    Can’t help feeling that this one is best left until they do a second version that runs with a more up to date display port, reducing glare, increasing FOV, and generally smooth out the edges on the production of the device.

      Does the updated displayport make any difference? It obviously handles the data being transmitted and increasing the FOV would require completely new hardware. Seems like a strawman upgrade.

      @@MrProthallyes actually.
      They can't do full resolution at 90Hz and need to upscale it instead.
      Same is true for basically any other headset with that resolution.
      A new DP version would fix that.

      @@anonym3017 Nvidia and amd would have to support it, though. Also, the display controller would still bottleneck it. Displayport isn't the only bottleneck.

    Hopefully this will be the new standard in terms of size, weight and lenses and the cost will come down over the next few years. Would LOVE to have one of these and nearly went for it but decided on a 4090 instead and a quest 3 (btw loving the mixed reality on that headset, a real nice surprise that was - in terms of fun).

    Another great video Will. I do have a question and maybe this is something you can discuss. I have a setup very similar to yours. Difference is my triples are 3 4k LG C1’s not monitors. I find that VR won’t work with all three screens plugged in. I have to switch off nvidia surround and unplug the tvs. Using a 4090. Any thoughts?
    Btw my PiMax Crystal is a brick 🤦🏻

    • @BryanSawyerRX
      @BryanSawyerRX 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nvidia imposes a limit of 4 monitors allowed at once on their gpu. I’m boot sure why you’re getting it with 3. Maybe surround is taking the 3 and making the combo the “4th”. Therefore preventing VR from working. I have to disable my top monitor to use my vr

    Have you tried other Pancake based lens VR headsets? I'd like to know if the glare is similar or worse in the Bigscreen Beyond headset. I've only tried the Quest 3 and it looks amazing and has pretty much zero god rays anymore compared to Fresnel lens but it does have some glare which people say is a trade off with Pancake lens, but I'd take this glare over the god rays of previous headsets.

    • @pondracek
      @pondracek 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      DSC (Display Stream Compression) is the main reason that Varjo doesn't work with AMD.
      That said, Pimax has also worked with nVidia on out-of-spec bandwidth in addition to DSC, but those framerates aren't strictly guaranteed by every GPU (basically not working on a 3090ti and your mileage varying even with two identical models as it's more hit & miss overclocking than a guarantee).
      I'm personally on the fence. I don't think manufacturers should be banned from trying to solve the problem themselves, but every manufacturer for themselves is objectively worse than standardisation catching up.

    • @Shalashaska111

    In the video, it looks like the refresh rate while playing in VR drops at times, does it?
    They could bump up resolution by means of image compression implemented in hardware for low(er) latency. 75Hz is not good enough.
    On my Valve Index, 120Hz is so much better than 90Hz, let alone compared to lower resolutions.
    Also, non-adjustable IPD is a no-go for me. I'll wait for the Index 2 or any othe newer model that significantly improves upon the Valve Index experience.
    Last but not least, the prescription lenses can cause additional reflections unless they have special coating layers. Try without the prescription lenses and compare to see whether there's a difference in terms of reflections. If there is an observable difference, it can be potentially fixed with better quality lenses.

    Downsampling to 1920 x 1920 sounds a bit silly to me. I don’t understand why they can’t use Display Stream Compression (DSC) to overcome the bandwidth limit on DP 1.4, you can get 120 hz on 2880 x 2880 per eye on the Pimax crystal and that HMD only uses DP 1.4 .

    • @RidgeXR_2
      @RidgeXR_2 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They do use DSC, but the display controller has a bandwidth limit of 8gbps due to it being early days for micro OLED. So they have to both use DSC and upscale.

      @@RidgeXR_2 , I did some research and one VR manufacturer representetive speculated that Big Screen Beyond (BSB) was upscaling because there was a bandwidth limitation when using steamvr as a runtime software. If BSB wanted to work around it they’d need to develop their own runtime software which can turn into a buggy mess like Pimax’s software.

    • @RidgeXR_2
      @RidgeXR_2 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Alm8hoorOW That's not true. The real reason is the simple fact that there isn't really a display controller out there capable of carrying the bandwidth required for 2560@90 for mOLED. So in order to meet the minimum bandwidth requirement, they downscale to 1920 then upscale on the headset, which works pretty well.

