Planning, designing to execution .. Ung tahimik lang pero we see fast results. ❤❤❤ kudos to this admin and all the people behind it. Am excited to see the full development of pasig river. End to end result.
Finally, Roby asked the same question I have for a long time. Our politicians surely visited developed countries and yet they didn't even bother to replicate good things they saw in those countries. Anyhow, let's all support this project . More power to Architect Paulo, Architect William and the team.
finally! someone who sees reality, is not afraid to throw it to officials' faces, knows the solution and has actually done it with better than expected results! i just watched his TEDx talk and nakaka frustrate talaga ang situation ng pedestrians. what he showed are the exact frustrations i have when walking/commuting. sad to see roads being widened and made free-flowing at the expense of pedestrians. ironic how the govt makes driving point to point shorter but forces pedestrians to walk farther and climb higher. i really do hope we see improvements soon.
Arch.Alcazaren sana magtayo ng replica ng Spanish Galleon on a platform looking like a sea but actually a fountain.....to commemorate the Manila/ Acapulco galleon trade during the Spanish colonial period...it could be a new tourist attraction dyan malapit sa Esplanade.... something for tourist to learn a part of our history during the Spanish era
You're so Right in saying that the Pasig River ReHab Program was so low profile and took everyone of us by Surprise. Within 4 months the Showcase part was finished. Again, you said it spot~on. Made DELIGHTFUL "the stuff of Dreams" by your 2 Guests (+ Sec. Acuzar). Magical. Truly impressive, remarkable and admirable, yet DOABLE pala. These guys created a Happy Place that involves and unites people, communities and agencies, etc. There's HOPE for us yet. One thing to do in my Manila bucket list. Thanks so much for this.
Sobrang green na ang Manila, sana naman.magtanim ng mga flowering trees n plants para vibrant n cheerful ang look ng city of Manila.....just like in Amsterdam na may tanim ng maraming multicolored tulips sa city na naging tourist attraction
In Intramuros or an open space in the Pasig River Esplanade, there could be a small band playing Filipino music or a band featuring bamboo instruments playing Filipino music to entertain the tourists somehow to liven up the place , like every hour or so....
Love this interviews. Kudos to Sir William and Sir Paulo for inspiring not only young architects and designers but more to the whole nation. "with political will It can be done" I wish more localities employ their own beautiful esplanades to lessen their trafiic encourage healthy exercise living by walking, jogging and biking.
I become part of DHSUD and one of the first batch of architects in the National Agency. I would say that my former boss secretary Acuzar is an action man. after the demolition of squatters along the railroad at Muntinlupa, I suggested to my brother in law who was at that time working as department head to pitch the idea of building bike/walk paths, mini parks, children’s playgrounds along the railroad and it will keep the squatters from coming back.
There is a proposed plan to build an expressway along the Pasig River called PAREX. What is the current status of this project? and how can the implementation of the Pasig Esplanade convince the government and the public that PAREX is no longer essential?
We will give you the benefit of the doubt and trust BBM admin please complete the 50km(double-side) rehab within 3 years as promised. This will be a real game changer for tourism and the overall image of MM
sana yung mga architects ng Old Manila areas construct n design new buildings in Manila a modernize version of Neo Classical or Beaux Arts design to bring back the ambience of architectural design of the American period, whether it is a high rise building , sana yung facade man lang ay may semblance ng Neo Classical or Beaux Arts design..para may harmony at hindi hodge podge ang designs...ksi ang nangyayari is kanya kanyang design ang mga architects w/o taking in consideration of aesthetics sa mga katabing mga buildings
Pasig River esplanade should be the lung of metro manila. Aside from linear walkable parks there should be forested areas along that river to give life to our natural ecology there. Basically we should be integrating nature in contrast with urbanisation of the MetroManila.
one tourist area worth revitalizing is the Escolta...this street could be transformed into Beverly Hills or Rodeo Drive st like in Hollywood should put up high end shops that sells branded.products like Gucci, Dior, Hermes, Nike, iphones etc...n the old Capitol Theater transformed into a small performing Arts Theater like the renovated Met Theater....n while in the area the Plaza in front of Sta.Criz church should be planted w/ trees n beautifully landscaped n lights all around....this rehabilitation could complete the Intramuros, Binondo, Chinatown plus Quiapo tourist belt....also the Gothic style San Sebastian church is worth repairing n including the Plaza del Carmen....
