I want a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit 2 row. But, everyone keeps telling me that Jeep stands for “Just Empty Every Pocket” and I’ll regret my purchase in a few years. I haven’t took the plunge because now I’m worried the vehicle won’t hold up.
But the interior on the Summit and Summit Reserve is beautiful and when I did a test drive I loved everything about the inside of the new generation.

Hello Rustbelt Mechanic. Good review, tour and drive video for the newly released fifth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L. That's nice you were able to get your hands on the high trim level Summit Reserve. The interior looks great with the Palermo leather seats along with Palermo surfaces and walnut open pore wood panels. One of the reasons why the Jeep Grand Cherokee L is more luxurious over the outgoing fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee is probably due to Jeep teaming up with Alfa Romeo. This vehicle is built on a new different platform that's from Alfa Romeo and doesn't share any framework from the Dodge Durango. It has third row seating like the Durango, but that's it. Overall maintenance of this vehicle will involve a little more spending. Whoever wants this vehicle especially in the high trim should take into consideration the maintenance aspect of it spending wise. I've test driven the Jeep Grand Cherokee L twice so far couple months ago in July. Once in the Limited trim and once in the Overland trim. The ride quality was nice from both of them. It was nicer on the Overland trim due to coming equipped with the adjustable air ride suspension system. After I test drove the Overland trim I tried out three other features which wasn't found on the Limited trim like the McIntosh 19 speaker premium audio system, hands free foot activated lift gate and the power folding rear seats. Those features along with few other features are found on the three top tier trims Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve. The hands free foot activated lift gate is a neat and convenient feature. It'll get used a lot. As long as the key fob is with you just walk up to the vehicle, move your foot in a slight kicking motion under the middle part of the bumper and that's it. The lift gate will open. The lift gate will also close the same way. If someone's hands are full this feature will be put to use. A nice addition to the vehicle. Another thing that's found on those three top trims, but it's optional is the legendary 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine. That'll be the engine of choice for me when I get the Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Overland trim. I think what Jeep should've done with this engine was to still have it optional starting with the Limited trim. Then, also have it optional with the Overland trim and Summit trim. As for the Summit Reserve trim they should've made the V8 engine the standard engine since that's the highest trim level out of the six trim levels available. Overall, this vehicle will do great in overall sales like the previous four generation Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles. With the addition of third row seating, whoever is cross shopping for a mid-size third row seating SUV will have to include the Jeep Grand Cherokee L on their list. The available comfy features along with upscale premium materials used throughout the interior of the three top tier trims Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve makes those trims capable enough to compete well with the luxury branded mid-size third row seating SUVs. The interiors from those three trim levels will give the interiors from the Cadillac XT6, Lincoln Aviator, Acura MDX, Mercedes GLE, BMW X5, Lexus RX 350L, Infiniti QX60 and Genesis GV80 a run for their money.

All great points, yes after I realized what I said about the Durango and it definitely does not have any connection to that. If you think this Grand Cherokee L is cool, just wait for the Grand Wagoneer to come rolling out!

@@RustbeltMechanic I've seen the presentation of the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. Both full size SUVs looks great. It's great that what was presented at the conference got put into production. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer with the seven screens looks stunning. It has more screen real estate than the Cadillac Escalade, more wood grain materials and more premium materials used as well. It has power reclining third row seats which the Escalade doesn't have. In reference to size the Jeep Grand Wagoneer is three inches longer than the Escalade and four inches longer than the Navigator. With that taken into account there's a pinch more passenger space in both the second and third rows. As for cargo space there's more in the Jeep Grand Wagoneer too. More cargo space behind the third row, more cargo space behind the second row when the third row seats are folded down and more cargo space when all seats are folded down. Finally, it has a greater towing capacity as well. It has a towing capacity of 9,850 pounds while the Cadillac Escalade has a range between 7,500 to 7,700 pounds and the Lincoln Navigator has a range between 6,200 pounds to 8,300 pounds. A nice cool feature both the Grand Wagoneer and Escalade share is a mini refrigerator in the center console arm rest up front. This year Jeep will make bold statements across the board. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L along with the upcoming new generation two row version Grand Cherokee and the Jeep Wagoneer along with the Grand Wagoneer will be the vehicles to do that.

Have you ever seen these off road? I am astonished with what they can do with the right tires and the off road package. They can keep up with a Wrangler in most situations - all but the most extreme; like 90-degree rock wall climbing.

Hi would you say the durability and longevity of the V6 engine is the same as the V8 engine? I’ve read some reviews that the V6 engines don’t last as long maybe due to lack of power from the engine in such a large heavy vehicle. Is the driving experience comparable to a Toyota Highlander with a sluggish take off? I want the V8 but at the same time would consider the v6 to save gas but i don’t like that feeling of feeling like I’m driving a tank around.

So overall what's your opinion on this engine and transmission ? I'm planing now on this vehicle. The limits model with the V6. Will this be a long lasting vehicle ? Obviously I'll maintain it well. But some people say that Chrysler doesn't last long.
So what's your advice on this? How the mechanicals ?

The Jeep Grand Cherokee L comes equipped with third row seating like the Durango, but it doesn't share anything with the Durango though. Based on what Jeep said at their Conference presentation event earlier this year back in January, they said the Jeep Grand Cherokee L is built on a new different platform. A new different platform that's from Alfa Romeo. This is one of the prime reasons certain things especially on the interior is on the upscale side. The three high tier trims Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve definitely symbolizes that.
