12.4 isn't that big in my opinion. It's just big enough. Ultra is crazy big though. I saw the S8 Ultra in Best Buy once. That sucker is massive. Felt like a desktop tablet to me. Not portable at all. To each their own though.
I pre-ordered an S9 11" base tablet. I use it mostly for reading music while playing. One would think that the larger and more expensive tablet would be better. I was really on the fence, but went with the 11" form factor any way. I am also 64 so I don't have the eyes of a 20 year old. HOWEVER, with the Amoled display it is quite easy to read my music (I have a Bluetooth pedal). This form factor is more portable too. I am quite happy with the smaller form factor and with the better screen it works perfectly.
Nice. My S6 lite just went to a boot loop and looks unrecoverable, and the major QOL I'm missing (aside from watching) is not being able to read music properly.
Will check with Samsung service center if they can still fix my S6 but will definitely get a new one soon as well.

I agree with you on the size. I had a Microsoft Surface 7 and it felt too big as a tablet (12.5"). A few years later I got the Surface Go (10.5") and it's so much nicer as a tablet. When I need a bigger display I dock it. I think the Samsung S9 also has video out?
I have saved to buy a Tab 9 Ultra but should I get the Tab 9+ instead with the 512gb option and cheaper while presale orders.
In Europe (I'm in France) the S9s shipped right on the day of the announcement. I've had mine for a week, and bought the new hybrid cover and the view cover 3 days later.
I preordered the S9+ because for my use the Ultra would be too big. I traded in my old Tab S3 and got $100 for it with the preorder deals. My S8 was only a 9.7" and I wanted something bigger otherwise I would just use my phone. IP68 is awesome because I take my tablet camping & offroading so it is always dirty, now it will be easy to clean. I like that the SPen now charges on the case & the outdoor case is exactly the type of case I want for my needs plus it secures the pen.
Is it a vast improvement on tab 8 ? I have the tab 2, time for an upgrade I think.
I still use my Tab s6 from 2019 & am contemplating on either preordering or just buying an s9+ or s9U but with the Ultra, the lack of 5G or really any connectivity when trying to order from Verizon really makes me just not want to order since that's a must for me. I barely ever use my s6 on LTE but when I do it's nice having the option to do so. Which basically leaves me with going with the s9+ but with that I really don't see much of an upgrade benefit outside of the slightly larger size & ig the chip but the 855 in the s6 still works perfectly well for me, & I'm still feeling pretty burnt on how terrible the performance of the 8Gen1 is in my s22U. I've heard the Gen2 really optimized things but still. The s6 has essentially everything to offer that the s9+ does outside of the IP, size, & chip so ldek if the upgrade would really be worth it, my s6 is just 4 years old now & I kinda want something just newer. With the Ultra the only compromise I'd be making is the front camera bezel intrusion which tbh would prob end up being pretty irritating but that's the only one that seems like a worthwhile upgrade so it really sucks that there's no connectivity, & I can't find anything confirming that it will get connectivity down the line. The bezels on the s9+ look just as thick as the ones on my s6, but at least theres no notch like on the Ultra. Decisions decisions smh.
It's not just the screen size that's different. Ram size goes from 8GB to 16GB depending on model.
In Scandinavia all the tablets comes with 5g or just wifi. I am thinking of ordering the Tab s9.

I agree on a few fronts. I have been using my S8+ with a keyboard in Dex mode, and it's my main computer. I can't wait to get my Ultra!
I've been using the tab s7 for over 2 years now for college work and it worked absolutrly great however I'm tempted to upgrade to either s9+ or s9ultra before I start uni. I'm liking the idea of a bigger screen and definitely could use more storage and I'm worried that, if I continue with the s7 for my uni work, it will have been my main driver for 5 years by the end and worry it may fail mid way or run out of storage or something. Should I upgrade?
what i can say is, if you don't need to, don't. When the need arises get yourself one. Just keep your current one backed up.

I know that you mentioned an IPad Mini Pro model would be amazing and I would probably get one. Why doesn't Samsung make a S9e or something that has a 7.8-8.3 inch screen, Amoled (or even an LCD), Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 120hz, refresh, and spen support. I believe the demand would be insane for that form factor and power and Android. Ipad minis sell like crazy as they have zero competition. One can only hope though

@@TechOdyssey Erk, no folding crap for me. A good performing 8" tab would be great. Doesn't have to be crazy spec, but 8GB ram, and decent processor, I would buy. I'm not going to buy a 4GB tab anymore.

I have an S8 and have pre-ordered the S9 trading my S8 in on it. Seems a good deal but really wish they made an S9 mini. I tried the Apple mini but I am so used to android I was never comfortable with it and returned it. Most pilots use the mini in the cock pit and lots of us want an 8 inch tablet for reading. Unlike yourself I don't want to mix my phone with my tablet so the fold is not an option for me. Samsung needs something to compete with the Apple mini.
Tab S9 ad a tablet is the best choice put of this three. Plus and Ultra are too big to be handled easy, and that to me is the reason you buy a tablet. The bigger ones are for home use only in my opinion. The Ultra, together with the keyboardcover, can be seen as a laptop replacement.
with a case, it's very easy to handle.

