Patrick, I forget how good you are with the airstream walk throughs. You have almost sold me one on more than one occasion and I already have a bus, a van and a pickup. I don’t fall for the typical sales push, but you don’t push. It sounds like I am sucking up but I don’t have any reason to. I camped on a small lake near Lake Tahoe with friends. We were all in tents but my best friend brought his base camp and it was amazing having all the creature comforts. I just wish I had one😂

Unbelievable how little you get for 62k. So many amazing van builds that I'd rather have.
Airstream has a full range of campervans to choose from.
To me it doesn't seem "little". I've not seen build quality like this and everything is smartly placed and extremely well thought-out. For the wrap-around windows alone it's pretty unique. The normal non rei one is 46K or 51 with X package
agreed ,,for 62k way overpriced a 2109s rockwood is alot better buy.

I'm seriously never interested in the exterior features... I usually fast forward or pay attention to something else. But I actually watched the entire exterior on this video. You did a really great job with presenting the basecamp 16x. Keep up the great work sir! 👍
The outside is just as important as the inside.
I know they have the Basecamp 20 but I'd love a little larger one (24 feet) to get a dry bath and designated bed with a bunk possibly.
Maybe one day.

Thanks for the detailed information. Just really a little too bare bones for the price, I think. I used to own a 32' Airstream in the '70's. Used from the Arctic to the Gulf of Mexico. Just spoiled now, I guess.
There are other Airstream models in the price range like that Bambi that are a little more plush.

Ridiculously overpriced. Tiny refer, small cooktop, and inefficient sink. Setting up the bed is a beating as well.
For the price of this 16X, you can get the 2023 20X Basecamp, that gives you more interior space and a larger solar package as well.
They are closely priced however the20X is not offered in the REI and does not have 360W of Solar and lithium batteries.
If it was $40k I'd be looking at one. Like the layout and headroom.
We have used 2018's in the 40K range.

I know it's a small trailer, but I would want a real shower and a grown up toilet.

Absolutely not at all. A Side By Side comparison to a compatible sized travel trailer will show that Airstream gives you a lot more for your money and the reasale value is excellent too.

I noticed there were a lot of, “you can also get” and “you can buy”. If I’m spending 64k I should have to spend a single penny on other tools.
Bo matter what you purchase, there are always aftermarket items that can be purchased if you decide to. Just the phone you buy, many people buy a scree protector and a case.
I’ve watched so many demos and by far, this is the best one. I’m in Texas otherwise would buy from you.

unfortunately we would not recommend, because you would be pushing close to the vehicles limit.

That's okay, because it would be time for bed.
That “bed” looks like it’s very unstable. The way you put it together looks weird. Your not weird (😂), the way the bed has to be assembled is. It just doesn’t look like it can hold a lot of weight. For instance, if a couple would buy this trailer, how much weight can the set up bed hold? I’m just asking out of curiosity. I’ve always liked airstream travel trailers, especially the largest ones. They are just so well made, I love all the floor plans. But all I can do is watch videos of them, because I would never able to afford one😢. Wishful thinking !😊
The bed is designed to hold two above average size humans.

Can the grey and black tanks be combined into a larger grey tank if you opt for the composting toilet?
This has a combo grey/black tank. It is the same tank and tank size if you opt for the liquid separating toilet.

I have “REI”ed my interior. No plexidoors. Mesh with pockets on bungees for cabinet closures. Hooks added for gear. Thinking about the access to truma as shown. Great job Patrick!

If you vehicle has enough hitch weight allowance, payload, 7-way wiring harness and an aftermarket electric brake controller. it may be able to pull it.

I would never buy an RV with a combined grey water black water tank. Big mistake on Airstream’s part.
Having a combined tank can increase the overall capacity and efficiency of your RV's wastewater system. Which can be particularly advantageous for those planning to camp off-grid for an extended period.
@@colonialairstream There are a number of State parks I have camped in that only have one dump station but grey water stations next to the campsite which means one can empty grey water without moving the trailer. Also dump stations that take sewage are gross. You need to wear covers for your shoes or dedicate a pair of shoes for dumping. Cassette toilets are a much better concept for black waste.
Lots of people that are buying these are backpackers that want to upgrade their “Basecamp”. Backpackers are pretty good at working with 1-2 gallons of water per person per day, and others can easily learn. So a 20+ gallon combo tank is a luxury. You need the small amount of grey water you create to get that black tank sloshed and prepped for the dump station before you go back out to “rough it” in luxury. Perfect set up for the target audience, and with over 3 years of experience with the BC16X I speak from experience.

Great job on the tour but that floor plan really doesn’t seem practical to me. Can you even put sheets on that oddly shaped sleeping space??
Yes, owners of this model are able to have sheets on their beds.
It’s not a problem, i have a bed like that on my boat, queen size fitted sheet set is perfect (this van might require king size) the elasticated bottom sheet works a treat for odd shapes… Another tip, I found the cushion gaps a bit annoying when sleeping so I got a thin mattress topper and cut it to size

I have customers that have 4 of their kids sleep on the rear bed when its down.

Outside look and aluminum is ageless, but inside Materials, design n use of space Seems dated for the price.

I wouldn't put an age restriction on the Basecamp, It all comes down to personal use and what you plan to do with it.

Torsion axles: run. Personal experience.
Why?
Short lifespan. Appx 10 years and you throw them out and replace, no repairing them. From the axle mfg they tell you to remove the weight from them in storage too.
