What a beautiful little camper, great job with the review.
Regardless of the market we are in there's no way that thing is worth $60,000 Plus... seriously the cabinets don't even have doors (netting). We're getting to the point where there will always be people with the money to spend on something like this, but it puts it Out Of Reach for the average person and it shouldn't be. It's a tow behind tiny home. I have an awesome toy hauler that weighs just a little more and can do more for 1/3rd the cost. My sweet truck and camper combined didn't even cost that much. Crazy...

Airstream holds its value. The used Basecamp models are going for more than the REI badge. Don't get me started on the bigger models. You are buying RV history when you buy a Airstream.

    • @adam-newbloom
      @adam-newbloom ปีที่แล้ว +2

I have a 2017 f150 limited towing a coachman freedom express toy hauler.
While I understand holding value (I have toys that do that as well) the upfront cost is too much (in my opinion) for what you get. I really like airstream and I understand their material are excellent... 60k for a "real towable " is understandable. For this smaller more limited towable seems excessive. It really comes down to how you choose to spend your money. I have a grandsport 2018 corvette that some might say isn't worth the money.

Lol you’d be incredibly mistaken. Some people are willing to pay extra, over the long term airstreams are in fact cheaper. While the shit box on wheels is cheaper it’s also got a life of 15-20 years MAX, box on wheels will also lose 75% of its value in 10 years, airstream will lose 20%. Smart people who understand what they’re investing in will buy the airstreams

I'm a bit irritated at Airstream regarding the Basecamp. I shopped the 16x in 2019 and nearly pulled the trigger. At that time the 16x was $39-$42K depending on dealers and to me well worth that money. 2020 happened and they became unobtanium for awhile like most RVs so needless to say I never got it and went with something else. Since then I have watched the various Basecamp models prices climb to astronomically high prices for what you get. Don't get me wrong, it's a good trailer, clever and well built. Airstream does indeed offer a step up in quality. But the refinements since the return of the model in 2018 just don't equal $63K for me. And I am willing to and will shell out for an Airstream in the future. For comparison sake one can get nearly the same size and functionality in a Rockwood Geo pro 15TB, and I think the quality is on par. Admittedly you do lose a few cool things like the cargo door and that Airstream styling but if it's function over form one is after you can have it there for under $40K.

I agree with Adam. $63,000; over priced. You could rent a luxurious RV for years from Rvzy, Outdoorsy, etc for years! And also have it delivered if need be. The best part of renting an RV is you walk away when the camping trip is over!
    No maintenance and no headaches!

It's one of my fave's although at the price I'll probably never buy one. Well maybe used someday if we want to tow behind our truck camper!? I love some of the things they are including on there like the water heater, combined gray/black tanks, 200 ah lithium and solar panels. The option to have a waterless compost toilet is great.
Last year we rebuilt an old truck camper manufactured sometime around 1967 and just used it a few weekends this past fall and winter. We upgraded our truck to a 3/4 ton to safely haul it and I'm planning on the longest trip yet to go to Great Smokey Mountain NP with our daughter later this month. Our rebuilt version of this camper weighs about 1500 lbs before its loaded for a trip with food, clothes and such. When we upgrade to a camper with a inside shower and other niceties I may want to stay with one that fits with a 3/4 ton (i.e. Northstar Liberty or Lance 850) then we can either keep our current truck or a different 3/4 ton or go to a one-ton and haul a trailer for more toys and/or family and friends. Time will tell.
Like you spoke about in your more recent videos, a small multi-purpose cargo trailer would be the best option. We have things like a quad, kayaks, and bikes we could take with us on some trips. I think one of the best choices available now is the InTech Flyer series. Happy hunting.

I could afford one using my "out of town" corporate allowance I have saved by sleeping in my car/shared Airbnbs. I was thinking if I buy one I would definitely have one of those 3kW wood stoves installed. If you find a water source, propane would be the next limiting factor because by the time you heat the trailer, water, and cook in it you will be going through a tank a week.

Thanks for the segment. You two always have something worth sharing to share. It's just strange to me that so many trailer manufacturers that offer a "offroad" package, just lift the trailer's clearance height. Leaving the same suspension and axle, as the non lifted and non offroad version, really is missing the mark. A few manufacturers offer independent suspension. Hopefully more will start to offer that as well. Safe travels Russo's.

They talk about how the lines and tanks are inside the insulated space and such, but depending on your specific "Canadian winter" YMMV. Some parts of Canada rarely see 0F while others have -40 as a given and I think you would have a hard time finding ANY trailer that withstands such cold.

But you aren't in nature when in a hotel, at least not one for $100. It's probably not for the occasional outdoor tripper, but rather people that go on trips regularly. I calculated that I'd need to use it for 5 years, 450 nights (or about 6 mo) to equal an ok hotel in terms of cost, but then you aren't in nature. These can go off road into beautiful areas, maybe not as well as a smaller tear-drop, but they are build for this.

What a fussy bed setup. The window shades look frumpy. Other than the relatively high ceiling, I don't see a reason to consider this expensive trailer in this class.

And for that kind of money, you can have ... where shall we begin? Very inefficient use of resources, including thermal conductivity through all that aluminum. Oh, and be sure to ask what the average repair bill is on one of those curved aluminum panels after it's had a nice dent from a line drive.

Way too expensive! Bed looks very uncomfortable. My guess is Airstream is banking on people not having to buy new truck to pull it. There are other small campers that are light weight so you can pull with what you have, they are very nice and way less money.

I personally would not buy a trailer for that price . I prefer something more affordable . And am sure there are others out there that feel the same way .Those are nice but way out of my price range .

At least it will be easy to tell at the campground who has more money than brains. 😂 I’m still waiting for the tipping point where manufacturers (RVs, cars, trucks) where they make things so expensive people can no longer afford their products.

There is going to be an RV market crash soon. The pandemic is over. Soon there will be a glut of used RV's (lightly used by people who don't really like camping, they were just bored during the pandemic). Then there will be a glut of new RV's because everyone is buying used. These prices are not sustainable.