I only say this because your volume is always significantly lower than other reviewers I watch. This is not a criticism, just an observation. I can always turn up the volume, but was curious. Your the only one I know that gave a thumbs up to the moto edge plus 2022 and just wanted to let you know that it finally got updated to Android 13 and some security updates and they go for around 300 used
Upgraded from the S7+ to the S9; however not quite sure if i made the right move to a smaller screen as its a lot smaller in Landscape mode, using the keyboard it is quite cramped. I think the experience would be better without it... Also have a Fold 4, which makes it more of a difficult decision whether to keep or not.
I'm considering downgrading from the tab s8+ to the s9 but I'm afraid I'm going to miss the screen real-estate
This is the main point for the decision to get the right size. I believe s9 is best as today I used it and I was able to use it easily. Grip and easily holding it on one hand makes me easily do tasks without tiring my forarm muscle.
I think for the s9+ it’ll be different like I won’t be able to hold it nicely like s9 and would be tiring to multitask after a certain amount of time. Although I haven’t used it but I’m assuming so after getting aware of ease of usage on either one.
This is a big point to have a good experience on a tab for years to come.
Upgraded from the S7 to the S8+ with their trade in deals. They'll give you MORE in trade in towards the S8 series than the S9 and the tablet was cheaper, so it was a no brainier.
Hoping it's not TOO big. I just wish they weren't so damn tall. The aspect ratio has been a problem for years. Makes them kind of awkward to hold in portrait, which is how I use mine 90% of the time. It's a tablet; not a laptop. If I wanted a laptop I'd buy one.

@@neyugnos1131 I don't think so! To each their own, but I was honestly expecting it to feel huge and it really doesn't. It's a little taller than I'd like, but I've always disliked the aspect ratio for Samsung's tablets. The size of the screen itself is nice. I still use it for reading articles and manga no problem

@@jonathanbenoit-mj9cv i tried both 13" ipad pro and 11" daily and the size matter a lot for a tablet depending of your usage, for example 11" feel much better to handle

I'm in Scotland, UK. I got my 512gb Tab s9 Ultra delivered today. Moving over from iPad Pro 12.9 3rd gen (2018). So far it's pretty stunning, works perfectly with my Z Fold 4.
One small thing that was such a cool feature I actually found by accident my curiosity peaked. It was that I needed to use a one time password on my phone to sign into my tab. I copied the code on my phone and then decided to try and hit paste on my Tab to see what would happen and it pasted. Blew my mind 🤣
The speakers are great, very loud and full. iPad speakers were excellent tbh but these are just newer and higher quality.
I love the SPen, I always used Galaxy Note phones best stylus on a phone by far.

Bro exactly the same moved from 3rd gen pro 12.9 I'll admit it's taking me sone getting use to 😂 the keyboard messed with me a bit but you can shrink it so all good and I'm already as fast as I was on my ipad after reshaping it to the same dimensions. Highly recommend that if you're getting frustrated with keyboard.

@@rangers5576 I'm also in the UK and nah no extra tip but I honestly wouldn't ever need another tip I believe that's exclusive to the s pen pro as for me I've typed on an ipad screen for 10 years now so an actual keyboard will be much slower 😂
A little late on responding to your review but wanted to say thanks for the information. I "just" upgraded from the S8 Ultra to the S9 Ultra but have not received it yet (received a deal I could not refuse with turning in my S8 Ultra). Just a couple comments. I think you are correct on the size, the Ultra us huge but I travel a lot and for me, I use it as my TV watching TH-cams, read from it, doodle often etc. It took a while for me to get comfortable with it but truly enjoy it now. Once I got use to the size, it was perfect for me but probably not for everyone. Again thanks for your review.
I'm loving the s9 ultra. 😂 That's true, I'm using it as a low performance laptop/chromebook replacement more than a typical tablet when I'm outside. It's perfect for that. The bundled prepaid subscriptions like Microsoft Office 365 and OneNote are nice, I hope I'll learn to use LumaFusion too just to make the most of the free stuff. 😅😅😅 At home, it's a great extension screen for my laptop/Nintendo switch, synchronises well with windows and other Bluetooth accessories (loving it matches well with fairly old logitech keyboards and mice). 😅😅😅
Hopefully they will have 5g for the ultra tablet soon in the states
Waiting on my s9 ultra. Coming from a Tab A, the ultra is a big deal for me. I need a big screen to watch videos or movies. I use my phone on a plane. Mainly I'll be using my s9 ultra at home.
7:41 That’s so you can write or draw in the area where the home bar is. It would be so annoying to have to fight with that, niche situation though it is, so I can forgive the incredibly minor inconvenience of needing to use my finger to go to the home screen like I normally do anyway.

You can either get a Galaxy fold which is 7.6 in. Or you could get one of the smaller tablets that they offer they offered tablets between 8 and 10 in.
Me too. I carry the iPad mini. Used to be Samsung, but all their good tablets are large. The iPad mini is the only Apple device I have, but a damn great one.

Tab S9 Faster storage, better chip, better battery life, IP68 Resistance, better speakers, lower blue light, a few other minor things. yes. It has 12gb RAM. Same resolution.

