The fact that the gt86 is compared to a megane rs (cup or non cup) is just silly, gt86 comes closer to a clio but nowhere near megane

if the gt 86 was tested with the primacy (it must have since it came with those tires only back then) it didn't stand a chance with a car which probably wore sport cup. Same tire and it would run within a second of the megane being more fun and preparing you for a future sport car with more power (RWD). Having said so Vicky s legs looked really good in this one ahahah
Meganes came with Pilot Sport 2 or Bridgestone RE050A. Only the final 275 variants had Cup tyres as an option in some markets.
@@minimumtrade I see, but still, the primacy are eco tires, terrible in terms of grip, the gt 86 also has more like 180hp when dynoed. How many second gap would you reckon there are in between the two cars on this track. I don t know the track I just guess the time gap per minutes between a track day tire and a primacy

@@minimumtrade The megane is on 19's in this clip, it has the red stripe on the rim, so it's on Bridgestones, almost every test back in the day said they were much better handling cars on 18's with Michelins. Evo ran an RS 265 for 6 months on 19's and 6 months on 18's and concluded 19's were only good for looks, personally I think the 19" Steev's look awful compared to stock 18" tibors

this is more testing the individual driver's skill instead of the capabilities of the car...if they wanted real results they would have have switched drivers each rounds or something...
This test is completely irrelevant, no cup chassis for this megane plus vicki doesn't drive as well as tiff. Utterly useless testing.

As someone who owns the same Megane I'll agree that the handbrake is kinda crappy. Also I agree, that limiter comes up really quick when it kicks in. Otherwise it's a beautiful car to drive.

A fun non-serious comparison obviously. If Tiff was driving both and doing a proper track time comparison the RS would demolish the GT everytime. Being able to drift a car is only one element of fun, the RS in Cup and non-cup is still bags of driver loving fun and much more capable, plus easily upgraded to be even more powerful. GT is more comparable to a Clio RS. Both great drivers cars.

GT86 carries more speed through the corners 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that's ridiculous how untrue it is. I bet RS 265 cup can go at least 30-40 kmh faster in every corner before that gt86 breaks traction.

Rwd in non supercars just isn't totally right. Unintentional oversteer is very dangerous and annoying, sure your reflex (if you are a good driver) will sort that out by counter steering, modulating throttle input and so on but still you don't want to have any possibility of unintentional oversteer at all... Rwd is best suited for track focused supercars, you can't see them unintentionally oversteering because they have so much grip...
@@supposedly6991 Nah, luxury cars are all rwd. Fwd can not be as comfortable as rwd through corners at the same speed.
Fwd is only good with hot hatch or kei cars due to the short body.

A fun not serious test. This is a Apple vs orange test. If the cars were similar power and weight you would see RWD cleanup. Just imagine if you detuned the boost on the Megane RS to 200hp or the new 2.4 86 was tested? Still most young people have grow up on FWD and manufactures build there performance vehicles of those platforms. RWD is basically dead except for a few cases, sigh 😔
Turbo GT86's making around 300hp with the "standard" track mods i.e. Coilovers, wider wheels and tyres, better brakes etc. Do almost identical lap times to Meganes with similar mods. They're both extremely capable cars.
The RS cheap GT3 nothing will beat a Renault Sport on the track for the money.

it's slow, and handles better than a boat... Tiff is clearly the better driver, and struggled to win (note using the handbrake for the reverse 180 and more). No shame or anything, but this feels staged, or they would have swapped cars

This Megane can easily be remapped to 300 HP, which is something most owners do.
86 can't match that turbo power.

@@michaelteofilo5204 they have a history of blowing up when turbo'd or supercharged. Usually an engine swap with that chassis is best. Awesome car though and that's coming from an RS265 owner
Also RS has a much more capable chassis than GT86. RS is a much more capable, much better handling car.
The Renault has way more torque with the turbo. I'd say the Toyota more fun, but the Renault a more serious track machine

@@Shay-eo5kp doesn't make much difference, the Meg stock was still scary, faster than his supercharged type r he had before, point being that in this test which had a car made for fun vs a car made to tackle tracks quickly they had a fwd car trying to drift, the fun of the meg comes differently and it depends what you want but since his TRD came with the hks supercharger my point remains valid yes?
With a better driver could easily have been 2-1 the other way

FWD cars will always lose out for drift style slides, particularly up against RWD cars, so this test in particular was pretty much biased and unfair. To state the FWD Megane lost to the RWD Toyota in a test which favoured the Toyota is a bit cheesy. Bottom line: The Megane spanked the 86 on the fastest lap test where it matters. Simple.

FWD was introduced to cars as is faster, easier and cheaper to build for car makers. That's only advantage of FWD over RWD.

That’s the worst comparison I’ve ever seen. I’ve owned both and tracked both. These 2 are worlds apart in handling. The megane is that much quicker it’s not even funny. Do you see the Toyota even close to a megane around the Nürburgring. Nope. It’s like comparing a megane to a gt3 rs. Just ludicrous

Vicky and the way she drives that Megane is just dreadful. In this Test, Megane's strength here is the G turn and she uses the handbrake to do that, and each time comes to a dead stop and again accelerates from that dead stop with the FWD. that is just dreadful!

It's a Subaru, same as the Celica is a BMW as the Toyota Yaris is a Mazda.
Only partly true. Designed by a Toyota engineer, Toyota transmission and Toyota specially designed diff, Subaru motor with Toyota designed intake setup and sump, built in Subaru factory with lots of bits, lights etc, branded with Subaru name. It was always a Toyota concept and they had to talk Subaru into taking part.
