    Great review Steve! Always watch them the second I see a post. This GC’s definitely a step up from last gen, but still has areas to improve.

    You can’t compare this to a Mercedes. For cost of the overland i would say it’s pretty amazing. Better than just “good”. Shifting is smooth and the sound system was awesome. I like some of your points but it just sounds like you are being nit picky about some items. I got the 5.7L and have no regrets.

    I’ve had my Overland for almost a year now and I love it. The tech stuff you mention is programmable, so you can rearrange apps to where you want them. My surround camera is at the very top of the Home Screen next to the notifications bell. The strength of the lane correction is adjustable, as is the distance between you and the car in front of you for cruise control. For the price, this is the best option on the market.

    I think your last comment hit the nail on the head with this vehicle: they don't want to make it SO good buyers avoid test driving the Wagoneer.
    Also, I like to see at least 1 automotive journalist giving Jeep and Dodge the due credit for successfully selling cars originally designed decades ago. I'm sure they're breaking records but nobody talks about 'em for some reason.
    Anyway. Thanks for the honest review dude 👍🏾

    Your review was spot on. I test drove one this week and the engine was the biggest disappointment. Gutless and unrefined, it was pretty much a deal killer. The interior is very nice, but the responsiveness of the infotainment screen is slow. Sad, because I really want to like this SUV. Nice review.

    • @evz1244
      @evz1244 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The infotainment screen was probably still in dealer shipment mode hence the sluggishness.

    I love this thing with the same passion I had when the refreshed version of the previous gen came out, but I am concerned about reliability on this one even more. I read somewhere (can't remember where) that higher-ups in Stellantis forced Jeep to release the "L" version before the standard version, when in reality the standard version was supposed to be revealed first. Do you think that "rushing" this version of the GC to the market might explain some of the refinement issues you had with this tester?
    I'm due for a new vehicle in the next few years, and this is near the top of my list, but reliability concerns me, especially coming from a 2009 Lexus RX-350 that has not have any major mechanical problems, even at 170k miles.

    I own the Overland GCL. Traded a tricked out Sahara towards it. I love it. Shifts super smooth, plenty of power in the 6 cylinder. Can't really say how quiet it is

    Hello there, I currently have a 2020 GC Limited. I was thinking of trading it in for a GCL Summit. But now after seeing your review I really appreciate your honesty. MOST if not all reviews I have seen from GCL is all "positive" but is it really?? I appreciate your honesty. I'm now looking more towards the palisade calligraphy.

    I’ve driven one and the steering assist did not jerk the wheel at all and was very subtle. I have one on order. Although Jeep is not allowing the off-road packages to be added at this time. Not sure why

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I put 500 highway miles on this one and I couldn’t believe how jerky the steering assist was; crazy bad and I didn’t have it on some ultra-aggressive setting either.
      As for the off-road group I understand it’s currently limited availability due to supplier issues.

    • @Weathergeekdan
      @Weathergeekdan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevehammes yeah the dealer wouldn’t tell me why but I just wanted the upgraded limited slip axle. I don’t plan on taking this 64k Jeep into crazy trails so I’ll be good to go. Was your model an early release for testing and review? Or did you get it from a dealer as a private person ? The two that I drove up and down the highway had very subtle steering assist on the lanes. If you have the display on for the lanes it shows it turning yellow as you get closer to the line. Not once did the wheel jerk at all.

    Hi Steve, I remember your review of the '05 Grand Cherokee, which you said was your choice for the SUV of the year. I still drive my '07 and love its mixture of refinement and ruggedness. I know it's probably the right move for Jeep but it's nevertheless sad to see the Grand Cherokee becoming more and more family-oriented (or minivan-like?). Back then it was more like a 4runner, and now people are comparing it to the Palisade and Telluride...

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow! I’m impressed with the ‘05 reference! And I hear you but I can’t blame Jeep for taking the GC in a more luxurious direction when they’ve got a 4-door Wrangler to take up the slack on the really rugged side.

    We just bought a 2023 Grand Cherokee L Limited. My advise to all would be avoid it like the plague due to its new, trendy uConnect system--it sucks! I also got a 2022 Charger Scat and love the old uConnect in it!

  • @MercOne
    @MercOne 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    It looks good inside and out, but true to Chrysler form, it lacks refinement. It's time for that rumored I6 and it's a little on the pricey side. That said, they'll still a million of them. When the 5-seat version arrives it will only make it a bigger hit. Some refinement would go a long way though, as it already looks amazing. Jeep/Ram newest interiors are a revelation for an American brand.

    They keep their appeal be cause they have extremely lax credit standards and dealers will do some very shady things to get people approved. I worked at a credit union and have sent so many people trying to refi after being told so many lies at different dodge dealers. Toyota usually doesn't play those games.

    I have been waiting for the Grand Cherokee redesign for a long time because the current one is lacking a few options I will not go apart from. But it is inexcusable that Jeep has done nothing to their old engines and the L exterior redesign is a huge disappointment for me. I am now very worried about the regular Grand Cherokee.
    And Steve I love your reviews, including this one. I will disagree with you however: the Wrangler is no replacement for a Grand Cherokee for anyone who drives faster than 40 mph and for too many other reasons to list in a youtube comment.

  • @duncanmclellan5479

    The 3.6 Pentastar and 5.7 Hemi are object lessons in why it behooves an automaker to make continual improvements to existing power trains to remain competitive. 360hp from a V8 is not competitive; 260 ft lb is 2.0t territory. That being said, this is 105% of what the next Durango should be.

    • @dontelindsey5846
      @dontelindsey5846 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm a big Mopar fan but I can't understand how that V8 only puts out 363hp. It should be something closer to 450.

    • @duncanmclellan5479
      @duncanmclellan5479 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dontelindsey5846 agreed. 5.7L OHV V8 with two plugs per cylinder should easily be able to make 70hp/L, which would put it at 400hp. 75hp/L should be easy to make on 91 octane, getting you right around 430. But then you are getting too close to corporate cousin 6.4. So 363hp it is…
