  • Drone footage of Hiroshima and information about the history and best places to see in the city including the Atomic Bomb Dome, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, Hiroshima Castle, Itsukushima Shrine, Miyajima Island, Mt. Misen Hike.
Hiroshima, a modern city on Japan’s Honshu Island, was largely destroyed by an atomic bomb during World War II. Today, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park commemorates the 1945 event. In the park are the ruins of the Atomic bomb Dome, one of the few buildings that was left standing near ground zero.

This is going to sound like the start of a joke, but this is true: did you hear about the man who survived the Hiroshima bomb? His name was Tsutomu Yamaguchi. After the Hiroshima bomb drop, he travelled to Nagasaki (yes, the trains were still running) and survived the bomb drop there as well. He lived well into his 90s dying in 2010.
This is a great video, but I would take issue with the idea of Hiroshima being a direct act of revenge for Pearl Harbour (that would be the Doolittle bombings in 1942). Pearl Harbour took place in December 1941 (incidently after the US had forced the UK to stop its alliance with Japan and the US embargo of oil exports to Japan), whilst Hiroshima occurred in August 1945. Inbetween were years of hellish fighting, that took hundreds of thousands of lives on both sides. The atomic bomb drop occurred for two major reasons: to force a Japanese surrender after 3.5 years of fighting in the Pacific theatre and thus hopefully avoiding thousands of extra US and Allied casualities trying to invade the home Japanese islands; and to show the Soviets the Americans' new weapon. There is no doubt there was some feeling of payback for Pearl Harbour, but it was not the direct cause of using the atomic weapons against Japan. It worked though, Japan surrendered a few days later and the Second World War came to a complete close.

@@williamtaudien I figured since you made a video about Japan's beauty that I'd make a comment about its ugly history. Japan is the most beautiful country on Earth

If I remember I think when the Little Boy atom bomb dropped and detonated, 700,000 or 70,000 people died instantly.
