Think of Cadillac’s previous concepts - Sixteen, Ciel, Elmiraj, and Escala, you’re going to love the CELESTIQ. It’s a concept-looking super luxurious flagship that’s actually entering production. It will have design features that recall the Cadillac’s of the Art Deco Era. This is a massive car. It will define the Cadillac brand in very short time.
I totally agree, with the EV platforms Cadillac can return to the land yacht era without having to worry about emissions or power delivery. If GM can get those numbers for that Hummer behemoth getting impressive numbers for the Celestiq will be no problem. Also I'm happy they are getting away from the Euro alphanumeric soup and going back to actual names for their cars. It also looks like they are sending the bean counters away and heading back to being a proper halo brand.
@@anydaynow01 Plus, since it’s electric, it gives engineers more design freedom. CELESTIQ is unlike anything else on the road. But, it’s still a bit polarizing. CELESTIQ will be powerful, 600 HP will be the base. It comes standard with AWD and four wheel steering, similar to the Hummer setup.
I preordered a 2023 Cadillac Lyriq AWD. Can’t wait till delivery 😢 My Cadillac dealership promised me that there is no overcharge. As spec’d I expect the vehicle to be slightly under $70,000. I could always go to a DC Fast charge if I needed to get charged quickly say to 80% (would like to know the charge profile when you do a later video) and finish it at home. You did not mention that '23 model comes with a $1500 credit for charging or for installing a L2 charger. I'm going the charger route as this vehicle is an in town or within range trip vehicle. My 2014 Audi Q5 TDI (35 mpg highway) will do the long haul trips. Some data from GM China the Lyriq. I want to see more of a boxy ute mainly because it has a more useable rear cargo area. I like the Rivian R1S because it has that squared off rear cargo area. My wife's Mazada CX-9 has the sloping rear door and it can be difficult to get taller items to fit without folding down the middle row.
They would have to move the front wheel rearwards instead of maximizing the wheelbase like they have now. Look at a Tesla from the side and you can see how the front wheel is right up against the front door.
I have owned a Porsche, Audi’s and now a Lincoln Continental. I expect the Lyriq to provide the road handling of the Porsche, the roominess of the Audi’s and the luxury of the Continental. In my opinion, GM has hit a home run with the Lyriq. I have a 4WD on order. My only disappointment with the 2023 Lyriq is the absence of the HUD system which, I believe will be on the 2024 model.
I pre ordered last year and dealer placed the order to build yesterday GM starts building Canadian lyriqs next month. Looking forward to it I’d like to know what the sound system is like please?
I doubt GM has a choice in the matter in terms of converting to "all-electric", but I wish them well. Cadillac missed the boat a generation ago when it had the opportunity to be uniquely Cadillac with the Ceil & Elmiraj designs, but instead copied BMW & Mercedes-Benz. Cadillac, like Lincoln & Chrysler, should be catering to the International Monied Class, and be building modern-day Hummer'fied Duesenbergs IMHO; but sadly that ship has sailed ✌️
Great video Alex! I couldn’t help but notice that you’re wearing your Apple Watch reversed (the digital crown should be pointing out toward your finger)
Cadillac has been making incredible cars for years now! Escalade and the Blackwings are the best in their classes and Cadillac’s chassis are the best in the business
Look at any mainstream recent Cadillac model and you will see that’s not the case. XT4, XT5, XT6, and the non V CT5 and CT4 are generally not that good. The 2021 Escalade is nice but the generation before it wasn’t all that special.
@@nothere572 I agree. They've built amazing performance cars for about 20 years now, but most other offerings were tepid at best against the competition. This is a good change for Cadillac. It seems they finally understood that the total package is necessary in the luxury class.
I love my at-v. When I needed a four door and decided to trade in my Lotus I assumed I was going to get an m3, but the cadi sedans drove better than the bmw.
I'm a bit shocked at how much I like it. Definitely wasn't a fan before getting a closer look at it in recent videos. At this price point after the bugs are worked out in a few years. I'd definitely get this over a Tesla "blob". But I don't believe EVs will quickly get to a charging speed on a household outlet I find acceptable.
I really liked your video it was very informative but I just have one suggestion you have to slow down when you're talking about the lyric you really talk quite fast just my opinion. Now I ordered a Cadillac lyric in May of this year I already have an order number from the factory and they just sent me an e-mail a week ago letting me know that I should receive my new Cadillac lyric sometime in November or December. I am really looking forward to getting my new EV I feel very confident that this vehicle will stand up to its expectations. Once again thank you for a very informative video.
You’re a great reviewer! Hit all the important points. I already ordered my AWD but Im wondering why I can’t get the 22’ Wheels, which are very nice, with the all wheel drive model. Do you know why?
