If you want something done in your constituency you've really got to vote in local elections - it's councils who are responsible for that not national government. And national government need to be able to have capable leaders. Leaving it to a postcode lottery as to who is electable is nonsense. What if Winston Churchill had happened to live in a Labour or Liberal safe seat? We just miss out on a capable war time leader because of a geography lottery? And as I said, what you're suggesting wouldn't even stop parachuting candidates, it would just mean only rich parties could do it. And smaller parties would be marginalised even more.

It's impossible to vote if not registered to vote. There's about 8 million people not registered to vote. Tuesday 18 June 2024 is the final day that people can be registered to vote in the general election on Thursday 4 July 2024. There's about 2.5 million people who are registered to vote who don't have valid Photo ID or Voter Authority Certificate or Anonymous Electors Document. Automatic Voter Registration would mean everyone accessing public services would automatically be registered to vote and have the option to vote if they want to.
Funnily enough, I live in a tory "safe" seat at the last election the local tory (he's a back bencher who name I can't be arsed to remember) had a margin of 10K votes I wonder who's going to replace him, if someone more "important" needs a seat.

The Tories have used the fact that that person is recovering from spinal surgery to sideline them in favour of Ross because they think it’s a safer seat. Farage was probably always going to be the Reform UK candidate for Clacton, it’s symbolic because it’s the only Parliamentary seat his party (when it was UKIP) ever held. Hopefully Ross sidelining someone who was already the MP will backfire, and I doubt Farage can win, he’ll probably just split the Tory vote and hand the seat to Labour.
