The tool you used is properly named a hex wrench, but commonly referred to as an "Allen key" in English(traditional). Our friends in the US of A tend to call it "Allen wrench" or the proper "hex wrench." EDIT: I'm sorry that this sounded impolite. I meant to reassure you that you have the proper name, and give you some trivia about the tool.
That's a great idea... I'm not a fan of melting ,but heat shrink would be like a shoelace tip ... comes in different colours too. thanks fellow knot there..
It's possible to make a turks head knot as long as you want, but sorting out your unders and overs might be challenging. I think it's likely that a bit of searching will find some kind of formula to help work them out.

i like to finish the tips off with a little bit of heat shrink rubber.

is it possbible to make it longer with just 4B like say 30L4B to make a rope type of deal?