Have a preorder for a 2023 model to replace my 2018 Model 3. Not sure I will get this or the Fisker Ocean or Rivian R1S (both also on preorder). Cadillac did a nice job with this but some obvious trade offs on performance and capabilities versus the other two competitors. I do not love the interior (sorry) and the headroom looks very limited at 38.6 inches. Still, this is a great first outing for Cadillac.
That is a super sharp machine! But…I can’t help but wonder how well that video game front fascia is gonna fare in real world driving. It appears to be totally unprotected by any sort of low speed bumper. Are those just a thing of the past now?
In many countries amber is required. It may still be red here and amber there. Very easy to use different LEDs. I wish they'd just standardize on amber. It used to be a styling matter, as they preferred an all-red lighting unit, but with LEDs that really doesn't apply, as an amber LED looks just like a red one when they're off.
Good review, as always. I think I would have dinged them more for the 400v platform vs the 800v for charging purposes, but I do appreciate you mentioned it in passing. I think the rate of charge is a pretty huge difference worth harping on for EV acceptance by families and the 400v vs 800v is that line IMO.
I was curious about this impact as well. I know the EV charging landscape is always getting better, but are there really that many charging stations around that could, say, charge an EV6 at it's full rate? Doing a search finds 4 in all of WI, where I live, and most of the time it looks like most people aren't getting their max rate or even over 160kW, which is below the max of 190kW for the Lyriq, even at 330kW stations. So, right now at least, the really high charging speeds on other models (maybe not the Y) may not really be as big of an impact as one might think.
@@TrustMeImAnIdiot In states with a more mature charging infrastructure (like California) it matters. It is also going to become increasingly common as new stations come online, as they'll be built to the latest standards.
Off-topic: 13:33 Utah doesn't mess around when it comes to road shoulders and just look at that never-ending turn lane in the middle. That's basically a 5 lane road & they're only using 2 lanes (most of the time). Yikes.
Mixed feelings about the styling. Like the overall size and proportions, love the vertical headlights and adjacent "vents". Dislike the whole tail end, including the curvy C-Pillar panels and the taillight placement. Hate the stripy shield "grille" most of all. It just looks busy and arbitrary. If just the shield were striped it would look much better. The interior is just plain nice. Every brand will be going towards the panoramic display for good reasons. I'm so glad to hear it's an LCD, not an OLED. Burn-in is a real problem for those, and a car display would be just asking for it. As long as the LCD looks good in bright light (often a problem for LCD phones), there's no major advantage to OLED. The price is truly remarkable. I wish it had faster DC charging, a big reason I'd favor the Genesis over this. I also much prefer the less glitzy GV-60 styling and the size is ample for me. This has a somewhat nicer interior, but not enough that I'd choose it. The Genesis DC Fast Charging is just too compelling for those of us who take road trips. The added range of this is nice, but the Genesis can add those extra miles in a few minutes of charging. So for now the Genesis would be my choice.
The AWD has a slower recharge and less equipment, but 500hp!(not grandmas XT5 anymore) Although range for it has not been released, I strongly feel it will be in the 279 range. Also this is consider the base model, I can only imagine what a Platinum packed car would be.
Placed my order last week. For me Cadillac really found a sweet spot across the board. My wife is all about styling and could care less about EV technology, and that’s why she’s never been interested in a Tesla. This has a stunning interior, good looking exterior (love the front, back end is a little funky) good range, good charging speeds at an amazing price point. Caddy could have shot for best in class range, charging, ect.. but it would have driven the cost way up. I’m really impressed with the package they put together. Certainly not perfect, but they did enough to get my reservation. As long as the dealer I selected doesn’t try and put a ridiculous market adjustment on it, I think this will be the EV for us.
Hyundai/Kia have the fastest charging in the world and the Ioniq5 and EV6 aren't any more expensive than their competitors. GM and others just need to follow their lead and do it. The investment is up front, but it can be spread over a huge number of vehicles.
@@markmiller3279 Totally agree. But I’ll sacrifice a slower charge rate for a more premium (IMO) interior. The charging will seldom be an issue for us. 90% will be charging at home. So a few minutes extra now and again wasn’t a deal breaker. I’m certainly impressed with Hyundai/ Kia technology. My wife could care less. We can both be happy with the Lyriq.
The AWD 500 HP should move this thing to 60 in around 4.5 seconds For $65k, next year, it would compete directly with the Model Y Performance and EV6 GT The Tesla has a charging station advantage. Both will have a power/performance advantage This should be two steps ahead of the Tesla in interior design and luxury and a step up on the EV6
EV6 GT is also expected to cost what, over $70K like the Y Performance is? And it will have absurd markups because Kia... I expect the V version will give these two a pretty good run for their money on 0-60 times one day. And I agree, this interior looks leagues better than both of those.