Think of something or some places in Manila where tourists can go or visit besides Intramuros n Pasig river esplanade....the ilalim ng tulay sa Quiapo could be transformed into a bigger area to sell native handicrafts n souvenirs...
maganda sana yung area ng Old Manila that Includes Intramuros, Escolta, Binondo, Sta.Cruz .n especially Ermita ang Malate areas have this uniform n harmonious design of Old Manila similar to the American architect Burton's vision of Manila na hindi na nasunod ng mga architects in Manila after the war....
Ngayong nalalapit na pagbabalik ni Mayor Isko bilang Manila mayor sana mas coordinated ang urban development sa Manila besides the Pasig river esplanade....marami rin msgagandang plano para sa Manila si Mayor Isko Moreno
the Ermita - Malate areas should undergo an urban re development...MH del Pilar n A.Mabini streets were once considered Manila's tourist belt in the 60's n 70's....we could bring this back by transforming these streets to what they were before but no honky tonk ago go bars n massage parlors , but a string of al fresco cafe, restaurants, hotels, bars, n taverns like the once famous El Bodegon tavern on MH del Pilar where customers could have a drink of beer while listening to singer or simply listening to a guitarist....
the National Historical Commision should be asked to help in bringing back the restoration of these lost jewels of Old Manila especially of the Neo Classical n Beaux Arts designs buildings during the American colonial period in Manila
puro puno nga sng nakatanim sa iba't ibang parte ng Manila pero mukhang gubat...kung saan saan ang tubo ng mga sanga, dapat sana i trim ng pabilog, nxt walan tamang spacing sobra masikip tingnan, also makatanin lang ng puno pero iba't ibang klaseng puno, may maliit may mstaas, walang uniformity, kaya walang aesthetics parang gubat ang dating...sng lastly sana being a tropical country sana ang puno na tanim ay may colorful flowering trees....like the Caballero or fire tree, Banaba tree, Bulayong tree, Golden showers tree, etc..and for edging colrful Bougsinvilla s
Manila needs to develop more tourist attraction n destination other than Intramuros or the Pasig River Esplanade....there shoud be more souvenir shops, al fresco cafes, fine dining restaurants, decent bars n taverns , art galleries n museums around the tourist belt of Manila
our bright Filipino architects can probably come out w/ a Neo Classical designs mixed w/ Filipino features just like the Metropolitan Theater incorprating banana trees in the stain glass design etc...
a large vacant area adjacent to the Cultural Center still remains idle...the area could be transformed as a sort of Broadway or West End for different performing arts festuring ballets, stage plays n dramas, Museums, etc...the Folk Arts center n Manila Film center are rotting but could be restored
another suggestion is to erect monuments in Intramuros to Spanish Governors General who have been nice to Filipinos, Juan Lopez de Legaspi the first Gov. General, Carlos Maria de la Torre, Gomez Perez Dasmarinas, Narciso de Claveria, Archibishop.Salalazar, etc....Pilipino visitorscan try to guess the contribution of these Gov. Generals to our country.... especially to students who are Phil. history buffs.
another suggestion is to build a monument of a small Galleon ship near the esplanade preferably at the soon to be vacated lot of the Immigration bldg.....to commemorate the Galleon trade between the Philippines n Mexico...this could be the center piece of the Park...n serve as another attraction of Intramuros...
