Fighting for freedom means fighting Americans that would take it away. Not killing people in 3rd world dumps. People in 3rd world dumps want to kill Americans because politicians send soldiers to kill them. It's a never ending cycle that politicians won't break because it makes them money and they get their thrill from controlling peoples lives.

@Zachary Trent absolutely right. And as I often say, everyone worshiped Lars - and rightly so - and nobody ever gave him a hard time or a bad write-up until Napster. Then it became cool to be a Lars hater. I can’t imagine a single drummer who has had more global influence than this goofy Danish tennis player. People are absolutely green with envy, and it shows. Lars is a man among men, and freaking nobody loves fans more than he does. He’s an amazing human being and my life is vastly better for his being in it. Oh, and he was spot on about Napster, too

Being a veteran from that time period (I served from 1987-1994) I can say on the one hand that this song was my anthem after I spent my first few years in uniform and HATED that I was the property of the US Government. But now, so many years later despite what I did not like my time in service, my overall feeling of that time is one filled with pride and I am glad I did and would gladly do it again. But There were very few cowards and no one blindly followed anyone. We followed orders but often enough we didn't always agree with them. I've seen plenty of guys face disciplinary action for questioning or disregarding orders they considered unlawful. Still an awesome song, but it is a rather shallow view of what it's like to actually be in the military...at least how it was in the late 80's early 90's

And then on the very last "back to the front," James really drags out the "frooont." It's those kinds of details, other bands just don't write like this. No one else will make you feel things quite like Metallica does. It just wrenches your gut.

Non-expendable (tanks, jeeps, etc), Durable (tools, weapons, things that break but must be turned it for replacement, and expendable (pencils, pens, etc). At the time I was in, soldiers were expendable. A company was allotted a certain amount of, for example, corporals. If a corporal got "expended", we simply ordered a new one. The right hand of Hetfield...the down picking god himself.
I’m still amazed by the video of him playing with Machine Head and down picking the main riff of Aesthetics of Hate.

It's always a good time watching you react to music i know for decades now. It shows me things i never knew or heard in a song. I analyze with you.
That's how I came up with this: the last couple seconds it sounds like the song is ending, but then it pushes out one last power punch.
It's like it represents that the soldier had to get back to the front and then dies because his General tells him to die.
    Shit's deep

When you hear songs like this masterpiece it's easier to understand why fans that grew up on Metallica's classic period would feel so disappointed in Metallica's radio years in the 90's. It seems like a completely different band that might have been influenced by the original Metallica, lol.

@@prettyviolence I actually think the snare sounds really good. It's a good match with the type of music of the album. The thing I don't like about st anger, Is most songs are to long
