It’s an uncomfortable discussion for the anti-immigrant grifters like Farage because the discussion inevitably leads to questioning why our society has such a huge gulf in wealth in contrast with levels of pay and taxation for the majority of the population. There’s only one section of society that have the ability to create and influence such a disproportionate wealth gap and it’s certainly not the immigrant population. Aslo Olsa Socialist left 😂 The same could be said for the right; all we hear is immigration and the evils that it creates. And yet, the same energy wasn’t applied to the government in bailing out the criminal bankers in the 2008 financial crash. 642,000 people migrated to the UK last year, while 402,000 emigrated, which is 240,000 people net. Are you telling me that’s putting a strain on our economy? The fifth largest in the world? Immigration isn’t putting a strain on British workers; austerity measures implemented by the Tory government are putting a strain on Britain.
The worst part is that all of them made some sense: 1. Quality of immigration is important, 2. Corruption should be tackled and banker bonuses should be kept in check, 3. Well, here's Russell's argument that I understood from this debate. 1) The services like NHS, Education etc should be manned adequately for such big but also prosperous country, like Britain; 2) These services are being underfinanced, especially after the crisis of 2008; 3) The fact that there is more demand for these services, than supply, the shortage appears and people feel that it is due to immigration; 4) However, makes an argument Russel, if there was enough funding, there would have been enough of these services for everyone, so take the money from the big fat cats in the City. P.S. As a Bulgarian immigrant in the UK, I cannot stress strongly enough the inadequacy of Mr. Brand to present ANY logic or ANY value to the debtate whatsoever. Unfortunately (for me), Mr. Farage makes sense on many levels. However, I would like to use the attention you have given me to remind you that a proper debator would eventually defeat Mr. Farage's arguments. The truth is, that people like me: young, healthy, educated and hard working immigrants are a big part of what keeps the UK a growing world power. I work for a company that exports very high value products and my job is such that no British engineer wants to do. You kick me out, you lose the #20k per year that I pay in taxes, so that some UKIP voter could get pissed in a pub in 11AM, on a working day.
LordPingas Why would it? You put a hard day's work consistently for years over years? You use some of your free time to give your career that extra boost? If so, you are a hard-worker, regardless of your nationality. I hope what I wrote previously did not imply that I consider only immigrants to be hard-workers. I do not mean that and I think it should take some subjective perception to derive this meaning.
LordPingas Most southern Europeans are and the proof is in the pudding: UK - a large, successful economy. World leaders in technology and culture. Italy? Spain? Greece? Bulgaria? Portugal? ... However, hanging out in pubs, I hear people's opinions and my sample shows a clear affinity for the unemployed to blame other peoples for their situation: their job is "stolen". Let me ask this: If someone comes all the way from the other side of Europe, he does not speak the local language, he does not have savings, he does not have a home and he does not have connections - if that person takes "your" job, doesn't it mean that you don't really want it in the first place? Another question: If I pay 20k GBP of tax in all it's forms and shapes but I don't get anything in return (our company exports products outside of the UK) - who benefits from this tax? (the answer is somewhere in question one) If house prices go up because of immigrants, who benefits? The immigrant who has no house or the local population = the vast majority of house owners. And so on and so forth...

Instead of making any actual arguments, Brand just goes back to his crowd-pleasing 'blame the rich' populism. Sycophantic sophists doing what they do best.
Thomas Edgerley But that's what it all comes down to in the end, people with money have the power to make the lives of the poor better, but instead they blame immigrants for sucking the wealth out of our country. Look at countries like Denmark, the highest taxes in the world yet small businesses thrive, because government regulation prevents huge monopolies from exploiting workers for profit. The reality that no one wants to realise is that the rich don't give a shit about the poor; the born rich stay rich and the born poor generally stay poor. Our system works for the few, not the majority. Do you call that a Great British Democracy?

Russell brand is basically saying aim higher, I get that but at the same time the other guy is right in saying that the working class has been hit the hardest by immigration.
You’re right, therein lies the problem with contemporary politics. Two schools of thought in this video, both with (I’m hoping) sincere motives, yet too polarised to compromise. There is a gigantic disillusioned centre ground in politics at present that’s been greatly exacerbated by Brexit and it’s incumbent issues: who is the centrist to align with?
5:00 he hasn't beaten addiction and the stress of being a "proper" minister of government may lead him back too drugs... I wouldn't blame someone who doesn't go to parliament. Russell didn't attack
Exactly. Someone gets it. Moreover- you can’t tell every citizen who criticises a member of the parliament to stand for parliament themselves. The fact that we’re at paying citizens alone qualifies us to hold those we voted for to account.
Russell totally failed in this talk... he has a convincing way of speaking and a bit of an interesting persona (at least to the younger generation), but when you pull all that away, you're left with a bumbling buffoon... he didn't realistically address any of the issues Farage brought up... The popular idea going around is that immigration is infinitely good (no matter how you go about it) and if you want to so much as put some controls on it, you're seen as racist or far-right... what a load of bollocks. Europe will feel it in a decades time, I'm sure of it.
+Freeman I think his serious side is not what people want to see so it must be hard to use his reputation to open doors for himself but then at the same time go all serious (jokiness makes things digestible for a lot of regular working class folk but doesn't tend to illicit respect at the same time). Borders are artificial constructs from times when ordinary people first lost their "power" to centralisation of it in the hand of kings and queens and thus we've been "ruled" over ever since. People should be able to go wherever the hell we like on a planet that is all of ours. Should we get free handouts from other people, no of course not. But to not have freedom to move in the first place, that's no person/countries right to prevent. That is why it IS politically to the right to suggest controlling it.
That would be great but the fact remains that we still have these borders and these kingdoms... unless they are unanimously abolished or something, the governments are expected to do good by their people, of which uncontrolled mass migration isn't one of them... as much as the left (and I don't identify as rightist by the way) would like a multicultural paradise, it doesn't always work out... especially if the culture you're importing has radically different values to your own.
Freeman I agree that its a problem for integration, especially those cultures that seem 100-200 years behind the (western) times. The view / treatment of women in those types of societies springs to mind. I just things there's a better solution but my own opinion is that you can't solve this problem when the way we set up our society facilities the conditions for mass inequality in the first place - leading to, amongst other things (and understandably in my view) to huge numbers of people thinking there's a better life on offer by coming to the UK. So, I just don't think it will ever go away, either legal immigration or the illegal type even if we did "control" those aspects that we can [control].
+Freeman Farage has a German wife and four children - and he talks about overcrowding. What if everyone had a foreign wife and four children - what would the population of the UK be then in ten years?
That's the difference when a person Who knows economics and a person Who doesn't Talk about politics. The celebrities tend to look stupid in these discussions.

