#AfternoonDelight | Landscape architect and urban planner Paulo Alcazaren talks about the Pasig River Esplanade, which is part of the Marcos administration’s Pasig River Urban Development (PRUD) project.
He says that the first 500 meters of the Pasig River Esplanade were designed in a neo-classic style to match the Manila Central Post Office building.

I am not a Filipino, but I am living in the Philippines for 2 years now , Iloilo River Esplanade is one of the best that I have seen, from a dead polluted river like Pasig to be the center of attraction of Iloilo City. Political will of the Local Govt. of Pasig is needed for this project to be a reality. Good Luck Pasig!

It's small compare to areas of Pasig River and as said by the architect the Ilo-Ilo esplanade design is practical unlike the Pasig more grandeur to compliment the neo classical buildings and the historical value of the places around therefore, costlier. But still happy for Ilo-Ilo, so we can make it as a model for the rests of our cities that have rivers.

This is probably because of the local importance of the Iloilo river to the myths of Ilonggo people, the migration of the Bornean datus and Hinalawod poetic epic cycles contributing to its vital volkisch significance for the Harayan and Hiligaynon speakers. Unfortunately, Pasig River simply does not have a poetic, mythic or religious significance or background to the past of the Tagalog people except as a backdrop to political and economic activities. Of course we can hope for environmental and urban planning but without those motivations, the two are not comparable. Of course the scale of both rivers are also different.

What's needed is to fast track this program of urban development in Metro Manila. DHSUD Sec. Acuzar seemed to be the right person because he can deliver what PBBM and his FL wanted to achieved for the Pasig River development. The river is one big artery of Metro Manila and need to be cleaned up and beautify. LGU Mayors need to be aggressively involved and have their respective esplanade constructed. Metro Manila need more green parks for people to breath fresh air. Metro Manila mayors have to get rid of the shanties at the side of the river. People living at the side of the river are throwing their trashes in the river. Manila, Makati, Pasig, Taguig and Cainta has to do more cleaning of their esteros.

What truly exhilarates us is the ambitious goal of completing this transformation within a mere 3 years, all while PBBM continues to lead our nation as President. This demonstrates an unwavering dedication to the cause, ensuring that every step taken towards reviving the Pasig River is infused with the utmost enthusiasm and urgency.

Inter-agency scheme for rehab started during Duterte. I remember 2018 my clients in Environmental na nag panic when the govt cancelled their Discharge Permit exemption at marami na penalty at nagpa install ng wastewater treatment plant-- That was the turning point of the drastic improvement of water quality. Now, the main problem na ay household wastewater. Noon rin nag umpisa beautification ng LGU, tho some Like Marikina ay under Gloria. This Urban Planner made it sound that these started under PBBM. Baka now lang sya aware kasi kami focus sa Quality ng water over aesthetic . I remember marami na ang relocate din sa govt housing during Duterte, kaya nag increase din ng NHA housing at LGU housing projects during Duterte at sure under Marcos matapos. Pwede naman credit him for continuing.
Patay malisya nalang no? Grabe framing parang effort ng lahat nabura at yung nag take over ay kunwari ''they started it'' lol

the city of Manila needs to build an iconic structure like Singapore's merlion that could be an iconic symbol of Manila....maybe a huge pearl sitting on a shell w/ water flowing on the sides or something of the sort so as to proclaim Manila as the " PEARL of the ORIENT'"... perfect location would be at the corner lot in front of the Immigration bldg. facing the Pasig river where the magestic monument of Magellan once stood before it was destroyed during WW2....

So mukhang pet project nya to at walang halos balita na sa PAREX lately.

    Planners.
    Security and maintenance
    Security: Dapat maglagay
ng minimum 70 guards from Binondo Bridge to Arroceros Esplanade with monitoring stations in between major bridges. Another 20 roaming guards
from Binondo bridge to Arroceros. The 90 guards shall have a 12 hrs duty so you shall have a 24/7 guarding the area. Half of the guards wll be on duty on daytime. Must have CCTV all over the strategic places these include all bridges.
    Health and Sanitations:
    1. Construct 2 toilets in between two major bridges with 1cleaner(12 hr rotation)
    every toilet for 24/7
    2. Esplanade and vicinity cleaners. Assign 24 to 30 cleaners for the whole area. 24/7 assign 20 cleaners on daytime.
I think 150 pesos for a boat ride is high.

another suggestion once the immigration bldg transfers to its new location.... demolish the bldg n turn the lot into a beautifully landscaped Park for the reason that once the esplanade is gully completed there might be a surge of tourists n the place would be crowded , so a Park beside it would serve as place for the expected spill over sa mga mamamasyal dyan n mas ma appreciate yung pamamasyal dyan n hinfi masikip......