From what I've been told by my friend the tab s9 ultra battery life is the same as the s23 ultra for now and when you'll use it it'll learn hoy you use it and battery should improve

Yup! I've been doing this long enough to remember the 10.5" Tab S4 I still have mine! But I Remember thinking the Tab S6 was 10.5" & that was a good size, then the Tab S7 was 11" but WAIT! The Tab S7+ is 12.4" then the Tab S8+ has 16gb RAM/512GB but WAIT! The Tab S9 Ultra IS 14.6" & IT COMES WITH 16GB RAM/512GB! BUT WAIT! THE TAB S9 ULTRA HAS A 14.6" SCREEN WITH 16GB RAM AND 1 FREAKING TERABYTE OF STORAGE!!! You see the progression? What's next an Electric Bologna Folder that comes with next years!!lol!

You know samsung dropped the ball because I had every intention of upgrading til learning my 230 dollar keyboard case wouldn't work on the tab s9+ . It would have been worth the 499 upgrade but adding in an additional 230 was not. They should have offered trade in for the keyboards so people would atleast not be out the money they spent on them for the s8 series or offered a bigger discount towards the accessories
And that where the think they'll get you on sales. It pisses me off too
Just a thought....if you have the detachable samsung keybaord w/track pad ...you could probably still use the keyboard and replace the rear case back you could replace. That's what I ended up doing

Get the S9, after months of comparing them THERES no difference apart from the screen size and cameras. If you want to game, get the s9, s9+ and the ultra all have the game processor. Get the cheapest one for gaming. But if you like taking photos or drawing on a big screen, s9+ or ultra is good for you. If you want an affordable cheap, high performance tablet. s9 is the way to go. Don’t bother getting s9+ or the ultra version.

@@carlbrenda6518 It's also $1000 more than the Tab S9, doesn't have SD card support, and pointless for me to have when I already have a Pixel Fold. It's also going to be more fragile, something that will be a concern when I'm taking it into the warehouse.
The Z Fold 5 is too expensive to be used just as a tablet.
@@adamski101 Mhm. Exactly. If I didn't already have a Pixel Fold, I might do that but frankly, I much prefer it over the Z Fold, despite missing the S Pen. I'm making do with a mesh tip stylus but it's not quite the same.

Thanks for the words of caution. My dold 4 crapped out and replacing it with a s23 ultra, so decided to grab the s9 ultra. Just trying to maintain my big screen addiction. Fold 5 is not offering anything new of significance gonna sit it out for a bigger better fold 5. Great point of view
Just got the regular sized and the thing is a beast. This thing blows away any iPad imo. With gestures I can fly through apps and with tweaking the window scale animations, it's faster than a rocket ship no lie. Screen better too. Better to have a companion Samsung device phone like I have the s21 -- this way you can make and receive calls and texts from it. Also auto connects as hotspot to your Galaxy phone. Also acts as second screen which is separate from DeX. Great job, Samsung!!
The S9 Plus is the perfect size for me. The S9 is small, and the Utra is too big!!!

The tab s9 disappointed me again with the keyboard slim case, no backlit seriously ? The keyboard also doesn't have media key hotkeys (play/pause , volume , etc )

@TechOdyssey the tab s8 ultra keyboard was $349 retail price, so yeah the keyboard is def cheaper on that one. I got tired of the 14.6" display, portability was out of the question. I used it mostly at home. I am just complaining about why they couldn't add the backlit functionality... I don't feel cramped using the keyboard ( I had the s8+ keyboard) the buttons that are missing are the apps, recents, brightness, media control buttons, etc. Overall, I'm happy except the buttons missing certain functionality and lack of backlit. That's all
Btw, I didn't have the tab s8 ultra keyboard so, that's why I opted to get the smaller tab. So, there's the cushion, I can go between a 11 and 12.4" tablet which I have keyboard case now, but maybe it won't fit for the newer generations in the future. Who knows if I decide to go big next time 🙂
So wait are you also saying that the s9 keyboard is not backlit but the s9+ one is?
@@parveenraghav4646 if you are asking me, I can’t say for s9+. However, S8+ keyboard (slim one) definitely was no backlit. S9 keyboard no backlit as well.
Wow some use 15 and 17 inch laptops so a 14 inch tablet wont be an issue.

S8 ultra is amazing
I opted for the s9+. I bought the s8 ultra last time and it’s just idk. Too big for out and about. I love the screen size at home when I’m at the island, table or at my desk. On the couch, or in public it’s kind of too much. Not good for an airplane table. But it’s a great device. I also like the s9+ size because I can mount in my jeep easily. I could mount the ultra but it’s so large it takes up most of the dash.
I'm very happy with my S8 Ultra and don't see the need to upgrade. 😊

I agree with the argument. You have to have a special need when you get into the 12+" screen. I have the tab7fe. I use it with a stand as a checkout terminal when I go to festivals.
Wish Samsung would adopt the OnePlus' 11.9 version in next iterations. It seems like the perfect size and aspect ratio for the mix of uses for a "big" tablet that's still portable.