a perfect location for this galleon replica would be the area next to the Plaza Mexico n immigration building where the monument of Magellan once stood before it was destroyed during WW2

Manila needs something like the construction of a branch of Universal Studio like in Singapore....or turn the huge vacant land of the Cultural Center into large Musical Entertainment City like the West End in London or Broadway in the US ....ee have a large pool of musical talents but not enough venues..... Manila could be turned into the Musical city of Asia for foreign tourists to come since we don't have ancient temples n pagodas..big musical entertainment ia a big money maker especially now that the trend is musical performances of Korean Kpops groups etc
to Pilipino architects n designers sana ibalik yung ambience n charm of Old Manila in the Intramuros, Binondo, Sta. Cruz, Ermita/Malate areas....when Manila was once regarded as the "Paris of Asia"...we don't have Buddhist temples n pagodas like our Asian neighbors but we offer foriegn tourists a different Manila by bringing back how beautiful Manila once looked like before it was left in ruins during WW2...what Manila lost was the charm of Manila during the American colonial period with Western styled Neo Classical , Arts Deco n Beau Arts designs of most of our gov't n commercial buildings especially in the Escolta n Binondo areas... hope these architects could create back yhis buildings with Filipino features in their designs..what we need in the tourist areas of Manila are not skyscrapers but low rise buildings somewhere around 4 to ,5 floors only in height...leave the skyscrapers to BGC , Makati n other parts of Manila
our architects n designers should think fast n be creative in designing and constructing a world class , iconic n unique Pearl design as a symbol of the Philippines, the Philippines being known at one time as the " PEARL of the ORIENT " before other countries beat us to it the construction....an example is the Merlion... Singapore's creative designers thought of idea....we could have built it first if only our designers then were creative in building a symbolic n iconic designed symbol for our country....the merlion is also found in our Presidential seal n currency as a Sealion holding a sword...the other option for the Philippines is to construct a unique, world class n iconic PEARL designed monument or structure as the Philippine symbol before other countries beat us in constructing a pearl design structure
Manila does not have an ancient Asian architectural structures of Budhists temples n pagodas.,..but what we have is an architectural design that is Hispanic or American colonial design n this what makes Manila different from Bangkok or Jakarta or Tokyo...lte us sana bring back out colonial designs...as Manila eas once known as "the Paris of the East " during the American period before WW2 because of the many European designed buildings
what we need in the tourist area of Manila is symetry in formsl design n consisttency in the existing buildings.....the renovation of Rizal Park in constructing the new biluildings in accordance with American Burnham original designs for Manila...is a good sign in the right direction...area of the campus of UP Manila with its preserved Neo Classical bldgs including the Supreme Court should be repainted....also the Sundial built by a Jesuit priest inside the UP Manila campus should be restored to become another historical attraction in Manila
the immigration bldg.once vacated should be transformed into a public Park....a monument of a galleon that ply between Manila and Mexico duting the Spanish colonial period could be erected in the middle of the Park as a reminder of the Manila / Mexico Galleon trade....this area is perfect location because it is near Manila Bay n the Park could also serve as place for the spill over of tourists once the esplanade is completed....as it is now the esplanade is too crowded especially on weekends n it is impossible to enjoy the beautiful view from the esplanade ksi masyadong siksikan n it is difficult to move around especially gor the Senior citizens
Ano pa ba kaya ang pwedeng gawin para mad attractive ang Manila sa mga foreign tourists.....considerin sa lack of open vacant spaces.....one last vast open vacant area remaining in Manila is the property of the Cultural Center where Star City is located
Tourist can not just walk n walk , it would be nice if they could go into a tavern , have a nice cold beer or dine in a fine dining restaurant along the tourist belt....
sana ituloy or improve yung original plan ni American architect Burton sa Manila...there are other areas worth reviving or restoring like the Neo Classical buildings of UP Manila campus....the buidings need a new coat of paint,...the original Sundial built by a Jesuit priest in the UP Manila campus n destroyed during WW2 should be restored n reconstructed w/c could be a tourist attraction....this whole street in Padre Faura. could w/.these Neo Classical buildings shoud be rehalibitated as a tourist attraction...
Have they visited it recently? Muoa na syang talipapa 😂 As usual puno na ng sidewalk vendors. Government is just plainly inept in enforcing rules on the streets. Hopeless. Sayang ang gastos. I hope they will just privatize it to maintain the cleanliness. Look at BGC, the reason why nfi napapasok ng mga dugyot na vendors kasi private, bawal sila dun kea BGC was able to maintain its orderliness and cleanliness.
It’s just starting, I’m sure that the vendors will be ordered to discipline themselves in order for the place to keep clean. The vendors are also included in the plan because the plan is for small businesses to thrive and help them earn a living.
12 years na ang Iloilo Esplanade and it is NOT privatized... until NOW mabibilang mo lng sa daliri ang sidewalk vendors.. usually sa early morning at evening mo lang makikita.. they are serving buko juice ang kakanin to joggers and walkers.. tapos in just 1 to 2 ours.. nawawala na sila. And they are located sa ends and outside ng Esplanade pa. So NO NEED talaga to privatized a project like this.. POLITI 49:41 CAL WILL lang talaga.
Why not? During calamities like typhoon using bicycle is the most practical to go from one place to another since one can easily get over debris or obstructions on roads and passageways.

Paolo Alcazaren's efforts at the Iloilo Esplanades has become a benchmark for all LGUs around the Philippines. Fact.
Salute to the architects, PBBM, and everyone involved in this project. More brains working for Philippines long-term growth and sustainability please.
