A good way to combat this is transparency. Being able to use platinum tokens as currency in ge and adding real-time GE data similar to what osrs has would make price manipulation a lot harder,
@@lolwillow188 Being able to trade them in the GE means the price history will be publicly available and clans can't artificially pump the price up by "selling" to clanmates/alts. Anyone advocating for trading outside of GE when the GE is available would be outed as a price manipulator, as there would be no reason to not use GE with the lack of GE tax in rs3.
Back in the days i bought some gold because i really wanted drygores the moment i got them i stopped playing because my goal was done and started to burn out so i learned that real world trading is not just bad for the game but it takes away the fun the grind might seem hard and long but that makes reaching your goal feel amazing and motivating to get a other goal done
Even when you grind to that late game there's not much to do but keep growing that wealth eval number via bossing. I ended up just starting to collect stuff. One day my guthix arrow stack will hit 10m.
One other huge factor in this imo is that archaeology was release in march 2020. I have been playing rs since 2004 and rares have always been slightly out of reach for me. I remember having about 6m and wanting to buy a santa hat when it was about 12m, but by the time I got the 12m it was out of reach again. This happened for about a decade. When archaeology was released, I grinded it to 120 in the first month. Chronotes were selling for 2k each at the beginning, turning in one collection could net you 20m gp. Vulcanized rubber was selling for 50k each, you could camp the resource and make 1.4m/inv in like 10 mins. I made something like 1B in a month doing archaeology, something a "normal" player like me never saw as possible. I immediately purchased a blue hween for about 450m with my new found wealth. Within about a week it had doubled. I never saw this as a coincidence, archaeology was a huge redistribution of wealth and injected so much money into the game.
For sure! As with any new update, desired items added to the game will sell for absurd amounts of money, and Archaeology introduced a large quantity of them. I agree a price increase would be natural as a result of it, but that would likely fall with time. The separation in the situation is visible in the trade on the forums, where the prices are increased every single trade to boost the price. And with the knowledge from the source of the video, whose desire simply was to boost rares out of the GE for the intention to more easily manipulate the price, it makes it clear to me Arch and other updated didn't affect the prices to the degree it might seem.
it's funny that the holly wreath - being the rarest wearable discontinued item - is too rare and scarce to actually be manipped to the degree of other rares lol
@@Bearded_Tall_Guy defo not its ~1000 in game while bsh is well over 5k+ just from the counted broadcasts of players getting them however, wreath is hideous i'd never wear one in a million yrs

The Golden Partyhat even was a great example of how new rares should be added. The Green Santa, on the otherhand, was a BAD example. I hope we get to see more rares added - maybe white/black Halloween masks? Black Partyhats? Or reintroduce old untradeable holiday items like different colored bunny ears/yoyos/scarfs? They could even have fun with new Christmas Crackers too.
The golden partyhat is EXACTLY how jagex should be introducing new rares. The fact you had to go through a huge rigamaroll of effort to get a hold of it meant that only the people who wanted one could get a hold of one, ensuring its rarity and value. I do hope they introduce more rares. I would say they shouldn't introduce very many, but actually... I wonder if having lots of rare items would collectively deflate the value of rares rather than crashing them.
green santa was the best news for jagex, expect most rares to be introduced to game that way. doing it like gph wouldn't gain jagex any money so pretty much just a courtesy thing for ppl wanting a rare for all
There is a player that claims they farmed 38 golden hats and even more green santas, and was able to pay off their house with the profit. I don't think it was really the best considering one person could farm them on alts :/
the smastest comment so far, if you dont want rares to be so expensive dont make it so easy to make gp, and also dont forget there is players willing to spend real cash on bonds to buy rares, jagex benefit alot by rares being so expensive, being the only ones allowed to RWT.
Especially with RS3, I get the hesitation with deploying a blanket hammer to rare item trades. The people who can put in the time and skill in the game to earn enough money to buy those items legitimately are exactly the players a game dev doesn't want to drive away by obliterating the price with a rerelease.
