I have an Overland GCL 2023 V6 parked in my garage with 11k miles on it. I am a happy and satisfied customer. Gets me 19MPG in City and 22MPG on Highway. No point of arguing with Honda, Kia, Hyundai or Toyota lovers. This is a solid Jeep build with a luxury touch. You are basically getting a Land Rover for 70k+. I have driven my GCL on 800 miles stretch with gas stops only, and there was no fatigue.
I own a '21 Summit Reserve. The reason we got it back then was it's not the usual Toyota/Honda/Nissan vehicles which are so common on the road. This was luxurious as compared to the Japanese alternatives which are more like commodities. Agreed this is running into the territory of MDX/QX60/Q7 etc but in my research, all require premium fuel while the Jeep works with 87 octane. No vehicle is perfect, for us this checked moat of the boxes and we are happy with it.
We bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee L in it's first model year, in September of 2021. We went with the Limited 4X4 with the panoramic sunroof. We traded in our 2013 Honda Odyssey to get it, and in all honesty we regret it. Don't get me wrong, I do LIKE the car, but I just don't love it. And that Odyssey was actually way more comfortable as a family car. Here's the thing, we are a family of 5 and can fit everyone in here, but it just isn't nearly as comfortable as the Odyssey was, even though it has newer, fancier tech and features. The cabin feels too much like a cockpit, and there's just nowhere to PUT anything. My wife carries a purse, and there is nowhere to put it, so it usually ends up stuck at her side. The armrest in the middle front is nice and cushy but NOT sharable. (If you watch the driver transition, you'll see exactly what I mean.) I also really got sucked in by the Uconnect system, but it's honestly been pretty buggy. Wireless android auto works, but not reliably. I do like how it drives, the power is plenty for me, and it is great in the snow, which is important for us in Wisconsin. Still, if we had to do it over again, we would not get the Jeep.
My wife and I test drove the Grand Cherokee L Overlands... one with the V6 and the other with the V8. Hands down, the V8 was the superior powertrain. It ran much quieter at highway speed. The V6 was very coarse and let you know it was working very hard moving that mass around. We ended up buying the V8. Good balance of power and smoothness for the vehicle. On the drive from the dealership on the interstate at 70mph I was seeing 19.1mpg.
I traded in my old Jeep 2015 for a new Jeep Grand Cherokee L Limited yesterday. I'm enjoying my new ride and the engine sounds so low and smooth. Got it for sales the price was $52k and it dropped to $48k
Just picked up a 2023 GCL Limited 4x4 and it was exactly as you guys described, the minivan alternative. I personally wanted a minivan, but needed something a bit more rugged for the extended outdoor vacations with the family. So far very happy. UConnect is a tad buggy, but not unbearable. Kids and I are happy. We'll see how reliable it is.
Bought the first gen 2021 Limited new. 22kish now. Like it more than I thought I would (it's my wife's car). Put 3k miles on it in one trip this summer, three adults, three kids in. Used to drop Android wireless randomly but resolved since latest software update. Zero issues with it
I have the jeep grand L Alt at $50K and I love it. But a lot of the things noted r true. I don't view the piano black as cheap looking though it's silly because hard to keep smudge-free. And, yes, the connect is unpredictable with an Android. Otherwise, I feel good driving the jeep. It makes me feel ready for all worlds
Yeah, I have a GC and it is tough for $75K + for a Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler that is not a Hellcat. They can have all the luxo features but still we have to deal with their sub $30K dealer network. They are NOT any were near $100k dealer customer support network. Trust me you will be visiting the dealer!
Hi, from Japan!! I understand why it is over $70K. The price is for “Ugly Crying” and “God View”!! I think vehicles which have “God View” will be increased more and more in the future. Personally, I cannot wait for your review for Mazda CX-90!!
We bought a 23 overland with the v8 and we love it. It crushes anything I’d do off payment and is awesome in all weather conditions that we’ve faced so far. We picked this due to the size which allows us to fit in parking garages a bit better when we go to the city. We mainly shopped this against German suv’s as people movers but we needed a higher tow rating. I’m surprised anyone shops these against Honda and kia’s.
The front upper bumper chin is hideous. How that made it through design blows my mind. Its time to redesign the (the very reliable) Pentastar V6 and increase displacement and accommodate the weight and size of that vehicle. Otherwise a nice vehicle that will price out better in a lower trim level.
2 of my relatives both got new family SUVs last year. One got a palisade calligraphy and other a Grand Cherokee L overland v6. What surprised me most was how much more refined the palisades drivetrain felt, engine was smooth and sounded good, and the shifts were imperceptible. The jeep felt and sounded lethargic power wise, but overall more solid, and the added features you can get like the air suspension and imo much more classy, yet aggressive, styling would make that my choice.
I don't get the obsessing over the price as a Grand Cherokee L Limited is nicely appointed for 50-55k. I also disagree on the power of the V6, I've driven a Grand Cherokee L many times and the V6 is fine around town or on the highway.
It's almost like it needs a 400 hp TT straight 6. Come on Jeep! What are you waiting for? Put the turbo 6 as an option in all Cherokees. Even if it's the lower output version.
We looked at these in late 21 and found the V6 and extensive use of piano black unbearable. At the time the V8's were hard to come by so we did not drive one. Instead went for a MDX A-Spec which is a far better choice and value than this.
I don't prefer it either. But what is interesting is that you don't hear too many reviewers or owners of Porsche's complaining about the use of piano black in these cars/SUVs.
might as well go wagoneer @$73k , now this could be a serious overlander, no 3rd row ,solid rear axle and trail rated ,off road package , trail hawk but no
grand Cherokee overland 2 row with the off road group gets a low range is their best off-roader. that no dealers will order it that way no more v8 in 2row
They have increased the price and taken content out of it. Look at all that cheap black piano inside, which is even worse in Limited and Laredos that most buy. Limited now has vinyl seats. Too bad. The engine transmission is solid. They just had a recall for suspension that can cause catastrophic accidents. I take a Honda Pilot or wait for new Toyota 4-Runner.
At $73K, you're practically knocking on the door of an MDX Type-S ($75K), which is a lot more fun to drive, better packaged, and will still fit most of the family comfortably. It still has a lot of piano black, but at least it's not as annoying on that of the Jeep and the infotainment isn't touch. If you're in the market, save yourself 10 grand and go with other competitors like the CX-90, Pilot, Telluride etc.

