      @@FilipPivec thanks!
      My father is kind of an evil one.. as a kid I used to sing in the car to songs on the radio… and then Ask him what he thought… he would say, I really enjoy the song but the voice of yours is disgusting! I was like 10 years old then…
      Last week he was in my home during a visit and I had recorded some songs by Eric Clapton after I lost my mom and so liked to sing Tears in Heaven… I had recorded it on an old Zoom H4N… I know it was zero idea to ask him to have time to listen to me, so I just played it as if I wanted to listen to it myself, like checking the recorder and play it by mistake while he was busy in the room…
      After a few seconds he got very silent and stopped…
      He looked down in the ground the way people do when they lost something emotionally important to them, like a relationship…
      He then said, is that you? Or is Simon n’ Garfunkel? And he could not first tell!
      I said is just me recording on this old recorder, and mimic singing holding it up in front of my mouth… he then looked very distressed and said, is like hearing Simon n’ Garfunkel and then looked out in the distant and nodded as in saying, very good…and then left it there and switched his focus and said,
      Ok, now we must leave for the champagne…
      (Our birthdays co-exist in the same week, so we sometimes celebrate at the same time so he can feel is all for him instead of for his son, as he get to jealous if it ever would be a day all about his own son)
      Then he walked out of the home while the recorder still played, I shut it off and accepted that is about how much support I can ever get from him and left too….

      @@SimplicityForGood I' m sorry for your lost. 😔 Be proud of yourself, sometimes we are ( mostly ) alone our biggest support.
      Unfortunately the family members didn't ( or don't won't to ) see things that are important to us, but don't let that this disquiries you.
      Just keep going !!! My friend. At the end.... It is just important what you think and feel ( and see ) in music and when you sing. 🙂

    Yes I need to know this, I also need to find your daily warmup for baritones and I cant find it..Sadly I can not afford to pay you anything.. Right now, I am stuck at 1-2 hours of singing..I get sore after an hour or so.. I need to get up to full gig singing before I can make money at gigs. I have been singing for a few years now, long boring story, ok. I do NOT scream, screech or try to sing high like a girl. I sing in baritone range mostly, go up to tenor for a few notes now and then as required for a song. Classic rock of all styles. Rock and roller..without screaming.

      Until you can swing one of my courses, check out this video: th-cam.com/video/yeuKpLLf96w/w-d-xo.html
      We baritones can tend to put unhelpful mental limitations on our voices that limit us in ways we're not even aware of. It's not really necessary, once you change a few mindset aspects of singing, to have voice-type-specific workouts or warmups. You can take the same song, line or warmup or workout and, using mindfulness, adapt whatever it is to your voice, whatever the type! This takes time and patience and lots of practice, but is a much better existence than trying to find tailor made things for what you perceive your voice to be.
      The video I linked above will help explain this more!

    Perfect video for me today. I get SO carried away singing and then it ends up being "I'll stop after this song" for another 10 songs. Then I'm worn out and the next day I'm raspy. But...I'm enjoying singing so it's really hard to stop. In fact I just finished a 4 hour session just playing around with songs I like, and I'll likely not be able to talk normally tomorrow. Does anyone else have this issue?

  • @iamnathanmusic

    Really helpful stuff man. I’ve been working with Lukas and he said something helpful in regards to my struggle with doing high-pitched powerful singing consistently, and it was something to the effect of “when you’re pushing past whatever your voice/body naturally does (ie speaking register and lowww belt) your body is gonna go ‘what the fuck are you doing to me?!’ and it’s gonna feel uncomfortable initially!”. And when I experience these discomforts, I now recognize that as being me still in the “exploration” phase, with some crossover into conditioning, sure, but point being, if I’m doing stuff that’s relatively new to my body I have to remember to do it in moderation and be patient with myself! Practice a bit, try to push a little on what I can do, then stop! Take a day off. Try again later and do a little more. All the while, trying to be keenly aware of what my body is telling me.

    for me it is ~15min under the shower every 2nd day. And then every other week after a couple of beers, I growl along to my favourite songs (Amon Amarth) for about 30-45min. Thats the time my voice stays in the spot where I want it to be. After that it gets sloppy. Looking back some years the 30-45min were more like 5-10min before my voice would brake away.
    Good topic / video.

    Good thing I just watched your video, I was experimenting with my chesty mixed voice and I was wondering if it was normal that my voice felt tired much faster. The answer is "probably yes" because I'm still in the exploration phase, and I didn't realize it could be rougher than the other types of practising. Great video!

    Chris I love your method of teaching. If I had one complaint is at times you over explain, and soon I feel my brain has fried from all the details. Sometimes halfway through a video my eyes are watering, and I'm thinking what did he say at the beginning of this teaching and how does it connect to what he is saying now. Anyway, there is so much involved, I feel overwhelmed with all the details from one video. SO I say to myself, if this is what is involved in one fundamental aspect of singing, good God I'll never remember everything there is to know to sing well. If I had one wish it would be "Chris please make one video of fundamentals of singing, keep it simple, no repetitive explanations, and please keep it to the basics and don't over explain - simple and to the point" I bet I just challenged you to something you would have a hard time doing, like me trying to sing one of your high notes. P.S. I did take your free voice lesson, but not as helpful as I was hoping for. But I want to be clear on one thing - you are the best on TH-cam, so don't think I have not learned, but at times I am hungry for simplicity without a hundred details explaining one aspect of singing. Pick the best explanation and no more. IF I offended you -- forgive me and slap me with a high note :)

      UGH! You are saying. I will share my weakness or at least where I feel weak, I'm sure there are many more. Have you ever heard the song "Fool for you Anyway" by Foreigner. Love the song. When I listen to it, I think that can't be too difficult to sing, but when I try to sing it, I sound weak. Most of it seems like chest singing in mid-range. There is the one part where he sings "And I know if I kissed you" and goes from low to high (kiss you, he sings high). I just can't do it. I break. This song is all in the chest register, right?

      Thanks for the feedback! I think the extended explanations are difficult for some, but essential for creating content that is lasting. Nothing IS simple and deserves lots of thought and second glances... And true introspection! Are you a part of any of my courses? If you enroll as a student and immerse yourself in that content, videos like these will be more digestible for you!

      I like the loads of info. If my brain doesn’t understand it the first way he explains it, usually the second time does. I’d not I have to skip back a bit lol

    • @LiamFarleyMA
      @LiamFarleyMA 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisliepe I completely disagree with him, the repetition is difficult if you're returning to videos for a specific bite of information (I just take notes to avoid this issue), but when watching them having you going over stuff multiple times really helps drill it into your head or the different language you use makes it click better with some explanations than others. Repetition is the backbone of learning in a standard classroom environment.

    Random question, I was watching another video about screaming and the guy in it said that being more diverse is more dangerous than doing one thing, he said that doing gutturals, and high screams, while singing high or gritty is more stressful than just singing or just screaming, is that true?

    • @chrisliepe
      @chrisliepe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don’t agree with that perspective. It can all be done safely if done mindfully, with good technique and in moderation. I’ve worked with many many singers and artists who would say the same.
