The moment you mentioned the math in this book, I went to Amazon and bought a (used) copy! I have my undergrad in math - although I started out wanting to be an engineer! I'm five feet tall and wear a U.S 5.5 to 6 shoes so I love watching your updates and how things fit you; they tend to fit me the same way! Anyway, my book came today and I already measured my foot! Can't wait to read the rest. I don't think I've commented on your videos before, but I truly love them! My friend is also a true lefty knitter, too. Cheers!
Gorgeous projects. Can’t wait to see you Kuutar wrap blocked and on. I think I may pivot my KFO stash to copy you, though Sari’s Calliope pattern is still calling to me. I’ve knit 3 DRK Everyday sweaters and they are my workhorses. I wear them routinely. The fit and weight are just perfect. I hope you love yours.
This was going to be my first sweater project! I have tried to start it a couple times but don't feel I'm a proficient pattern reader yet...going to do a different follow along sweater video on TH-cam and then pick it up again
I am so excited to hear about your custom sock experiment. I have been trying to figure this out for myself for almost 2 years. I must find this book! Thank you for sharing this info!
Ooh i love a bit of nerdy maths, although I kind of can't be bothered doing the maths, but also kind of love the idea of custom fit socks. I already do a larger foot size compared to leg (wide foot problems 🙄), but curious about the instep area...hmmm...maybe for my next sock...
I loved the segment on custom socks, and your finished sock is gorgeous! Great color combo. You and Kay of Crazy Sock Lady have influenced me to finally try sock knitting recently, and I love it so much that after finishing my first pair I immediately cast on for my second! I’m excited for Kay’s Summer Sock Camp 2024 starting tomorrow! :)
I'm so invested in your custom fit sock story! Really looking forward to hearing about how they wear in a future episode, I'm an engineer myself too so I do like numbers hehe🤓
Yes! I LOVE that custom sock book!! It was so helpful in deepening my understanding of sock and foot structure. As soon as you started talking about your perfect socks I was thinking of recommending it, and then you pulled it out! 😄🧦
Thanks Amy. Your wrap cardigan looks beautiful and I love the way you moved the "hole" for the cord down to your waist. I would need to do the same. Perfect to have an engineer review the maths of sock customisation! Looks great🥰
That is totally cool about the formulas for fitting socks! I’m a dietitian and use math daily in my work and I love math. I’m just starting my very first pair of socks and will definitely be getting that book. Thank you for sharing 😊
10:38 i have a tip for this actually! i literally always slip the first stitch of a round when i'm working back and forth, and for the longest time my drop shoulder pieces had those huge gaps where i picked up. what you should do instead of picking up right into the edge, pick up into the center of the stitches in the NEXT column over from the edge. it does create a seam on the inside of the garment, but you really don't feel it, and the results look so clean and tidy.
I fall into the 2-3 inches of negative ease. I did Knitty Natty’s sock course and while my first sock did fit well, it wasn’t as tight as I would like. I ended up keeping my same formula and sizing down and needles and can confirm I have the perfect sock formula now.
I am going to meet Sari this weekend at Knitopia Philadelphia and will take several lessons with her. I love her designs. I am looking forward to seeing your finished cardigan.
Construction-wise I think there is a risk that the edge where you finished increases and started knitting straight will flare, without tension of the i-cord (if you attach it lower, at the level where you placed the hole. Just finished this cardigan and I get the look you are going for, the way is designed it does cinch in quite high on the torso. I think Sari may have done it so that it can be worn just over a bra and still provide enough coverage.
Can't wait to see your Kuutar sweater all done and blocked, it's turning out so pretty. Love the lace. I've already gone to Ravelry and saved the Hibernal socks, yours look fantastic!! I can't decide if I want to buy just the one pattern or just get the whole book!!! Thanks for enabling me, lol!! Love the podcast.🧶🧶🧶
As usual, very interesting and informative podcast! I'm a sock knitter, but feel every pair is a different journey as far as fit goes depending on the pattern and the yarn, but I would be interested to see if I can figure out my numbers and surprise surprise - I have that book gathering dust on my bookshelf! 🙃
Reference your Kutur Wrap cardigan sleeves - I think the more open stitches around the armhole result from the short row stitches, rather than the body slipped stitches. Although this sleeve design is used a lot, I am not always happy with how the join of the body and sleeve looks. I’ve tried different short row methods and knitting it tightly, but still get the same result. Regardless, it’s looking beautiful.
Love the idea of custom fit socks! Even though I've been knitting for a while I've only recently started playing around with patterns to achieve a custom fit or look. I think I see custom socks in my future!
When it comes to negative ease on socks, I actually have different experiences depending on the yarn/fiber I'm using, as well as the stitch pattern. I find that lace socks tend to stretch out the most over the day compared to vanilla/textured/colorwork socks, and merino socks also tend to stretch out a lot more than my other wool socks (most of my sock yarns just say "wool," which isn't super helpful). I actually don't use merino for socks anymore as I've found it's not durable enough for me - I wear my hand-knit socks under heavy boots, so they need to stand up to a lot of friction. There's an article on Interweave where Kate Atherley talks about her favorite sock yarns and why she likes them, and I've found her preferences to be pretty similar to my own in terms of durability.
Really cool podcast, thank you! Your cardigan looks really nice☺️ I juste bought the same quality at Guépard but in black. I just can’t wait to cast it on !!
Amy, I really liked the look of the sock-ribbing of your customized socks, I would think, to work the two socks differently may disturb you more if you compare them later… (sorry for my german english 🙈
I tested the Kuutar wrap and I ended up frogging it. The pickup at the sleeve bothered me so much. I also didn’t have enough stitches to pick up so I had to pick up multiples into the slipped stitches which exaggerated the holeyness even more. I also didn’t love how open the gauge was which is definitely a me problem. However I want this in my wardrobe so bad! I hope you end up loving yours!!
Hi Amy, a stellar episode as usual. The custom fit socks journey seems very worthwhile and I'm going to look for the book in my local library. I wonder if you would comment on the decision to start including sponsorships on your podcast. Quite a few knitting podcasters have started doing it and I presume it's all about getting a better financial return on your efforts, and it's hard to argue with that. But as someone who already pays to avoid ads (YT premuim), I am a bit gutted that I'm getting ads anyway. Anyway, it would be good to hear your thoughts before I complain too much, and probably most people don't care.
I call that height of your hibernal sock a “quarter crew”. I think I’d like that sock book. I’m a math person, started out as a math major, but switched to Architecture. Does the book only use the heel flap and gusset heel?
Does the sock book also talk about selecting a heel based on your foot profile? I just ordered that book. I am a former engineer and a current tech writer, and this sounds fun! (I also make my socks with 64 stitches.)
Oh, one more thing I MUST say. At one point you said "I casted on". "Casted" is not a word and I want to avoid introducing it to our language. The correct language is "I cast on". I only mention it because vloggers are influencers. :)
I wonder if you like your socks tight because of your need for a short gusset? I would expect that the heel of a standard sock with 70 stitches is way too big for you and so you’ve gravitated to the very tight socks to get the better heel fit?
Nice socks! Loving the DRK sweater, great color!

