    IMPORTANT:
    This video is all about education. It's designed to give aspiring pilots and air traffic controllers a taste of real-world situations through example scenarios and helpful info. But that's not all! Current pilots and controllers can also benefit by listening to real radio communications from around the globe. This helps them stay sharp and think about how they might handle similar situations in the future.
    To create these videos, I keep my ear to the ground on major aviation news and events. I check the dates and time zones to see if I can find recordings of the radio conversations. Then, I become a bit of a broken record myself, listening to them repeatedly to create subtitles and identify key moments. Finally, I whip up some animations (or grab them from ADS-B websites) and pull it all together into a neat package.

    That radio traffic reminded me of Red Dwarf
    HOLLY: They're all dead. Everybody's dead, Dave.
    Holly: “Gordon Bennett! Yes, Everyone. Everybody’s dead, Dave”
    Lister: “Rimmer? “
    Holly: “He’s dead, Dave. Everybody is dead. Everybody is dead, Dave.”
    Lister: “Wait. Are you trying to tell me everybody’s dead”
    Holly: “Should’ve never let him out in the first place....”

    She just needs to say "all runways are closed".

    These people...just say, "The airport is closed at this time". The guys in the air don't need all that other information.

    Too much talking from everyone. Runway is closed. No need for details cluttering up the radio that are unnecessary.

    Rumor has it that Venice may or may not have an open runway.

      It is uncontrolled airspace and airport there is no ciosed or open. Unicom is advisory only no authority regarding traffic in the air or ground.

      The part that they couldn’t hear. Because it’s a non-towered field so there’s no ATIS and no way to get updates until you tune in.

    FL pilots can be something else. Once at Venice a few seconds after I announced I was starting a short approach runway 5, some lady decided to pull out and announce she was going to “line up and wait”… And then as I announce I’m going around…. She starts her take off roll to begin climbing out from beneath me….
    Miraculously she survived long enough for me to hear her the next day up at KZPH.
    “Zephyrhills traffic sky divers jumping 2 minutes do not overfly the field”
    Next call - dingus girl - “5 to the east will be over flying the field for a tear drop runway 5”
    It took about 6 calls between the jump plane and I before she caught on that she needed to enter the pattern another way. Otherwise I 100% believe she would have been chancing it with the meat rain.

    Is 23 open? 🤦🏽‍♀️

  • @sintillate1913
    @sintillate1913 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

    Lots of non-standard phraseology contributed to the confusion. Instead of repeatedly saying "we have gear up on 23" which is ambiguous ("gear" could mean several things including "arresting gear" to a Navy pilot), how about just saying what it is "we have a disabled aircraft on runway 23". The cause of the aircraft being disabled is irrelevant. And instead of listing the numbers of the closed runways when it is all of the runways, how about just "all runways are closed" or better yet "the airport is closed".

      It is a local airport that I frequent and the local “old timers” that fly there have the absolute worst radio I’ve heard. TBH this video is probably one of the better days I’ve heard

    • @SeaHusker54
      @SeaHusker54 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I mean they should have started with "The Airport is CLOSED" instead of stating which runways are closed. This isn't LAX, and the local traffic kept getting confused.

    • @billfly2186
      @billfly2186 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SeaHusker54 I agree. But many uncontrolled fields wouldn't have anybody in the FBO helping direct on the radio. You'd be relying on other pilots and some idiot might actually land on 23. So kudos to the FBO person for jumping on. I've been to fields were the only person at the FBO is a high school kid who knows nothing.

    These pilots don't get it. The airport is Closed! Obviously, they just didn't want to hear that. The one pilot said, good thing we have enough fuel. Well that's your problem pilot. I've had to divert countless times for lots of strange reasons at many airports.

    • @arctain1
      @arctain1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I didn’t take it as snarky - just an ‘out-loud’ confirmation that he had enough to divert… a way of saying “I’m glad I planned well enough to divert!!!”

      @@alexmiller7721 - nothing saying he had to divert. He just commented that he had enough TO divert... or hang around for an hour or so. Either way, he was good. No angst or anger... just thanking himself for flight planning well :)

    Eh I think the pilot of N14814 probably needs a talking to from the FAA. Nothing crazy but he repeatedly got information and then just kept pushing everyone. After watching it again he might need something official. This isn’t cool to do while someone’s just been in a plane crash. It puts people in danger.

      Reciprocal headings for each runway would need to be covered too (05/23 13/31), clearer just to say the airport is closed, go somewhere else.
