Hey Cass, you continue to be a major inspiration for my 18 year old daughter, who wants to get some sort of vehicle and go boondocking beginning in the summer when she is 20. Nothing beats the feel of hot water, even if it’s just a little bit after a hot, dusty day or a cold day to warm the bone’s, thank you for sharing Cass and have a great week.
An additional tip that I use, is to use ivory bar soap which is 100% biodegradable and eco-friendly (yeah I know who knew) with a vented soap case similar to the DecorRack 3 or the PORTINEER Carry-Dri MAX, and sit it on your Command Hook shelf. Ivory soap leaves no film and rinses off faster with less water than any other soap especially liquid soaps.
@@TailsofWanderlust the coolest thing that I didn't mention above is that besides being biodegradable it also was designed to float it floats unlike any other bar soaps and so that means that if you want to go to a pond to wash off and you worry about dropping your soap you don't have to you get wet soap up drop your soap and rinse and then put it away and whatever container and take it back to the camper. I really interesting thing to check out is the history of Ivory soap and you can find all that stuff out. It's been around since before I was born.
So true when you're feeling dirty, even a minute-long hot shower is glorious! My hair is finally transitioning now too. I literally just washed my hair after a week in my Airstream ~ perfect timing for my family reunion in Asheville tomorrow, lol. Great content as always~ cheers.
Good tips, being a male and short hair, I have found depending upon my activities for the day I don't always have to shower every day. However I am much more comfortable washing my hair at least every 2 days. so instead of using the shower I'll use a bucket and heating the water on the stove in a pan mix really hot water with some cold to get the temp right, once the water is in the bucket I'll dunk my head get wet, shampoo, dunk to rinse a couple of times and done. I might use a gallon or so. and feel great afterward for a much more comfortable sleep. Conserving water that way I can boondock a lot longer. I also carry anywhere from 7 to 21 extra gallons of water that I use for drinking or cooking. The water in the trailer tank is used for the toilet or outside shower or rinse in the sink. I try to limit what goes into the combo grey and black tank. However when ending my boondocking time I'll use any left over fresh water I might have to help flush out the gray/blank tank when dumping. Love your tip about heating the water for only 15 min or so and using only the hot. That has worked very well for me in my Basecamp 16X. I really love my Basecamp. I'm continually amazed at how comfortable I am in it. Thanks for all you do to promote the RV lifestyle whether it's full time or just weekends your tips are great!
Thank you for your great videos! Your 4Runner build link really helped me with my decision for my build. The company you used was real helpful when I talk to them. Thank you for your great attention to detail and honesty in the videos.
Turkish towels will get more and more absorbent the more you wash them! There are also many varieties on Amazon and some are way thinner and less absorbent and some are thicker and very absorbent, but still dry super quickly! Don’t give up on them! They improve with time, unlike most things lol 😉
That’s nice being able to stand up straight. I’m 5’10” and can’t stand up straight in my camper. I’m going to look at that showerhead also. That’s pretty slick.
I have one of those hair towels too, it’s called a twisty towel! And it’s really so much better for your hair to wash it less. I’ll have to try one of those military showers to conserve water! 😉
I think you've done very well and accommodate your needs based on what you have in reserve. Those are excellent suggestions, many I utilize. As far as how you look...you look fabulous! I would not worry one tiny bit about your hair as it looks like it's washed everyday so obviously your hair has adjusted to your routine. Be well and stay safe!
I looked into it, but the drain drops directly into the tank, so there is no room to install one. It would take a lot of modification to make that work.
You have a great problem-solving mind. Very impressive. I found that LLBean's organic textured cotton bath towel dries me off very well despite a rather flat weave and the towel itself dried quickly. You might give it a try.
We just got towels from IKEA. $4 for a thinner towels with a tab for hanging. They dry you off great and take up very little room. We bought the smaller hand towel to use for drying off the walls in our wet bath. Our Fulltimer hack!
Were getting a BC 16 the shower is the same as a submarine I served on, showered the same way, great job making it work for you and your fur family great vid
I keep coming back to this video for your tips, very helpful. I got a couple of months now as a park host now at this site where my showers are pretty much a bucket and about 1/2 gallon of water every day like our ancestors did. Currently fantasizing about a 16 foot base camp to drag around with my 3/4 ton Chevy express van. :)
I found Turkish towels are the best. They dry quickly. They aren’t as soft at first. I actually recommend washing them at the laundry mat with a pair of shoes (or something that is going to beat them up a bit) I have 2 and after washing them a couple of times- I actually enjoy them. I find terrycloth towels now feel weird when drying off! Microfiber towels are also a nice way to have a softer feel but quicker drying. Both of these towels pack down really small.