It amazes me people still fall for the idea immigrants are to blame while still believing in a system of free market capitalism.

Well, here's Russell's argument that I understood from this debate.
1) The services like NHS, Education etc should be manned adequately for such big but also prosperous country, like Britain;
2) These services are being underfinanced, especially after the crisis of 2008;
3) The fact that there is more demand for these services, than supply, the shortage appears and people feel that it is due to immigration;
4) However, makes an argument Russel, if there was enough funding, there would have been enough of these services for everyone, so take the money from the big fat cats in the City.
P.S. I think that, despite the valid points that Russell made, exponential immigration of 2000s would have made an average folk to feel the stretching and the unavailability of the services named above regardless of the amount of money made available for them.

Todor Kolev I'm young, healthy, educated and hardworking, but I'm British. I guess that means I'm no longer entitled to "hard worker" status.
Todor Kolev I know you weren't. I was just making a sarcastic nod to the whole cultural misconception that British people are lazy.
(the answer is somewhere in question one)
If house prices go up because of immigrants, who benefits? The immigrant who has no house or the local population = the vast majority of house owners.
And so on and so forth...

Are you joking? There is now a majority of people who want the UK to rejoin the EU because they woke up and realized that immigrants aren’t the problem, it’s the wealthy ruling elite!
Instead of making any actual arguments, Brand just goes back to his crowd-pleasing 'blame the rich' populism. Sycophantic sophists doing what they do best.
What?
Allowing his opposite to make a point.
***** The born poor have great opportunities to become rich. The only people stopping a young kid from a council estate doing well in school, going to university and getting rich and the kids themselves and their parents. Is that not what fairness is, opportunities for all? Surely its less fair to artificially balance people's wealth in a way that throws money at people who haven't earned it?
Keri Naidoo It's a false dichotomy to say that the problem is either big business or immigration, it happens to be a mixture of the two. My comment is talking about Brands total diversion from the question.
Russell Brand is the kind of man who speaks very strongly of things he knows nothing about.
Even in his book, "The stock market is a lot of bollocks!"... Following page; "I don't actually know anything about the stock market"...
His channel is the same- full of preachy, wordy bollocks with no gravitas or feasible soutions, and the minute someone tells him to go put his mouth where his money is and actually enter the political arena and stand he pulls out the old "I ain't doing it, I’m just a comedian me, mate" or "nah I'd become one of 'em" in his mockney accent. His channel isn't about sincerely helping people it's about getting patted on the back and staying in the spotlight.
@@EvilKris Its his hypocrisy that irritates me more than anything. During that full interview he criticised everyone there for having money, ignoring the fact that he himself was by far the richest man at the table.

Brand isn't a smart guy. He uses big words out of context which can only mean he thinks he's a lot smarter than he is, much like his supporters. Pick an interview and have a dictionary to hand and you will see what utter nonsense he talks.
james lloyd He isn't smart? What would you define as smart? Writing a book? Making films? Building a community following of millions of TH-cam? Or do you define smart as speaking in a posh accent and being mean to everybody.
No, I would define smart as having a higher than average intelligence.
There might be some correlation between youtube followers and intelligence but I'll leave you to apply the logic to that one.
Don't bother me with stupid comments like this again.
james lloyd What method are you applying to measure Russell's intelligence? The old dictionary technique you mentioned? Sounds revolutionary. No pun intended.
james lloyd If you need a dictionary to understand what he's saying then I suggest the problem is you have a low intellect and not that he uses big words.
You think I have sat there deciphering what he says with a dictionary? It was a suggestion to people like you as it might open up your eyes to how much of a moron he is. I know enough of the words he uses to know he uses them out of context which means neither he nor his followers understand them. He works on the principle of "bullshit baffles brains" and its working like a charm.
If you believe he's a smart guy then I feel sorry for you. Outside of his little cult following he's ridiculed the world over.
You know he's in business with the people he claims to detest right? Companies house will tell you all you need to know. I'll even give you a reg number of one of his companies to get you started - 06843671. If you understand company structure you will see he is quite legally reducing his tax liability. Nothing wrong with that but it does make him an almighty hypocrite. Have a look and come back to me when you realise your idol is a phoney. It might take a while as he has fingers in many pies besides this one. As a percentage of income, I pay more tax than he does. Forgive me for thinking that the guy is a complete tosspot.

Farage - right about immigration, or at least they could spend on other improvements instead of WELFARE.
Brand - right about the root of the problem which is the BANKS
The difference however is that your country operates democratically and each banker, just like each builder only accounts for one single vote next national election. Make sure you vote for the populist right wing, Britain, whichever option you have. Labor and Tory are just left and right wing globalism. Nationalism seeks to strengthen the population with a set of cultures and beliefs everyone can agree upon; a unifying national identity.
