I met him about 12 years ago downtown Chicago on Broadway in front of the Green Mill ... he was on the phone pacing up and down the street and I waited a few minutes and he got off the phone and I yelled out “Hey Anthony my sister loves you” and he looked at me and went 🤷🏻‍♂️ and then walked over and introduced himself to me and my buddy. He was super nice and real and he was in Chicago to film an episode of his show. It was great to meet him - hope you’re at peace Anthony - I know you are 🙏🏻

It's not beating up on AB to use this sad choice as motivation to check in on ourselves and others. Suicide is not a desirable outcome, but of course it's not something to blame someone for. I'm very grateful for his life and what he had to say about the world. But given the circumstances, I wish he had taken more time and care for himself-- as we all should.

Actually when something like this first happens you are in shock. Trust me she probably has a million wonderful things to say about her son. It will take her a long while to process this. Stop judging others and how they react in times of grief. Unless you have walked in the same shoes you don’t know how it feels to lose someone to suicide.

    • @yivmaiden
      @yivmaiden 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

The phrase sounds as if it comes out from the mouth of a media machine picking up juicy morsels surrounding a celebrity's suicide, rather than the reflection of the death of a fellow human being, and being empathetic towards the grief of his mom. That was why I felt appalled at her choice of words.

I've been a fairly big fan of AB for quite a few years. In his book he shares how after his first divorce he thought about killing himself every night while driving home. I figured he was in a way better place now, especially with a daughter he adores. My guess is that he is on some pharmaceutical that enhanced these feelings in him.

Very sad…how about we ALL wake up to reality of disconnect and trauma in so many lives. How long are we going to keep ‘running’ from it and idolizing traumatized people-
Be kind to yourself, listen to the cries of your and others souls and quit running.
    Wisdom of trauma….
    God help us all!!

I don't understand all this concern with keeping people alive when nobody cares about their quality of life. Those who are left behind and express sadness are often the very same people who never raised a finger including governments.
People are sleeping rough on the streets, forced to eat rats, denied healthcare and yet everyone wants to prolong their suffering and even God forbid get them to procreate yet another miserable life because the system needs slaves.
Bravo those who have the courage to end it all.

How can you say " Bravo", to a lonley suicide. My nephew took his life at 22 years old after a broken heart. He was loved, had just had a young child and was about to graduate to his profession. I live in a different state, yet I wired him funds to pay his rent for a year after the new baby....He was loved by his Mom, Dad , sibling, Aunts, Cousins and STILL ended it. Your comment about bravery, he was frightened and must have felt hopless ....I still cry for the beautiful soul he was and would have been...for his child who will NEVER know a hug from him.

Imagine your alone, struggling and not much to live for and hearing all this bad need about people who have it so much better and couldn't even make it...it's heartbreaking to hear and struggling hard to find reason to keep going

Aspartame in our soft drinks and energy drinks are driving people insane every day.
This was a very serious issue for me. I progressively lost control and didn't have a clue . I could've harmed myself or someone. Luckily I found out just in time before it unknowly took over completely.

I can't believe it happened, Mr. Anthony Bourdain was an inspiration to me, His show was always so captivating to me. Most Saturdays I would watch Anthony Bourdain on CNN, he was an incredible story teller, Mr. Anthony Bourdain was also a seasoned Chef. I wish we could turn time back time and help him, Anthony was pretty close to me because, the way he talked to people and told stories was Incredible, man! this guy was blamless! Anthony would always treat people with respect and engage in conversation like no one else and make Friends everywhere, Anthony you were like a really good friend to me, God bless you Anthony. He was laid back and always took it easy, I think all of us need to do that sometimes in life, Anthony is/was an Ideal to strive for in terms of how he was laid back and was a stud on CNN, even being on CNN by itself is an enormous accomplishment. Finally, I think that Anthony will be remembered as a legend, I guess through the test of time the chapter of his life just had to end, I guess God just decided to take his life. Rest in peace Anthony hopefully I know as great of a guy like you should be in paradise with God, I Guess what I'm trying to say is you're in a better place or maybe the next life. I will be praying for you Anthony, I will be praying for you Anthony and in addition all of our brothers and sisters everywhere ( humanity), xoxoxo R.I.P. Anthoby Bourdain.

Gosh, one of the greatest humans to walk this earth. My Dad and I watched his show on CNN all the time, the highlight of my dad's sickly last few years. Tony Bourdain was loved by my Father so much, he even started speaking in the same mannerisms. When Dad was in his hospital and as I was leaving for the evening, dad said to me, don't for6to watch Bourdain as he called him, I said dad, my TV channel is set. Tony why, I mean I can relate to everything you've gone through since I'm going thru the same now, but I'm trying to find d my way. How much I loved hearing you speak about food, comforted me to no end, I felt peaceful at bedtime thinking wow, I was just mesmerized by a king, as you always will be

    1) All mental health professionals know that there are ALWAYS signs (and risk factors can help alert you). People often don’t know what they are or cognitive dissonance prevents them from being able to even admit there may be a problem. Some signs are very subtle and some aren’t taken seriously. In Anthony’s case, as with ANY addict, that will always be something that has the POTENTIAL to be a trigger and will always be considered a risk factor (regardless of length of sobriety, if any). I’m not saying it played a role here; we don’t know - but it was ALWAYS a risk factor.
    2) Dear ABC anchor, the pain of his/any mother shouldn’t be compared to that of his fans. Just a tiny criticism that all mothers could understand.
    3) Not all suicides are preventable (not referring to Anthony, just in general) and once a person is gone it takes a truly vile, immoral, CRUEL person to say anything negative about the deceased or their family. If you must be a jerk, save it for your friends and family, don’t be a monumental coward and sit behind a screen just to bully a person who died tragically. You are NO ONES judge and jury.
*We can NEVER fully know what a person is feeling regardless of our perceived relationship with them.*
Rest easy Tony... I’m so sorry you were suffering so deeply.

If you watch his shows and listen to his narration, you hear the voice of a poet. As someone who travels a lot for fun and enjoyment, I always was drawn to his love of new cultures and new experiences. I always remember this quote, "the world is a book and those who don't travel only read one page." Anthony was they type that relished reading every page and never wanted to stop. The fact that he had demons inside him convincing him that life was too painful is scary. He had the job and lifestyle many would dream of. Right now there is someone with no money barely getting by in the worst situation possible yet they continue to fight. It is so sad to think that someone at the other end of the spectrum decided that they couldn't go on further. RIP Tony

Intellegent talented uncompromising. Anthony was a friend to each and every one of us. Each episode he recorded of parts unknown allowed us the adventure few of us would ever taste, hear or see. perhaps he decided that life had given him all there was to offer and it was time to go home. Anthony lived for us and delivered it with style and Witt. He walked streets with a tall, lean, slow kind of stride all over the world searching for us the best of times. Thanks Anthony for the good times and being our friend.
