I stopped relying on discipline or motivation alone. I stopped saying "one day" and started saying "day one". These are the 5 mindset shifts I used to do it.

Thank you. I found your advice most helpful. I've been stuck between 1600 and 1700 in my Blitz chess rating and have been trying to find a way to increase it. If I can improve by ten rating points or 0.6% a week (I'd need to win two games), I will have increased my rating by over 100 points in three months. This will set a new high for me. Over a year, this will increase my rating by over 500 points or about 30%. More importantly, I am more confident about improving by ten points than passing the 1800 mark.
Once I hit my goal of a ten-point increase, I can stop for the week instead of trying to raise it 100 points in one day. A bonus will be playing less chess online, freeing time to work on my fitness, writing, chess training, and other interests. This small weekly goal will improve my chess skills, overall well-being, and productivity.
