Tonight... from 6pm-10pm, I practiced with my band... singing songs Iron Maiden, Metallica, Ozzy, and Seether. I felt absolutely no fatigue after. Chris' tips are invaluable in my improved singing stamina. Even though I practice with the band... I work on my vocal technique in the car. I watch a lot of these videos while I work 3rd shift and I implement these tips any time I decide to carry a tune. Thank you, Chris. I'm sharing you with every singer I know.
I once watched an interview with Chris Cornell about this subject. He just said to not worry about people hearing you and don't be embarrassed. Obviously, be respectful of others. I have found that if you can hit your notes the majority of the time and be consistent, your neighbors will actually come to enjoy your singing. Singing a variety of genres to make everyone happy helps as well.
Well i was screaming my toes out to get revenge on my neighbors for playing loud music while i was sick with a migraine... You turned me into a screaming machine Chris...you did this to me!! 😆 Man i love this guy best teacher ever period
Less than a minute in and you earn my subscription and my respect with not only your voice, but also by singing one of my favorite songs that I never hear anywhere. I'm excited to check out your videos and learn singing with you!
Love your singing in the beginning and the visual of your lead and backup harmonies. Great tips on practicing!! I am inspired and will be listening to your Christmas album today on repeat. Love listening to your amazing voice, and honored to receive the guidance you give and the treasures in your courses and videos.
I was going through classical traineding, when I was practicing an idot guy stood outside my window and made stupid noises every time I opened my mouth to sing. That experience completely distroyed my confidence, I ended up getting into the habit of holding back when I sang particularly when I used a microphone. Then eventually I stopped singing. Ten years on I do want to try again, just need to get over that barrier.
I never knew I needed this video until you posted this since I've made it a habit to be a "super quiet" singer due to having neighbors nearby. Thanks!!
a vocalist that has helped my building my mix voice is paul mccartney. I'd love a new Paul Mccartney Vocal analysis video, maybe from his solo work like the Mccartney Album or The Wings album. Just listening to his vocals is teaching me alot about mix voice
Thank you for this my good sir. I’ve always had a ton of trouble with finding the confidence to sing anywhere others could hear me, tonight though, I found something in me that gave me the comfort and confidence to sing to some music with my family around. Have a fantastic Christmas, and if you don’t celebrate, have a great weekend.
I've been curious about having an appropriate vocal posture but using a quieter sound if that is a feasible alternative. There's no replacement for full voice experience, but as a supplement, something that might have been full voiced, could be made more into a head voice or falsetto. Even making no sound at all and not actually engaging the vocal folds, you can still have a posture of the vocal tract in position. Maybe a 'what correct postures sound like at lower intensities/volumes' would be an interesting video idea.
Thanks for sharing this video! I wish you have made this available about 20 years ago when I still lived at home with my parents because they didn't like hearing me practise my music all day and night.
I jam a folded towel in my face, pros: very quiet, cons: only useful for familiar stuff as you cannot hear nuances. Also, I'd drive my my car to some street with no houses and practice in there. Pros: youre by yourself, cons: youre sitting down.

Wow. That intro reminded me a lot of the great jeff buckley. I didn’t realize some of the similarities in your vocals to his until this. Also, i basically grew up making music. So when you are younger you have a built in obliviousness/arrogance. I never went around and asked/informed my neighbors of anything. We lived next to college kids and i met one group of them eventually and they had many questions and were actually quite impressed. In the back of my mind i was always a little worried when drumming or super brutally screaming. There was one time a cop stopped by. But almost everyone is cool about it. Those cool neighbors actually told me they could tell who was who when they heard drumming and singing. They were grateful we almost never were too loud too late (we worked in the basement too) but i pressed and was like “there had to be times you wanted to kill me” and they finally were like “wellll… yessss a few times when we needed sleep before tests or this or that but you didn’t know so it wasn’t your fault”. People are really cool a lot of the time. BUT that doesn’t mean just neglect to care for others. People have every right to not have to deal with noise pollution sometimes. I think we all have had moments where construction outside our house or something was ruining our lives. Just have that consideration for others. But yea apparently the couple times we had a party with live music, my neighbors decided to throw one as well, and kind of inter-mingled and used the excitement of our live music to help throw theirs. Lol. Lifes weird.

It won’t work if those neighbors are rude, toxic and a bully. Think about the dark reality of the situation rather than socialize. You don’t have enough experience with rude neighbors.
I don't think he means just 10 minutes for the whole day- more like maybe even up to 40 minutes a day (or more, depending on what you practise), but in 10 minute intervals. So for example 10 mins at 9AM, then again at 11AM, then at 4PM and you might be done for the day, or practise again later. This is so that you can focus directly on something you wish to improve without hurting your vocal folds- he mentions distortion or screaming as an example. You'd probably need to do a longer warm up the first time round, but each time you practise the warm up will most likely be shorter than in the first interval of the day as your voice box will slowly remain warmed up- (the more you practise the more warmed up it'll be requiring a shorter warm up later in the day, but a short warm up will still be necessary)- and especially if the time between intervals is short (so like 10 mins at 12PM, then 1PM, then 2PM). I don't know for certain, however.
