. Had a Jake and a hen coming in, another hunter must’ve heard my calling and decided to try and crawl up on the scene and they got outta there. 😂

@@trintmorris2159 thanks for the update! Yeah, crawling up on somebody turkey hunting is a bad idea. Good luck this season and I'm glad to hear you saw some there.
