Grapefruit works good as it's skin has pores and a certain thickness. Plus it has rounded edges and is semi squishy. You can do all the things you are doing on flat leather to a grapefruit. It will show your mistakes far better and teach you faster. Your best bet is to find an apprenticeship somewhere at a shop or Studio where a tattooer with experience can pass that knowledge on to you good luck. I tattooed from 1995 till 2012 full-time now I just tattoo from time to time when an old customer wants my style.

I've worried that you decided to stop making videos altogether. I'm also happy to hear you have found a new passion! Your freehand work and mtg alters were always beautiful. It's wonderful you can channel that talent somewhere new. I still remember the interesting tattoo convention video you posted years ago. :) And that phoenix is insane! Have you done a piece on a person yet? Hoping you have an amazing New Year! Your family is in my thoughts.

Sorry to hear about the passing of your mother and the consequences. One of my grandmas doesn't even recognize her own sons anymore, the other one is starting to lose her memory too, getting worse with each month. That is such a difficult disease to deal with. Not just for the person directly suffering from it, but especially for the relatives.
Dimentia is never fun to go through. My wifes grandmother had it creep up on her slowly over the past several years and ended up passing away on my wifes birthday in 2017... My own grandfather had dementia issues but his was very rapid onset going from fully all there one day to fully all gone mentally the next day. I am not sure which type of dementia is harder to deal with All the best to you and your family in the future and congratulations on finding a new hobby in tattooing. I have never (as of yet) found something I would want on my body permanently as a tattoo but I do enjoy looking at all the amazing work people do with tattoo work.

Try tattooing on oranges. Easier to obtain than leather scraps. You'll also be able to tell if you're using too much pressure as those areas will show up as blown out lines.

Hey Girl Painting good to see you back. Yup family, one side of my family tried to rob me blind left right and center 2+ years ago but failed so it's not just you that has family woes. I'm doing a lot of experimentation with miniatures at the moment from using different primers to experimenting with different varnishes (satin, gloss, matt etc) and everything in between. I have loads of armies to paint and your channel is an invaluable reference guide. Interesting you are a dab hand at free hand with the tattoos etc. I sadly cannot do freehand with paint (only digital at best with many attempts) but I'm a dirty, rotten cheat and I'm considering using waterslide decal printer paper for "borrowed" art work (banners etc) and then transferring the image onto my miniatures.
always remember, in art cheating is allowed! in the end, no one is asking how you got to the finished peace. "freehanding" is nothing to hard if you tackle it with the right tools. print your design, and transfer it with some coal paper. that way you just have to paint by numbers ;-)
