I never slept - watched the entire overnight coverage because it was the best available. This morning I checked out some of the other coverage by Sky & ITV & such ..... by far Channel 4 had the best teams providing analysis.
At one point in the overnight coverage, they got feedback from an in-studio audience sitting around tables & one woman told Nadine she was a delusional idiot who needed her head checked. 😂
You mentioned that the Tories were ousted entirely from Wales but you failed to mention they were also completely ousted from Cornwall where they previously held every constituency.
I do not buy the argument of Reform either. Yes I see the effect, however, why should the Conservatives have the monopoly on the right wing votes? We have Labour, Lib Dems and the Greens contending for the left. It is called competition, they will have to deal with it. You could make the argument that if you put Lib Dems, Greens and Labour votes together, they would win most seats.
Not just them but plaid and SNP are left of centre also. It really says a lot that the first time the Tories face any real competition from the right they collapse

It's not beyond the wit of man to be able to copy the figures from the other broadcasters and have them up on the screen swiftly. The other broadcasters put the constituency counts up in real-time as they're being read out by the Returning Officer, I'm sure Channel 4 could have done something similar for the exit poll.
Channel 4 showing more forgiveness than I would hiring Nadine Dorries for their panel. I hope you showed her the accounts and try to explain what a "not for profit corporation" meant?? 🤭 Why did you give her any airtime??

nadine and kwasi oohh and ahhing, as if they are listening to bingo numbers being called. The fact that they dont have the ability to realize that they are in part responsible for this mess, shows how deeply detached from reality they are.
Historic swing? Only because the Tory vote collapsed. But it did not go to Labour. They got 500,000 fewer votes than 2019. A 1.5% increase in the share of the vote on a turnout that fell by around around 9%. A majority of over 170 on 33.7% of the votes cast. That is the lowest ever percentage of the vote to deliver a majority government let alone one with such a big majority. The second lowest was also a Labour victory. Their last one in 2005 when Tony Blair got his last victory with less than 36% of the vote. Once again the opinion polls have over estimated the Labour vote share. They had Labour on 40% or fairly close to that. In reality, the Labour vote was well below 40% and hardly increased it's share at all from 2019. In pure numbers it actually fell. The first election winning party this side of WW2 to receive fewer than 10 million votes. Clearly people had had enough of the Tories, but they did not switch to Labour in any great numbers at all. The Tory vote went elsewhere.
I watched every minute of your overnight election livestream because it was too exciting to sleep. As always, Channel 4 provides balanced & fair coverage, appropriate scrutiny, & viewpoints from all ideologies. The rise of the far-right populists in the U.K., USA, & Europe is a terrifying prospect whose danger only grows because of social media misinformation & disinformation. Please continue pushing back against false narratives. Because I'm in the USA, it's hard for me to fully comprehend the apprehension about mandates, majorities, & proportional representation replacing "first past the post" since we are still a 2 party political system for now... but even with 4 or 5 MPs in Parliament, Nigel Farage will be a constant thorn in the side of the government... just as he was a constant thorn in the side of the EU Parliament until he finally caused the Brexit referendum to come to fruition. Social media misinformation financed by bad actors was the main reason the British voted to commit financial suicide for the entire country by intentionally leaving a global market trading block. Same reason Trump was President here, and many of the same bad actors & foreign oligarchs were behind both, too.
Couldn't agree more, well said. I am an American but have been following the European and UK elections. This UK GE has been thrilling. I really hope Keir and his cabinet can make change, but actions speak louder than words.
@silondon9010 Way more balanced than the vast majority of British newspapers or the way the BBC has behaved like state media the last several years. The basic reason for freedom of the press is to search for the truth by scrutinizing the government & holding them to account for the people they serve by speaking truth to power. Democracy only functions properly when the powerful are not allowed to gaslight people with lies & huge billboards on the sides of buses showing lines of Muslim immigrants or telling falsehoods about increased NHS funding by voting to leave the EU. So who do you think is "balanced"? GB News or Novaria Media (or whatever it's called) that still backs Jeremy Corbyn? 😂🤣😂
I should imagine more voters might have possibly come out if not for the new voter ID requirements. I know of some people who didn't for this reason. I know the argument is these people had plenty of time to sort one out in time but the reality is this will still happen and they'll be voters who would have missed out.
