Hell yeah Alex! To finish the trinity of early Metallica is awesome bro🤘.
When this came out in 83 it took my head off. Overnight I went from Mötley Crüe and Ratt and Quiet Riot to Metallica, Slayer, Venom, Mercyful Fate, Exciter,Raven etc.
Ya gotta do the whole album dude! Metallica's 40th anniversary and the black albums 30th.
If you really wanna go back check out on TH-cam their 82 demo No Life Til Leather demo with Cliff Burton and Dave Mustaine or their early live performances with McGovney and Mustaine. You'll hear how young they were and how they really did spearhead thrash metal.
This is the album that started it all.

Now you know why there are “old school” Metallica fans and new ones. Imagine being like 15 in the mid 80s and this album finally makes it to your area- remember this happened with no radio play on most of the country. This was touring and word of mouth and some metal magazines. My life changed forever and to this day I’m a huge fan and listen to Metallica everyday on my way to work. This album started it all.

I so relate dude, was 13 when i heard Ride in 87, i lived in Portugal and this was pre internet era, so to get a band like Metallica even in 87 was not easy, but a friend of mine knew i liked Iron Maiden and told me, hey you probably like this band and handed me the vinyl of Ride, as soon as i heard the first chords of Fight fire with fire, it was game over. Then i searched for more and found Master and after Kill ‘em all. Those were the days. And my life, musically, was never the same as these guys served as a gateway band to a lot of other bands, Sepultura, Megadeth, Slayer, etc.

James was barely 20 years old here and they were changing the music world.
True story: I bought this album as a kid and my mom returned it. It was the version that had the Am I Evil? bonus track. She saw that and the cover and was convinced it was satanic. To top it off, she saw the title of this song, Hit The Lights, and was convinced it was a song about telling kids to go out and throw rocks at the street lights, because apparently some kids had done that in our neighborhood at some point. Needless to say I was not a happy camper. I finally re-bought it several years later when I was older and had my own money but sadly it no longer had the bonus tracks on it

    • @MrsBungle78

Haha! Parents suck sometimes! When I was a teenager I got heavily into The Doors. My mum decided I was obsessed because I spent all day reading “No One Here Gets Out Alive”, so she confiscated it, & my music, until she read it herself & deemed it appropriate! To be honest, I was surprised that she gave it back to me! At least I got mine back though, your mum must’ve been a real hard-ass! 😂 I wouldn’t dream of confiscating my daughters music, in fact, sometimes I’m disappointed in her soft choices in music!

Although it is "heavier" in sound do to its really tight, low, distorted chugging that doesn't mean its a Heavy Metal song, and a Heavy Metal song is always going to be Heavier then a Hard Rock song. Speed Metal is still heavy, which is why it is a sub genre for Heavy Metal.

I absolutely love Metallica and they were the reason I started playing guitar over 30 years ago. But Diamond Head basically had all the ingredients of Hit The Lights on their track "Helpless" off their album "Lighting to the Nations" which was a big influence on Metallica. And the intro to this song was lifted from a Blue Öyster Cult track from 1973 called "The Red & The Black".

34 years ago as an 11 year old I spent my summer holidays immersing myself in the mysteries of Heavy Metal through the wonders of 90 minute cassette tapes with fuzzy, multiply recorded albums by all the greats Maiden, Priest, Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, Sabbath, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Culture Club. And my favouritest (deliberate sic) of all was Metallica. 'Ride', 'Master' and 'Kill 'em All' all in one go!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯 Maybe because I was still so young myself, the youthful energy and exhilarating joy for volume and bombast that Metallica exuded just captivated my straight away. They have been my favourite band ever since and though I love almost all of their albums (Lulu - DISOWNED and St Anger - the disappointment of the family but still has its qualities) for me 'Kill 'Em All' eloquently distills 'why I love Metal' into one awesome album.
Please react to it all Alex, or the Sandman will put headphones on you while you are asleep and make you listen to Justin Bieber on a loop singing "Baby, baby, baby oh!" all night long!🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

During the making of Hardwired...To Self Destruct Kirk Hammett talks about the recording process for the solos on Kill 'Em All and he said "I only used the first bar to get started, the rest I did my own thing." So, the meat of the solo is all Kirk. He also said the same thing on a video where they were talking about the making of Kill 'Em All. I don't know how people can't tell its Kirk playing? Just listen to the demos! Truth be told, Kirks solos are better than Dave's on the demos!

All solos are kirks and many things on the album is James and Lars. Take hit the lights, it’s the first song they wrote, only James and Lars, when they made it on to metal massacre they weren’t even a full band, but they got Ron Mcgovney and a guy named Lloyd Grant played guitar. Get over Dave and Metallica. He wrote riffs for the band for only like one year. Kirk, James and Lars have been there for all the years since.

@@MikeBannShow I still have some of my "kerrang" magazines from mid '95 where the band point out that the then unreleased "Load' would be "groovier" 'looser" and "greasier". A more hard , heavy rock sound that harked back to their pre Thrash metal likings when they listened to more classic rock based sounds. Mixx that with some Black Album behemoths, and boom, Load.
And your right- Its not perfect. Some of its weaker tracks to me could have been ommited and in general I still wonder how it would have been if, the best of Load&Reload were one single album. That would have been immense.
But overall, Theres some awesome stuff there!! Ill always love the darkened grooves of "The house that Jack Built". And Tony Iommi's doom laden genius is all over "Bleeding Me" and Outlaw Torn and Fixxxer. Listen to Sabbaths 'I' or Electric Funeral for that influence on those.
