Getting Rid of Link Compression - In this video I will show you 2 simple steps for getting your Quest 3 to look amazing for iRacing when using a Link cable. It will look night and day from the default settings and it will shock you on how good it looks! Of course this improvement will work for any PCVR gaming you want to do with the Quest 3 but my main use for it is Sim Racing.

    When I got my 4080 at the beginning of the year, I ramped up the refresh rate to 90 Hz, just _because I could_. Now I got my Quest 3, I had to reduce the PD in ACC from 160 to 140 so the GPU would have enough headroom again.
    Your video made me think whether I really need 90 Hz. Turns out: No, 72 Hz is absolutely fine in both ACC and DR2. Instead I could boost the quality again - nice. Thanks mate!

    You should also set the fov tangent to 0.8,0.8 for a frame boost, turn off ASW to make sure you aren't actually dropping to half the frames. It's also worth upping the encode resolution to 4128. Also in iracing you need to set the dynamic lod to match your fps target otherwise it won't kick in to maintain your frame rate. With the default 60 it'll never kick in until you drop a lot. I have mine set to cars only, and thst massive helps on race starts.

      0.8 is out of the viewing range for most people. And 0.3 in the helmet view only cuts out the black bars at the top and bottom anyway. Why let the GPU calculate black bars... But you can now set the SuperSampling to 2! You can try this out live in the Oculus Link home screen without reconnecting. Set the first line (debug tool) from 0 to 2 and pay attention to the grid. Game changer...

Basically, the cable will either register correctly and work, or it won't. I don't believe some cables will work better than others and deliver any different quality if they register with the Oculus software as the correct required cable.

I use the Link settings mentioned in this video, also I set the FOV Tangent Multiplier to 0.85/0.70. PD in ACC is set to 160% and DLSS activated. Even a copper quest link may not be powerful enough to charge and play so you'll need to use a battery strap or go between wired in a 45w+ power brick and wireless or be ok with around 30 minutes to an hour of gameplay. • @thecasualracinggamer
      @thecasualracinggamer  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So not sure about Ryzen CPUs as I have always used Intel, but iRacing is pretty heavy on CPU, too. A 3060 laptop GPU is also going to be less powerful than if it was a desktop version of it. You probably won't be able to really take full advantage of what the headset can offer but you might be able to still enjoy it. You will need to play with the settings in order to see what your system can handle. I would definitely run it at 72Hz and then play with the resolution. Turn everything in iRacing down that has no effect on the race stuff itself. Then you can see if maybe you can boost the bitrate. The thing with the Quest 3 is, if you can not run it at a certain level, you will suffer from compression and also flickering if the resolution is too low.

The FPS is honestly the biggest thing for me. Currently run iracing extremely smoothly at 100 FPS, should I be expecting a considerable/any drop in FPS with VR? • @thecasualracinggamer
      @thecasualracinggamer  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @brandongass80 FPS on flat screen is going to be way different than in VR as VR is way more demanding and needs to render the picture 2x. You set the fps in the Oculus app. If you run at 72Hz, it will give you the best chance to run smooth. Dropping just a couple frames in VR has a huge impact and feels way different than if you drop some frames on a flat screen. You want to get all your settings to the point where you can just run smooth without any dropped frames, which might come at the sacrifice of clarity and sharpness.

      Are you saying VD looks and runs better than using a link cable with pumped up settings? Are you using a dedicated router for VR? I believe to get iRacing to work via VD, you need to run it through Steam, right? I don't play iRacing through Steam.

      If you use Airlink, you have to keep it at zero. Only change if using a
      Link cable. If 500 gives you lag, then your PC is not powerful enough to run that setting number. Lower it till things are smooth.
