A great point put forward by Ronald musagala. The government spends huge money on football yet they bring us nothing instead of athletics where medals are brought home
Considering the high altitude and the time set: 3:32-3:34 approximately. This is very promising talent for the winner. World class athlete in the making.
If it's at Kampala about 1050m elevation there is not much effect of altitude and they finished around 3:37 which is great time but yet not Olympic podium level performance, thought Uganda has talent because iconic runner is placing 3rd at national level.
@@hlulanizitha9920 every single 5000m and 10000m world record holder had ability to run enormous 1500m as training approach of 5000m includes lot of speed work and 1500m also includes aerobic base. Therefore placing 3rd in nationals automatically means there's very talented field in Uganda.
Daniel Komen's 3000m WR (7:20.67) from 1996 and his his 2-mile WR (7:58.61) from 1997 are the two toughest world records in athletics. If Cheptegei manages to get either it would be amazing.
It's not surprising at all, he has run 12:35 for 5000m and 26:11 for 10000m so should actually be potentially capable of 3:31 or better for 1500m. To get 3rd place in this field is hardly amazing, he would have expected at least that... It would be more amazing if he did it in a race full of high quality 1500m runners.
Sincerely speaking musagala musa is my OB AT IGANGA KING OF KINGS, THIS BOY WAS A GREAT ATHLETE, HE CUD RUN AND ROUNDUP HIS NUMBER 2, 3RAPS I FEAR THAT BOY

Great running by Musagala. Love watching Cheptegai though he does really need to work more on speed for middle distances like 1500m or 3000m to be WR-competitive. In May 2021, Joshua ran 3000m in 7’33” at the Ostrava Golden Spike meet, which works out roughly to 3’47”/1500m or a roughly 7% slowdown compared to his 3’37” time in this 150m race. A 6-8% slowdown when distance is doubled is very typical in this middle distances regime. So Joshua ran at the Ostrava event pretty much with the same power as in this race, but that is quite a ways away from El Guerrouj’s 3’26” or Komen’s even more unbelievable 7’20”, both standing for 23 years now!
joshua has more potential for the 3000m, in that meet (wr attempt) he attempted wr pace of 57 sec per lap which is insane and he burned out at the last 2 laps, just running 60 seconds per lap equates to 7:30, if he paces differently than wr joshua has to potential for a 7:25 or even lower, i agree komens wr for 3000m is out of this world.
No such thing as a Ugandan accent, Uganda has different accents depending on where you are from. When you go in East and center Uganda some of them sounds like Americans
I'm wondering if Cheptegei would be able to eventually crack this list since he holds the 5000m wr and has run some really fast 3000m but his 1500m is pretty slow since he doesn't train for that distance and it isn't really in his running range of distances. He definitely would have been number one if it had been 3000m, 5000m, and 10000m.
For those who think this is impressive, it is, but a number of longer distance runners have logged good 1500m times... Gebrselassie, Bekele, Kipchoge, Komen to name a few. I think it is Daniel Komen who has the best combined results of all in distances between 1500m and 10k. And he's the only guy to break 8 minutes for 2 miles (though I think El Guerrouj could have done so. he just never raced or attempted that distance seriously).
Komen does indeed has the best combined times but like you said elguerrouj could have done same or better in the 3000 and 5000m but that olympic gold in the 1500 that he was missing and chasing for 8 years kept him in the 1500 and he still beat bekele at his prime to win the 5000m olympic gold and ran the second fastest time in the 3000m in his first attempt .
@@ft1296 , Yeah, I was checking the 1500m times of aforementioned distance runners - (Gebrselassie, Bekele, Kipchoge, Komen) Komen is the only one to break 3:30 for 1500m. This is remarkable considering the famous finishing kicks of Geb. and Bekele in 5k and 10k. Komen didn't seem like a kicker, he could just sustain a high pace, it seems, sort of like Cheptegei. It was interesting to see the different running styles between Cheptegei and Peter (second place finisher). Peter has an unusual, upright posture for someone so long-legged. Obviously works for him. Do you remember John Ngugi? He was long-limbed but had forward leaning style more typical of Kenyans (and Cheptegei).
My God Martin-Cheptigai is JUST STARTING HIS CAREER dude----give him time he'll crush everyone & all the records he seriously wants---even Komen's great 7:20 3k. Komen wasn't serious at all about training--once he was successful he thought he'd arrived & stopped training like a world class athlete should. That's why is career is mega-short 1996/97 . Frankly he's 1 of my very most favorite athletes because-he never wore a watch or new splits or record times---he just ran--that's how he made Steve Cram sound very daft saying" he's on a suicide mission "---later eating those words after 7 min& 20 seconds!!!
@@tedallison6112 , I guess time will tell Ted. I see some parallels between Komen and Cheptegei in their running style and ability - a remarkable combination of power and efficiency over middle distance (1500m - 5000m). This seems to give them the ability to sustain a very high pace, right around 60 seconds per lap, for multiple laps. Absolutely amazing. I'm not sure how well this works for longer distances, on the road and cross country. Also, like Komen, Cheptegei appears to lack a "kick." the ability to go significantly faster at the end of the race (sub. 55 seconds). El Gueurrouj seemed to have this ability to sustain a high pace effortlessly, then switch gears or steamroller acceleration over the last 600,. Obviously sustaining a higher overall tempo impacts ability to kick. Curious to know what Komen's or Cheptegei's 800m times were/are.