The problem of the $70k+ of these is that there is an actual luxury brand SUV that's also capable off road and feel better driving it 90% of time and looks better, and those are called Land Rover Defender. That's what my choice $73k Defender 130s, which feel smooth on road, and more capable off road. The only concern is reliability, but compared to Jeep, not better or worse at this age.
I've come to a similar conclusion. Reliability is a question. But when the time comes to repair a Jeep, the parts will be more available and less costly to buy and install. What you don't get it the status of a JLR product (depending on where you are).

Limited seems to be the sweet spot. All the tech you need. Good handling RWD-based platform. Decent third row for a kid. Super lease deals.

Stellantis products often disappoint.
If you want minivan-like space, you need to get a minivan or full size suv

There is nothing wrong with the 3.6 Pentastar. I have this engine in three of my vehicles, including a 2021 Grand Cherokee Summit five-passenger.

I still think I'd get the 4xe shorter version. They are well- discounted as well.
Paul complained earlier this year in a podcast episode that the designers never win
The piano black that you hated is what happens when designers win

Palisades are plastic cracking nightmares and very unreliable drivetrain. Hyundai and Kia have sooo many documented issues.

That is a Summit trim, not a Summit Reserve. You can tell from the wheels alone, but there are other details that set them apart.
It's rugged, aka all the u joints fail at 30,000 miles just outside of the warranty.

I refuse to believe a V8 three row SUV gets 20mpg highway. That with a V8 will get 14mpg everywhere. For over 70k.
Just got a GX460…23 mpg at 70 mph. At elevation too. 6000 ft. So it’s possible. That said, at 80+ on the interstate…17-18ish.
I'm pretty sure they said in the video the V8 will get 14-15 MPG.
