The worst encounter for him was Argento. I’m Italian we grew up with her stupid creepy bs playing the coolest girl. She’s quite messy utterly screw up. For him was a fatal encounter, brought all his demons on the surface. So Sorry for him

Sad to say but Mr Bourdain picked a real dud to love. Ms Argento appeared to not feel the same way and he took it hard. Who wants to be in at “open relationship” if you feel strongly about someone? Clearly, he cared more for her than she did him. We all make a fool out of ourselves for love. He was a good man. Millions loved his work. RIP.

@tod3msn Yeah. I agree. What a waste of a good life over a mixed-up woman. You know it's too bad that this timeframe was before Richard Cooper was on the internet on 'The Unplugged Alfa' to offer his common sense sound advice. Three days talking face to face, in person, with Richard Cooper would have OPENED HIS EYES to the way low quality women can dismantle and ruin a man's life. Such a sad outcome. Tony needed to be taught to be mentally and emotionally strong. You'd think the jujitsu would have done that (!)
Tony needed direction from Richard Cooper. He would be alive today.

My father was also involved in Vietnam and the trajectory of his life was completely altered due to his time on the front lines. He also became a heavy alcoholic and eventually lost his amazing career and material possessions, and ultimately his family. We received word that he was found at the end of his driveway deceased. It appeared as if he had deliberately drank to excess and they were unsure whether it was alcohol poisoning (he was an alcoholic of several decades, so the amount found within his system to cause poisoning was immense) or the injury to his head that led to his passing.
I feel terribly for everyone affected by that war. There’s an entire generation of young men (and women) that had their lives permanently altered for the worse due to what they saw/went through. Likewise to the Vietnamese fighters and civilian victims.

He publicly went to bat for Argento in regards to Weinstein. He supported her 100% when the inevitable doubt and questions arose because after being assaulted by Weinstein she had a consensual relationship with him. Her story was not black and white as some of the other victims of weinstein. Tony was head over heels for Argento and would hear none of it. Some of his closest friends became concerned about his relationship with her but Tony put them on notice that she was here to stay and became even more protective of her. They had no idea that this included paying her accuser off. Although Tony was very successful his net worth included real estate and other non cash assets. Paying off Argentos accuser took a lot of cash that he didn’t necessarily have laying around. Tony was completely besotted and acting like a teenager. When the pictures of Argento and Hugo Clement were printed he was visibly upset. He called her and they fought over the phone. She posted a pic wearing a Sid vicious t-shirt that said “F” everyone. She added the comment “you know who you are.” Tony was supposed to meet his friend eric for dinner and never showed. Again he was to meet eric the next morning for breakfast and didn’t show up. He was then found dead in his hotel room. Tony died of humiliation. He knew paying off her accuser would become public knowledge and the pictures with Clement made him feel used. Although she now states they had an open relationship, when she became aware that she was being photographed with Clement she asked the photographer to delete the photos. Tony committed suicide five days after the photos first appeared online. After Tony’s death Argento deleted the Sid vicious tee pic. Although it was ultimately Tony’s choice to end his life, Argentos “use” of the men in her life has had extreme consequences. Not the least of which is a young girl growing up with out a father.

Tony Bourdain, believed in her.He loved her with all his being. If she had faults., he could see past it. Love is love. You cannot change the way you feel about someone. When he was depressed, he had to cope with his own demons. He couldn’t share what he was going through cause it was such a dark place. Maybe during these moments he had to rustle with it. He may have gotten tired of the fight. The mental fight of this The mental fight of it all. He may have felt that there was no way outta this fighting ring. And in this dispute he committed suicide.

I watched Tony's different series for over a decade. One of my all time faves. He was a Liberal, but even if you're not, you liked him, his voice, and how he dealt with people. I've seen Roadrunner several times and there is an iconic name reason line..."he ran for a long time, but you can't outsmart pain." The last woman was his trigger, I think he was overall disappointed with life as a romantic and yes he was a prior addict, he really didn't want to be a dad, and I don't think he wanted to live as an older guy, just getting older.

@@lauradrinkwine7673 I don't think so if you watched the movie and his series for years. Having a kid and becoming a father does not make everyone happy. Guys I've known since high school that got women pregnant, that didn't make them happy. If it had made Bourdain happy, he would still be alive, and not be triggered by the tattooed freak that was screwing around all over the world. Bourdain had the cash to have the Swedish bikini team on staff around the clock, but even that couldn't make him happy, unfortunately.

@@lauradrinkwine7673 Who knows? He was an addict earlier, and a romantic, and he reminded me of my dad somewhat. I don't think he wanted to live old, he was sort of a narcissist, and I think the disappointment with that woman triggered him, even after seeing the world, even being a millionaire, and having a kid, he was done. I think he had gone all in with that relationship, he had fired long term friends because of her, and he couldn't overcome his disappointment, heartbreak and guilt. I think the movie is very deep.

he was really an okay chef who was also a really talented writer. as a kid he read a lot and fell in love with bad-boy writers: hemingway, hunter s. thompson, probably the "beat" writers, kerouac, allen ginsberg, etc. he had upside down values--smoking is cool, using hard drugs is cool, and he pursued that image in a fearless way. problem is, when you live that way and hit sixy, you look like your face is made of billfold leather, and you're tired, more than that, you're weary. He was trying to keep up with this much younger woman, while working all the time, exhausted. when you're exhausted you can't think straight. this woman he's done everything for starts doing a sadistic number on him. he looked at his life, which was lonely, at his age, at the impending humiliation he was going to get in the tabloids, that in ten short years he's going to be seventy, so he capped himself. that's the story. long answer but a truthful one. he didn't like what he saw coming at him up the tunnel.

I’m not sure. There are consequences to everything, and maybe someone will see this and think, “when it gets really bad, just try to hunker down and wait for it to pass.” What possible good does it do to keep things a secret? Someone(s) may be able to learn from this while they are mentally healthy amd remember in times of depression. There are people who are immature but there are caring sensible people as well who can learn from this. We can hope. If even one person uses what happened to him as some lesson and it saves even one life….is it not worth publishing?