I am using microfiber towels now as they dry VERY quickly, esp. in the sun, but they kind of drag across my skin compared to regular house towels. That's a trade off I'm willing to make for a clean dry trailer after a shower. No mildew! I will have to try the dribble shower technique. My navy shower can always use another shortcut to save even more water. You are right in that a camp shower can make you feel great after a day's dirt and grime. Comforts that we take for granted at home can seem special when camping.
We have the microfiber towels for our wet bath. I don’t love them yet they do remove the water quickly and they do dry quickly. They aren’t luxurious such as the Turkish towel but the trade off is well worth it for me. The regular towels are simply too big & bulky when one has a wet bath. Good video.
I'm an evening shower taker too. After the shower I take my towel and up the the truck cab. The towel hangs over the steering wheel and seat back/ Its always dry the next morning.
Perhaps I missed it, but how did you install the shutoff valve? I think that is an absolute must in a smaller camper with a shower like this, and I'd love to know what that is and how you did it!
I attached it right below the shower head. So when screwing in the new shower head, just put the shut off valve on first. Here’s the parts: (#4) tailsofwanderlust.com/2020/02/04/10-best-airstream-basecamp-rv-accessories-for-under-25/
Great video. We travel in a t@b 400 w/wetbath and your ideas/techniques are spot on. We do have a diff setup; our shower curtain is almost 360 so no splatter on the wall. Our hot water is on demand so it can handle two of us showering, but we use the dribble technique. For our shampoo etc., we have several GoToob tubes with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc. on a cord hung in the shower. For t of us, we normally refill them once a week. Once we are on the road it takes 2-3 days to get into RV living and we adjust to quick showers. Safe travels
Hi Cass! I had a question for switching out the shower head. Did you keep the original hose that came with the airstream? I have an international with a wet bath and it has the shower/faucet combination (my hose is inside the fiberglass). I've tried a couple of different heads with no luck. Looking into the specs the Marine Ambassador assembly is 15/1 M metric which I can't find much information on. Did you have those same issues?
I changed out the hose to the one that came with the showerhead. It was an easy plug and play using plumbing tape. I’m not sure about the specs like you mention thou. I just put the same showerhead in my new truck camper and was able to use the old hose so I’d check that first
One advantage of having the toilet in the shower is that if your too tall to stand up then you can just sit and shower. I've heard that washing your hair everyday isn't good for it. Congratulations on the sponsor! P.S. Always wash you face before your butt.🤣
That ending was perfect! Command hooks seem to be a real life saver I think I'll try them out more. How do you shave in that small space? Thank you Tails of Wanderlust!!
Showering like the Japanese would probably be helpful here. That's basically what you're doing anyway. Just get a bucket for the beginning, soap up, then rinse off with whatever's in the bucket or use the shower head.
I am an avid user of Norwex products, I use them in my Basecamp and one of the best things is they dry super fast and never smell, i use it to wipe down everything after my shower and then just hang them up from their tabs on the corners and they dry, They are microfiber but it is a different microfiber than the ones you buy elsewhere. I wish I could give you a test towel and cloth, Thanks for the video
I just don't understand how cheaper Rvs have a shower miser, which recirculates the water back to your holding tanks while you get the right water temp, and Airstream does not. I'm sure the inventor of the shower miser would love to have this in every Rv. I love the concept.
Have been waiting for this video since I started watching your videos!! My dad has a camper van that has a very small wet bath and it does have a shower but it is almost not usable. There is a window so you can take the shower outside which I have actually used once to rinse off after swimming in the sea but I don't know how you would shower inside seriously, it is much more narrow than your wet bath for sure ;) But the wet cloth thing is actually a good trick I could use there.
Love you and your vid. Thanks for sharing AND saving me because now i know for SURE i will not get a wet bath or anything with a combination black/grey tank. That will be my no no list lol. 😊
What you described is called by Navy and Coast Guard vets a Sea Shower. You only get x amount of time and x amount of water so every shower head is equipped like you have yours. Get wet, shut off shower, soap up, rinse off, done.