    This looks cool for being lightweight, but I've wanted more FOV -- both horizontal and vertical, which everyone forgets about -- since I got my Vive, and instead FOV has reduced on almost all newer headsets since then (I think there are literally about two exceptions, and they didn't increase it much and have other drawbacks; I'm still using the Vive as a result). It's very strange. I can understand it requires more pixels (or spreading out the pixels you have even more) but GPUs are a lot faster than they were when the Vive came out and they still haven't gone in that direction, despite seriously needing to IMO.

    I feel like this is the best place to leave this review, I purchased my BSB for sim racing only, but I’ve come across a very annoying and tedious problem, my fanatec DD2 interferes with the headset, apparently Fanatec sucks at shielding their bases properly and it causes EMI (Electro magnetic interference) wich causes the BSB to not work properly and go into a grey screen, I’ve tried a couple of things to fix it
    Ferrite cores and Ferrite rings 240-31, and no luck the only positive I’ve had from this is the great costumer service experience that Im having with big screen, other than that I may (more than likely) end up returning the BSB because my game is unplayable, I figured I’d leave this here in case anyone else is thinking of buying it for sim racing only, the restocking fee is 20% so quite hefty but understandable.

The resolution and black levels are mind blowing, but at the sacrifice of literally everything else that’s just as important for a good VR headset. The awful lens flare alone is deal breaker for me, let alone face irritation, fogging, limited FOV especially vertical, edge distortion/ blurring, physical pressure on your eye brows and lids and the extreme performance demand on your gpu in full resolution. I wouldn’t recommend it over even a quest 3 for PCVR.

    i know, the knee jerk reaction here is always: "well then its not meant for you, go look somewhere else" but the thing is, there is nothing else like this, but the fixed ipd and no way to adjust it, is just the nogo because i want to share this headset with my wife, and since i have 67mm and she has 56, the difference is just to big. thus the headset is out. but besides that, THIS is the headset i would wanna have, because all the pros that are important to me, are there, and the downsides of this one are the ones, i care the least about. only pain is: no inside tracking, would mean another 600 bucks for controllers and basestations.. but the vr market these days is only: enthusiast 1600+ dollar setups, or midrange standalone hardware for the casual.. theres nothing current gen in between and thats the market iam in for. HP is pulling out, pico lay offs. valve deckard silence for 4 years.. its not looking good for 800-1100 dollar pcvr hardware.. and when it comes to the question in the video "if this is the right headset for you?" i can only answer, from everything ive read an seen so far, there is no headset right for me.. what i want:
    -display port connection, so no compression at all
    Manual IPD adjustment (no automatic, unecessary extra cost for minimal comfort gain, i can do that myself)
    -2560x2560 res minimum, so that theres no real screendoor effect
    -105+ degree FOV
    -Eye tracking and Fovated rendering
    -Pancake lenses on quest 3 levels
    -oled would be nice, otherwise local dimming lc display
    -inside out tracking and controllers included on quest 3 level of tracking quality
    i dont need any standalone hardware, its just dead weight and additional cost for pcvr
    all the other downsides and problems, like mura, goodrays, chromatic abberation is something i can live with
    so all that, for around 1.000 bucks, which is around twice the price of the quest 3, which has standalone hardware

    There is no possible way that I would buy any headset that does not have an adequate sound solution. If you have ever tried a Valve Index, HP Reverb G2, or Pimax KDMAS on their headsets, then you understand. You see, the thing is that they are trying to sell you a device that is supposed to mimic a theater scenario for watching movies; but I always watch movies with sound. I always play games with sound too. And one thing I don't want to do is put on headphones or wear earbuds. The sound solution on the Valve, HP, and Pimax headsets are off-ear, part of the headset, and sound incredible.
    Additionally, the Big Screen Beyond has big screen glare, and when you begin your session it also has big screen foggy lenses until the device warms up, and it also has no pass-through at all.
    This is a Big pass for me. You can't even share the thing with friends because it requires a custom face pad *ONLY* for you. I wouldn't buy this thing for $50.
