    Those 4 years with Metallica were enough to put him in the top 10 metal bassists of all time, just imagine if his tragic death didn't happen, so sad to see such a talent who was living his life to the fullest and loving what he did. Did not deserve what happened to him.

They both went out in crashes that were completely out of their control, another that comes to mind is Dimebag. @@moody2552 Dave Mustaine had a lot do with Kill'em all and Ride the lightning but Cliff really had a greater impact the direction they were going and why his passing was so tragic. Kind of crazy to think about how AJFA would have turned out with Cliff input. Cliff brought some of more progressive elements in things like Call of Cthulhu, From Whom the bell tolls, Orion, and MOP definitely had. Still Dave brought a lot of song writing to Metallica (Phantom Lord, Hit the Lights, Four horsemen, and fight fire with fire). By the time MoP was around, Dave song writing influence was mostly gone.

    Cliff was the G.O.A.T. We have 3 years of recorded evidence that people are still talking about 35 years after his death. He taught the band about harmonies and melodies structure that, to this day, still helps Metallica be the powerhouse band they are. No other bass player showed the innovation, flow, creativity or plain old badass-ery that Cliff did by the age of 24(his age when he died), much less by 21 (his age when Kill 'Em All as recorded.) His influence on his contemporaries and future players cannot be overstated. It would be impossible to count their numbers.They easiest way to say it would be "All of them". On top of that, everybody who met Cliff testifies to how personable, down to earth, and cool he was. His influence on Metallica is still seen today. He was The Greastest Of All Time.

      @@Enterjudas1 I’m not saying that would be my preference - just that it’s often debated amongst metal fans. If I could choose between the two, I’d pick Cliff every single time. Mustaine writes some pretty cool riffs and is arguably a more virtuosic soloist compared to Kirk, but his playing can also sound a bit robotic, whereas Kirk is a much more expressive player with more emotional weight conveyed through his solos.

    • @jademonolith
      @jademonolith 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@xtldc I'm a huge Mustaine fan but I agree with this 100%. Dave's solos are mostly contained within pentatonic and blues shapes. When Metallica was looking for a bass player, they got word about Cliff. They went to a show he was playing, and they saw him, on the stage, hunched over, head bobbing, hair bouncing around and they were blown away. Also funny side note, When Metallica started playing shows, there was a group of die hard fans, with the word Metallica stitched one the back of their jackets in big letters. They would go to shows Metallica was playing, and stand in the crowd with their back to the bands playing until Metallica came on. They're one of the bands that definitely changed the music scene.

    both on the album and at that show this song feeds right into Whiplash, it's fucking amazing. RIP Cliff, Jason did a magnificent job in his absence though and one of the best performances of Whiplash was in 1989 in Seattle with Jason. This show and the studio with Cliff is just as godly, though. Fucking legendary, all of them. From when the band had Cliff and Dave to Jason to modern Metallica even now when they have a crab as a bassist, fucking legendary

    Cliff's play style can seem relatively tame compared to some of the crazy stuff modern bassists do, but make no mistake, he's the reason those modern bassists can do that stuff on a big stage. I doubt there would have been a Les Claypool with a Cliff Burton.

    Dude it was crazy, nothing like it before. My oldest brother saw them in ‘84 during their tour with Armored Saint and Wasp…dubbed the 2 outta 3 aint bad tour.
    Yeah, he said Armored Saint was really good, but Metallica were just fucking nuts…it was the first time he’d ever heard them, I remember him talking about it the next day. And just saying “they came out and said we’re Metallica from California, and we play really fast…and we’re gonna kick your fuckin ass!” And then they just went off!!!”
    He went there to see Wasp, and like most of the crowd, he left by Wasps second song in!!!