I've been following you! Thanks for making these very helpful videos. We're considering purchasing a 20X BC and this video is handy. I have very long hair and I love my showers so this will take some getting used to. I even asked a question in one of the FB groups I'm on regarding the one sink in the BC.....what?! where do I wash my face and brush my teeth?! LOL!! But I think you've sold your BC now.... Anyway, happy travels!
Good luck on the search! I got used to having just the one sink very quickly. It actually felt very normal for that, and never ended up missing a bathroom sink. But it all does take getting used to.
Helpful video, thanks. I’ve been seriously considering basecamp but surprised at only having black/grey combo. The basic unit seems as off-road off-grid capable as any, but black water in those environments is the worse option. Ugh. Not very thoughtful design for the expense.
I think your way so cool! Big fan. One day I hope to get a basecamp like yours for causal use. Thank you for sharing. Love it. I heard a lady once say that using a sarong as a towel works great because it dry's quickly. Also, I had thoughts on putting a vent in the shower door, for heat and moisture. Not sure what you think about that. Have a great weekend.
Interesting on the sarong, thanks for sharing. There is a small door that opens to the outside, and I'll leave that or the rooftop fan cracked to let the heat/moisture out.
I found the drain in the shower (BC16) to be very slow draining and the water builds up, it that right? Also changing out the shower head and valve do you just need plumbers tape? I use puppy pee pads on the floor as a floor mat/rug, and then throw it away after the shower process, they work great at campground showers too.
As long as I keep the drain strainer clean, I haven't had an issue with it being slow draining. Do you have a clog somewhere in the drain? And yes, plumbers tape and you will need to swap out screws so a screw driver or drill.
Jasper was really interested in this video!😂 I buy my towels at Costco. They’re regular bath towels and they’re inexpensive. In Southern California things dry rather quickly so I get away with it.
If that was my trailer, that shower drain line would have a diverter valve so that the drain water could be dispensed under the trailer. No different than having an outdoor shower.
I still only brush my hair once per week. Can’t remember exactly which towel this was, but I’m still on the search for a good one. So not the one from this video either. Thanks for watching!
I am looking at Base Camp 16’s to purchase and have followed your channel from the gitgo. Although Base Camps are popular there is little on TH-cam about camping in them but a ton of car salesman style ads selling them. I just found a new channel that does feature camping in a Base Camp. It’s new with only a few episodes but they are very very well done. Please watch a couple of episode and if you like them, give them a shout out. It’s a first class site in my opinion. It’s called Sir Campalot. PS: Hope you’re up to speed on your Alaska adventure…..I’m really looking forward to watching it!
Very informative, when I was in the navy we called those navy showers. Rinse, then lather up and then rinse off. The navy shower head had a button you push to allow water flow. It had to be held in to work. Really helped save on water.

@@TailsofWanderlust your always welcome ma'am Cass be safe always
Hey, use a tiny bungee cord from Harbor freight to wrap around the shower head when you are on the road. They sell these cord just over 6 inches long.
Great idea!
Perhaps I missed it, but how did you install the shutoff valve? I think that is an absolute must in a smaller camper with a shower like this, and I'd love to know what that is and how you did it!
I attached it right below the shower head. So when screwing in the new shower head, just put the shut off valve on first. Here’s the parts: (#4) tailsofwanderlust.com/2020/02/04/10-best-airstream-basecamp-rv-accessories-for-under-25/
Great video Cass.
Thanks Carl! Appreciate you checking this one out as well!
Thank you so much for sharing your tips!
I just put the same showerhead in my new truck camper and was able to use the old hose so I’d check that first
I've learned a lot from your videos. Thank you
So glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
Great video 😊 the hair towel is called a turbie twist 👍🏻
Ah perfect! Thanks for watching!
One advantage of having the toilet in the shower is that if your too tall to stand up then you can just sit and shower. I've heard that washing your hair everyday isn't good for it.
Congratulations on the sponsor!
P.S. Always wash you face before your butt.🤣
Hahaha great tip!
That ending was perfect! Command hooks seem to be a real life saver I think I'll try them out more. How do you shave in that small space?
Thank you Tails of Wanderlust!!
Ah good call out, I don't shave my legs in there, it's too tight. Electric razor for the win!
Very informative.. I love it.. im learning a lot about rving.
So glad to hear that, thanks for watching!
Showering like the Japanese would probably be helpful here. That's basically what you're doing anyway. Just get a bucket for the beginning, soap up, then rinse off with whatever's in the bucket or use the shower head.