@@TrustMeImAnIdiot The EV6 GT wont cost more than 65K. With the tax credit, it will be under 60K. Just compare the MachE and the EV6 in comparable trims, the Hyundai/KIA are always less. Expect the same with the MachE GT and EV6 GT.
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 likely, I was going off some unconfirmed pricing I was able to find. My buddy has an EV6 Wind AWD, so I've been able to check them out a bit.
I wish the vehicle had the ability to turn off the fake engine noise in every mode of driving. Second I wish it had a pet mode to leave the HVAC on as well as have the ability to contact my phone if the HVAC cannot maintain setpoint or the battery is low.
I would rather get this over the upcoming Lexus EV... Lexus reliablity is unknown as it enters the EV age and judging from Toyota's latest recall with their EV, I guess no one really knows how reliable Toyota/Lexus can be with EVs. Therefore, I'd rather spend my money on something better on paper and looks way cooler.
I'd avoid EVs and all new cars altogether. They're too new to determine reliability, they're too tech heavy, which means they'll be outdated in ten years or less.
@@damilolaakanni paying for gas in an old car is inevitable. Repairs in an EV is not inevitable, and is likely to be less frequent than in an old ICE car.
The problem with doing videos like this across both channels is that I end up watching the whole EV Buyers Guide one, then trying to skim through this one to see if there's anything mentioned here that isn't in the other video. Were people really upset that the main channel was covering EVs a lot? EVs are possibly the most interesting thing happening in the auto world these days, and they are the future of the industry. If anything, I think you should have made an ICE Buyers Guide channel to relegate that content away from the main channel, especially since that content will become less and less relevant with time.
@@jsac3939 It would have been nice, but I suspect TH-cam realities favor having two. People searching for EV content are more likely to be driven to an EV-only channel.

I really like what I see and expect that electrification will finally fulfill the century long promise of a completely silent Cadillac.
I pre ordered last year and dealer placed the order to build yesterday GM starts building Canadian lyriqs next month. Looking forward to it I’d like to know what the sound system is like please?
I had two volts gen 1 and gen 2 and a bolt now I have a ct5v (my last gas car) and now the Lyriq
Great review @Alex on Autos would be interesting to see the range test and charging with free EV GO network Cadillac is offering
Can’t wait to see the Honda on this platform.
And Acura
I doubt GM has a choice in the matter in terms of converting to "all-electric", but I wish them well. Cadillac missed the boat a generation ago when it had the opportunity to be uniquely Cadillac with the Ceil & Elmiraj designs, but instead copied BMW & Mercedes-Benz.
Cadillac, like Lincoln & Chrysler, should be catering to the International Monied Class, and be building modern-day Hummer'fied Duesenbergs IMHO; but sadly that ship has sailed ✌️
Re: the vertical lights that you mentioned …doesn’t the Cadillac XT5 also have vertical lights on the front ??
Thumbs up for the chime.
I have ordered the RWD expected delivery fall 2022.
Good looking car with a nice name for an electric powered Cadillac.
I don't like crossovers, so I looking forward to your review on the Celestiq sedan.
I'm a sedan driver too, but don't got 300K to spend! This is coming. Check it ot.

8:30. I like the new steering wheel
Really? In what category?
I love my at-v. When I needed a four door and decided to trade in my Lotus I assumed I was going to get an m3, but the cadi sedans drove better than the bmw.
I want one 😫
Saw the video, made a reservation for 2024 model.
By then the 2023 model year flaws should be taken care off too.
Where can you reserve for MSRP?
Uh oh, I actually find that I really like this Cadillac.
Pre-ordered awd, liked the price and more room in the back for child seats. Model Y is a bit cramped and having to pay $8k for autopilot sucks.
I really like the Cadillac Lyriq. I just wish it cost $50k or less. Dreamer! I suspect a Hyundai Ioniq-5 is in my future.
You’re a great reviewer! Hit all the important points. I already ordered my AWD but Im wondering why I can’t get the 22’ Wheels, which are very nice, with the all wheel drive model. Do you know why?
I run snow tires Year round.........And there are no decent 22' snows..........As yet................Paul
Where was this filmed? The mountains are beautiful.
I can't day I am terribly impressed by the styling of the Lyrique. Outside of that it seems ok.
Is there a Frunk? What is the storage like in it?
Have a preorder for a 2023 model to replace my 2018 Model 3. Not sure I will get this or the Fisker Ocean or Rivian R1S (both also on preorder). Cadillac did a nice job with this but some obvious trade offs on performance and capabilities versus the other two competitors. I do not love the interior (sorry) and the headroom looks very limited at 38.6 inches. Still, this is a great first outing for Cadillac.