Your Hibernal socks are so gorgeous! I would love to see a sock ranking video 👌
So interesting to hear about your custom fit socks! I also think I have a very low arch and maybe I need this book to see how to modify my socks
Thanks so much for your Oslo tour, I followed your footsteps today and had a great time, we ended up in The Salmon and had such a fun time xxx
Love the socks. I agree that both sock books are good books. Another enjoyable episode.
Learning to cable without a cable needle has been an absolute game changer for me - highly recommend!
I am so excited to hear about your custom sock experiment. I have been trying to figure this out for myself for almost 2 years. I must find this book! Thank you for sharing this info!

I eagerly await your videos every 2 weeks!!! Thank you for the content

Oh, I really should be trying to knit the perfect socks for myself. It is a process! Love your Kuutar Wrap!

Ooh, this is a great idea. I am gonna have to try this!
Love your podcast, your makes, flow and speed of information. I am also in Canada.
NE Knits, Your videos always make me happy, so I subscribed!

Your Kuutar Wrap looks amazing 🩶 also your Custom socks 🧦 seems perfect fit 💚
Love the socks and cardigan, what a great knitter you are!
Oooh that Kutaar Top looks so good on you! Also, your hair looks very nice today 🌷
I am going to meet Sari this weekend at Knitopia Philadelphia and will take several lessons with her. I love her designs. I am looking forward to seeing your finished cardigan.
I’m always so happy to see a new posting by you. This was another great one! I think I want to knit the no. 1 tee now!

Oh my goodness I need that book! I am in love with your kuutar wrap cardigan. I can’t wait to see the finished piece ❤
The custom socks book has been one that I recommend to everyone for years. It's so good!

The color of the DRK sweater is gorgeous!! 💜😍💜 I'm a brand new knitter (long-time crocheter), and I love watching your videos!

Thanks for the tips regarding sock knitting. I love knitting socks. Think it is time also measure.
Love the color of your DRK Everyday Sweater. 💜The Asopo Cardigan has a very interesting construction.

Girl thank you! I hate knitting socks with Arwetta. So splitty and it pills like crazy!!
Really cool podcast, thank you! Your cardigan looks really nice☺️

Hello from Swansea, Illinois.
Amy, I really liked the look of the sock-ribbing of your customized socks, I would think, to work the two socks differently may disturb you more if you compare them later… (sorry for my german english 🙈
That’s what I was thinking too. If it were me, I’d do the ribbing for an extra row on the second sock too so they’d match. 😂
can you use the custom sock formula on sock patterns other than the vanilla socks? I so appreciate your content!
I'm super interested in how your socks turn out after wearing them for a while! I love knitting socks and I'm always trying to improve the fit

Unrelated, but where did your teal tshirt come from? It has such a clean look
