    "If you set SteamVR to render around 3600x3600 per eye, the difference between 75Hz and 90Hz should be imperceptible in almost every VR experience. 3600x3600 at 75Hz is manageable, but by default, we do not render at 3600x3600 at 90Hz in SteamVR as it's extremely performance intensive (needs an RTX 4080 or better)." - Bigscreen

    That's an interesting point about the FOV and the OLED screen. Haven't received mine, partly because I'm from EU so gotta wait, but Beatsaber is my most played VR game and I can imagine how it could feel just like there was no limited FOV from the headset. Obviously not everything could take advantage of this idea for the Beyond while also thinking of a future with all headsets being OLED, but some applications/games should definitely consider making parts of them more immersive by having pure black edges/backgrounds.

      Longer than 3 months, i think. I bought it in late August, and only got the email to send in my facial scan a week ago. From others' anecdotes, it'll still take a few weeks, maybe even 2 months for the unit to be manufactured and shipped to me. The Beyond has only gotten more and more popular as more videos have come out. The manufacturing admittedly has gotten faster with time, but still...

    My face scan came in at 66mm IPD. Sounded too wide, went to an optometrist and they measured 62.5. Mine is arriving tomorrow, so hopefully the 62 they ended up configuring is good.

    I absolutely love what Bigscreen did as far as custom tailored HMD that's super light weight. I'm a little bummed about all the compromises though.
    I still feel like we're in generation 1 of VR because for every advancement that's made, I feel like there are still tradeoffs that even the Rift CV1 didn't have. Looking forward to the first headset that combines EVERY improvement simultaneously as well as introducing something new. That will be the true second generation of VR.
    Oculus/Meta has always had the most comfortable optics for me personally so I'm kind of bummed they're out of the PC market and probably won't have such an ergonomic headset like this in a long time. Here's hoping other companies get better optical ergonomics.

    the beyond isnt even about the formfactor for me. its the combination of the resolution, paired with micro oled and okay fov. but since you cant adjust the ipd, i couldnt share it with my wife (56mm vs 64mm ipd) we would need 2, just to play seperate (we have no dedicated room and not alot of space, so beeing watched for hazards like the dog and sloping roof makes playing under supervision almost necesarry) and thats just overkill. but theres nothing like that out there and seeing how the vr market develops, you can bet that it wont happen for a while. its all about standalone and people buying that, dont care about that

    • @dogearooski

  • @RabbitConfirmed
    @RabbitConfirmed 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    The fact that you're not able to adjust the IPD is a big L in my book.
    Yea might be that it makes it slightly lighter, but Im sure someone could've come up with a clever design, to at least be able to adjust it a tiny bit.

    • @cbutters
      @cbutters  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree... I don't know how the internals are set up, but even if it was a single lead screw that you had to use a torx bit to adjust on the side; could have been worth the extra weight. I think the same goes for the screen/optics.. you could go slightly bigger and alleviate a lot of lens issues and get a bit better FOV by doing so. (I understand that availablility of panels was a big factor for what we DO get on the BSB though.

    • @InvernessMoon
      @InvernessMoon 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You don't need to adjust the IPD because the face scan ensures they send you a unit with a matching IPD.

    • @cbutters
      @cbutters  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @InvernessMoon it doesn't "ensure" because they sent me one 2 sizes off what I needed after working with them and them having me measure directly. Also it's possible to have ipd "between" sizes. I'm 61.5 for example. Sub mm adjustments would help fine tune for sure.

  • @thatstokedgamer
    @thatstokedgamer 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yeeeah. I think I need 1mm smaller. I was originally at 67. I switched it to 66 and it's blurry in the middle so I guess I really should've gone down 2mm but you never really know until you get it.

  • @alkeryn1700
    @alkeryn1700 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    it would be nice if there was a screw you could turn manualy to shift it by just a few mm.

  • @Danielle-s5q
    @Danielle-s5q 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The small sweet spot and small FOV is a big no to me. Most people do more than play in dark scenes. Even with proper IPD fit, it still seems like a step backwards for the sake of weight. I appreciate what BSB is trying to do but I think they overoptimized for weight at the expense of eye comfort and IPD adjustibility.

  • @DarshanShankar
    @DarshanShankar 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    One other little reason regarding why FOV "feels" larger than it is. Your FOV is noticeably larger when you *don't* look at the edges. When you look straight ahead, your eyes will get to see a larger HFOV. Just how the eye rotation / optical path works.

    I have ordered mine, and estimated to arrive in January. What is the best way to measure IPD? I wonder if it is worth going to an optician to get the most accurate measurement?

    • @cbutters
      @cbutters  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      IPD numbers are literally "millimeters between pupil" so if you have a pair of calipers or something and don't have shaky hands and won't stab yourself, you can use anything to measure it. I used some basic measuring calipers in the mirror in front of myself and it was spot on for what the size ended up working for me on my beyond.

    • @IllIlIIllIlIl
      @IllIlIIllIlIl 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cbutters I wouldn't recommend this approach though I can see it might work.
      The optimal IPD to use is the so-called "far-IPD", which is the IPD when you're focusing on something in the distance. If you measure in a mirror you'll have a hard time measuring the far-IPD, and even disregarding that factor, manually measuring with calipers will be hard to get exactly correct. For the BSB, every millimeter matters, and manually measuring like this will likely have an error of at least .+- 1mm

    So far I am having a horrible experience my ipd scan said to get a 67 but on index i always used 66.4 and on recommendations ordered 66 but i probably need a 67 as even glancing very slightly to the edge it becomes a blurry mess. Glare is also really bad it feels like the lenses get smudged it's rather annoying and even at 100% fan headset gets hot. So i thought maybe i would return it but guess what there is a $200 "restocking fee" so yeah...brightness is also not the best and going past 100% persistence is horrible.