If there was a nationwide charging network, why would anyone buy a Tesla compared to this?
Can the light show be turned off?
Alex Dykes working with Tim Masso. I’ll certainly look into that as they are two of the most articulate speakers on TH-cam.
That is a super sharp machine! But…I can’t help but wonder how well that video game front fascia is gonna fare in real world driving. It appears to be totally unprotected by any sort of low speed bumper. Are those just a thing of the past now?
@Alex on Autos the rear turn signal is more clearly amber on the Chinese model. If what I saw was accurate.
@@markmiller3279 Yeah, I like the look of the brighter amber on the top lights.
Yikes.
I don’t see any mention of around view security cameras like the Rivian Stories Tesla
When the target audience confuses brake and accelerator, it's going to do some real damage.
Vertical headlights in Europe are characteristic of Peugeot - a Stellantis brand
1 year later - deep discounts from Cadillac. They are stacked at dealerships.
How much ?
This or your EV6 Alex?
Apples and oranges.
@@scott8919 fair
The AWD 500 HP should move this thing to 60 in around 4.5 seconds
For $65k, next year, it would compete directly with the Model Y Performance and EV6 GT
The Tesla has a charging station advantage. Both will have a power/performance advantage
This should be two steps ahead of the Tesla in interior design and luxury and a step up on the EV6
It looks like the design could be easily adapted to a Blazer EV type design
There's a Blazer EV coming in 2024...doesn't look like this at all, though.
I wish the vehicle had the ability to turn off the fake engine noise in every mode of driving. Second I wish it had a pet mode to leave the HVAC on as well as have the ability to contact my phone if the HVAC cannot maintain setpoint or the battery is low.
GM and electronic gremlins plus hi repair costs this is a lease only vehicle in my book
Recalls don’t have much to do with reliability. Alex says that all the time. And many cars have recalls when they first go on sale.
Remember the Muppets show American eagle we'll, YOU have on Alex the pink version of it.
I also don’t see the need for two channels. I wish he have kept one.
@@jsac3939 It would have been nice, but I suspect TH-cam realities favor having two. People searching for EV content are more likely to be driven to an EV-only channel.
Very cool car…not a big fan of the grill lights…I just see an expensive fix for a minor fender bender…I’m all about the glitz, but here I think it’s a bit overdone and not necessary…Also, not a fan of the long hood. Not needed with an EV. Give me more room. Jaguar was able to do it and look great with their EV. Long hoods are a thing of the past. Get current Cadillac! People want room!
Elantra n front vibes
GM will scrrw it up.
GM axed air suspension for the Lyriq
it has a big battery but range is still.. kinda ok, i guess its just too heavy.
That grille is going to get so scratched up.
Happy to see Caddy getting with the times…
even in my short life, “Cadillac” has gone from “the absolute best, no corners cut, pure luxury, timeless” to “hilariously overpriced, fancy-looking broken features pasted on to a hideous truck”
The back is terrible.
500 HP should be enough for anyone except Idiots and race car Drivers.........By the way....I never get more than 100 HP out of My Mazda simply because I NEVER push it beyond 3000 RPM because of all the racket..............Paul
ENOUGH with capacitative touch controls! Manufacturers should stop messing with them, trying to fix their shortcomings. For goodness sakes just give us real buttons that move when you press them.
I appreciate the effort but I wish that they had done an actual car instead of a crossover/SUV or, as I like to say, a truck.
I'm far more interested in the Tesla, Lucid, Mercedes EQS etc.
Fine....buy what You like......I'm buying the best.....Lyrik...............Paul
First Cadillac I’ve ever considered. Not sure I’ll get it but that says a lot for them. Im kinda shocked GM is putting out decent products.
Then you’re not very familiar with GM lol
@@mybro727 I’m very very familiar. That’s why I’ve stayed away from them. They are always missing the mark in certain categories. Their interiors have been toy like for eons dude. They’re reliability is trash and their designs are either extreme or super econo.
@@jissanhuq3792 You just described Hyundai/KIA to a T. 😂
@@mybro727 i described both of them. Cadillac has always been inferior luxury.
@@jissanhuq3792 that must be why the Escalade has been the best selling *luxury* SUV literally for years…because “Cadillac has always been inferior luxury”. Lol. You’re a clown.
I’ll admit Cadillac has lost their lead in luxury as they focused more heavily on technology and their V-series division has taken off lately being on the forefront of performance, but as you can see they’re making their return back to being the standard of luxury too. To say GM’s reliability is trash, I’d love to know what you’ve been driving.
