The Cessna Citation II are light single pilot jets built by Cessna. They were first announced in September of 1976, first flew on January 31, 1977 and was certified in March 1978. Over a thousand of these jets were built and delivered. And many of them are still happy flying around the world.
I had the awesome opportunity to check out a 1982 model on my trip to VA. This Citation II is owned by a good friend Raf, who flies it for business and pleasure. It is well equipped and upgraded to glass avionics; Garmin 700 and 750s. Also comes with a nice autopilot system that makes flying this jet a breeze.
Raf also has a great foundation: Forgotten Heroes Foundation forgottenheroesfoundation.com
This particular jet was purchased for about $500,000 and then another $200,000 in upgrades. Viola you have a pretty neat private jet for short hops in comfort. The Cessna citation II will seat 9 people comfortably, go up to 2,000 miles at 400 mph and you’re burning roughly 200 gallons of fuel per hour on both engines.
    Here are some more stats
Engine: Pratt & Whitney JT15 (about 3,000 lbs of thrust each)
Cruise speed: up to 464 mph at 35,000 ft
    Range: 2,299 miles
    Rate of climb: 3,040 ft/min
Operating cost: about $1,200 per hour
    Price: $500,000 - $1,000,000

Yeah Mojo !! An L-39 and now a Citation II. When I was getting my ticket in the early 80's, the Citation line was the family station wagon of the air. Not the fastest, not the highest flying, but those straight wings gave it wonderful lift at low speeds. She is a beautiful bird. Thank you Mike for this great tour / vid.

I knew a couple that owned a Citation and that was how they made their living up until their retirement. They owned the plane and rented it out and did charter flights with it, great planes for small ma and pa charter business and inexpensive to work on compared to some of the other jets in it size range.

Hi Mike, thanks for the videos they are great, I have a question about high TT aircraft particularly turbo props which I am interested in. You did a video on 5 of them and one in particular caught my attention, the Merlin III. All these aircraft are going to have high hours 5000 - 8000 plus so aside from the cost of maintenance on engines which you would have to cover anyway, what is the cost on on air frames like? Does the airframe eventually fatigue so much that it is unstable and too flexible? What are your thoughts on this? Thanks Craig

The problem with older jets is that when the engine overhauls are due they are totaled. It will cost $800k to overhaul them and the plane won’t be worth $800k when done.
Basically these old jets are worth whatever time is left on the engines until overhaul.

i guess these older jets are now cheaper than anything else with jet engines. 20 years ago I was told there were no 1 million dollar jets by my flight instructor. Must be the market pressure of the newer 3--5 million dollar ones that has driven them down this much.

    • @nightflight1454
      @nightflight1454 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

That's not what it is .#1 these old jets are a money pit ,and parts are sometimes hard to come by and extremely expensive. #2 the banks refuse to finance jets over 20 years old .This airplane would cost the owner a ton of money to stay airworthy .The maintenance, and timed out parts that must be replaced never ends.

I'll take this over a vision jet though. For less than a mil you're rock and rolling for at least 5 years, and then get it off your books for the same price you paid for it.

    • @Karl__Pierre
      @Karl__Pierre 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@mojogrip i get the logic completely. Operation costs is what I was thinking about but once you factor in the depreciation you will see on the vision jet this is the better choice. For now both are out of my world I am still debating Malibu, sr22, bonanza, kerosene aint happening until 2025 or so. At which point the debate maybe turboprop singles vs vision jet vs late model single pilot light jet or mustang.

The single biggest factor on determining price on an airplane is time on the engines. And how much time or cycles remain before maintenance or replacement is needed.
What makes the aircraft so relatively low priced is that it has old, thirsty high time engines that are getting harder to find parts for.
    And the avionics are dated.
What this aircraft is a candidate for is a rejuvenation. New interior, avionics and some new Williams turbofans and it is set for another 30 years of service.
You will get an airplane with nearly the same capability as a new build for about half the price.

      $360 / hour for 200 gallons?

MIKE - Please, you have GOT to check some basic facts against online aircraft performance databases (to save yourself from saying some very basic mistakes). Try risingup dot com, or simply search for "Aircraft performance database"...
FYI - early citations burned about 160 GPH PER SIDE at cruise. If you were burning 200 gallons TOTAL, then you had it pulled WAY back on power settings. NBAA IFR range is 1064 nm, cruise is 348 knots

Actually I don't. I just flew the plane on the right side and I spoke to the PIC through the entire flight to get those "basic facts". Just because risingup has a general database doesnt mean this is the case for every single aircraft 😊

@@mojogrip the internet can provide basic facts with about 60 seconds of searching.... it would be a double WIN. You would learn more about diff aircraft (win 1), and your viewers could count on you presenting reasonably accurate facts (win 2)... but, if 60 seconds is too much work... it's not like you are trying to make a career out of your channel or anything, is it. (sarcasm, sorry). You should give it a shot.

Dude, you’ve got to work on your presentation.
Saying “that’s emergency door” when it’s clearly written,.....dha..🙈🙈

Way too many inconsistencies. Does it really burn 200 gallons/hour? or is that 200 pound/hour? Big difference.
Did you really fly 48 minutes each way? Is the range on that really only 1000 miles? Seems way too little.
You cause me to doubt much of what you claim, especially when you keep saying Knots per hour.
Hope you get you plane built. Keep up the mistakes and you will lose subscribers fast.

well, everyone has to start somewhere. Mike is very low time, and never really flown anywhere (or anything) other than the little plastic box that he learned to fly in.... and that was only a few years ago. Sometimes that fact shows... he is learning and getting better tho