Ah interesting! Thanks!
I wish I could give you a test towel and cloth,
Thanks for the video
Really good to know on the Norwex Rebecca. Thanks for sharing!
Would Rain X help keep wall shedding water and cleaner?
I just don't understand how cheaper Rvs have a shower miser, which recirculates the water back to your holding tanks while you get the right water temp, and Airstream does not. I'm sure the inventor of the shower miser would love to have this in every Rv. I love the concept.
That would be an amazing addition!
Great video! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Interesting to learn the Turkish towels don’t dry that well. And a thick terry towel would not dry completely and become funky. Thanks Cass!
Interesting on the terry. The hunt for a perfect towel continues!
Hope the wet cloth trick helps! There are some tiny wet baths out there, so completely understand if you aren't able to make it work!
Love you and your vid. Thanks for sharing AND saving me because now i know for SURE i will not get a wet bath or anything with a combination black/grey tank. That will be my no no list lol. 😊
Haha it's great to also learn what we don't want! So glad it was helpful!
What you described is called by Navy and Coast Guard vets a Sea Shower. You only get x amount of time and x amount of water so every shower head is equipped like you have yours. Get wet, shut off shower, soap up, rinse off, done.
Very efficient!
Trying to get the wife to take a "camper" shower. Got a shower head with an on/ off switch. She'll get it if I nag too much. ; - )
Just takes a lot of practice!
Great insights. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic!
Thanks for watching!
Helpful video, thanks. I’ve been seriously considering basecamp but surprised at only having black/grey combo. The basic unit seems as off-road off-grid capable as any, but black water in those environments is the worse option. Ugh. Not very thoughtful design for the expense.
They have the REI option now with a composting toilet, but it does have quite the price tag...
Often wondered how that worked… Safe Travels. Cheers!
Thanks Ed!
Napoleon thought he would be next in the shower line-up, so he made a quick escape....
Hahaha!!
Great video thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for a good video. I love Lava Linens. Pricy but not microfiber and soft and absorbent.
I will definitely look into them since I'm still trying to find a good one. Thank you!
Jasper was really interested in this video!😂 I buy my towels at Costco. They’re regular bath towels and they’re inexpensive. In Southern California things dry rather quickly so I get away with it.
As soon as the sun goes down, he's ready for bed! Thanks for watching!
Love your hair style
Thank you!
..2 words - Shower Buddy~!!!
Thanks for watching!
If that was my trailer, that shower drain line would have a diverter valve so that the drain water could be dispensed under the trailer. No different than having an outdoor shower.
Sadly, the shower drain is very short and drops directly into the black/gray tank. I've looked to do that, but the cost way outweighs the benefit
Napoleon at the end 🤣😆😹
😂 Thanks for watching!
I'm retired military and early on I learned how to shower with less than two canteens of water... using a wash cloth is a given.
Let us know how towel works. Do you brush your hair more now that you wash hair once a week
I still only brush my hair once per week. Can’t remember exactly which towel this was, but I’m still on the search for a good one. So not the one from this video either. Thanks for watching!
Should try the geyser shower system.
I’ve seen mixed reviews on those so haven’t taken the leap yet.
Thanks, very helpfull advice.
Thanks for sharing that channel Lawrence! I'll definitely go check out some of Sir Campalots videos.
We are towel twins. 🤣 Don't waste your money on the terry/ Turkish combination. It feels like the micro fiber one. I also haven't found one I like.
Really good to know! The search continues....
How are you receiving amazon delivery?

Nice tip showering....
Thanks for watching!
Not to sound creepy, but how does your toilet work? Just wondering about the differences in RV toilet types.
This toilet is a regular flush type. Push down the lever with my foot and everything flushes into the black tank.
Who doesn't like shower talk with Cass, lol.
Haha! Thanks for watching!
good information
Thanks for watching!
In military we were taking 30 sec shower which was enough to stay clean everyday
That's an impressively short shower!
Hello. 😊 what are the measurements of your wet bathroom, length by width
I don’t have that camper anymore so sorry can’t measure it
Just all of a sudden I need to go take a shower 🚿
😂 Thanks for watching!
You’re so cool!
Thanks for watching!
I need a pareto chart for the hot/cold bathroom water situation.
Seriously!
Good tips. We didn't do all of them in our TT but then again, our TT had a tub, it wasn't a wet bath. Until next time... Travel Safe.
A tub would be a dream!