People that can make billions of GP per day don’t buy bonds with $. It’s your new players trying to get upgrades that spend $. Jagex will find a way to sell items to players for $ that the billionaires will buy up. Thus redistributing the wealth over and over.
@@lidontlo The fact that some of in-game rich players don't even have spent a single real life penny and stay membership forever, while cost of buying membership became way too expansive pisses me so much that it's one of reasons I quitted Runescape. Seriously fu*k this whole bond system. I rather know that there is RWT players in-game, who will get banned once they get caught *than* having Jagex RWT themselves. Why should player who rich in-game avoid paying membership? And why should rich IRL should get easy gp by selling bonds? This is anti-competitive and inequality. Your wealth should not affect the gameplay, only skill and dedication.
@@1God1Fury I mean I am going to have to point out that you are kinda wrong and just angry. The value of $ to bonds is very good. $30-50 gets you a nice gear set up to make 20-30m per hour skilling. So 5-6 hours of gameplay gets you 14 days of member ship. If you play 1 hour a day you can have a member ship for 6-7 days for free after you grind a bit.
@@lidontlo Do you really think that everyone make 1-3m per hour? That is rich people excuse. Just because you can make that much cash doesn't mean everyone can make that. Especially medium levels and f2p players

The money limit is in place due to how Java calculates numbers. While the game isn't run on Java anymore, to change the limit, they'd have to change the fundamentals and basis of how the game engine runs, since that's what it's based off of. It's easier said than done.
I was wondering why items only increase in price once a week or so in the GE is this also to prevent price manipulation? and is it really necessary to give it such a long timespan in between?
I haven't been able to find any information on it recently but when the GE was released the price updated based on volume. Higher volume items update more regularly and that can be seen when comparing stuff like runes to things like t90 equipment. I would assume this hasn't changed but I don't know if the requirements for an update have changed. I also remember something about prices only adjusting a certain percentage at a time to prevent outlier trades from impacting the price but that also prevents items from matching their street price.
Would bringing the original discontinued items back really affect anyone other than the 40 or so scumbags who are manipulating the prices? OSRS has the rares drop every holiday since release. No one on osrs cares about rares and can wear them as they please.
I am one of those with over 70 OG phats and i am not happy with the price they are worth now should have been way lower won most of those hats in the duel arena in the last weekend before the cap and rs needs a big gold sink or a reset with everything maybe for runescape 4 and delete rs3
I'm surprised by the spike in the price of the Crown of Seasons. This is an item that _nobody wanted_ when it came out, because it was a pay to win rare. It sat around 10m for years--now it's over 100m! Maybe this is the result of normal functioning, but it is funny to me. (Somehow the cloak of seasons has always been valued much higher, though. Not sure why on that count.)
I can't believe there's a video! I've been talking to my homies about how manipulated the RS3 prices are right now and how disgusting they skyrocketed out of nowhere!
Instead of platinum tokens, they should be blessed spirit shards. You’re probably wondering, what’s that? Blessed spirit shards are from the revamped Wolf Whistle used to create the Giant Wolpertinger. I think I’d be great to add 120 summoning with a brand new way to also introduce a unofficial currency by making the value of 1 being 1000 gp just like how a regular spirit shard is worth 25 gp and could also introduce the other items in the items used in that quest with more familiar summoning options like the Giant Wolpertinger, higher minotaurs, higher titans, and some other ideas. I want to hear feedback how this would sound
People please listen if you’re buying a green Santa to invest please be smart cause the hat is not yet discontinued it’s gonna be released again in the future so don’t lose your money and just have patience remember it’s just a game and rares do no help you in your stats so it’s a useless item
They have more support and individual attention dedicated to people who break the rules than they do for players who get their items stolen and hacked. It's how they got themselves in this situation in the first place. Their follow-through for rule breakers is abysmal and has always been money driven (the main reason they haven't released the old rares back into the game is due to possible membership loss). They even lie and say rollbacks aren't possible for individual accounts, which is not true whatsoever. The wrong people are consistently given power, whether it's within Jagex itself, within the TH-cam/Twitch community, Reddit, or another community. The problem comes from the top down, and until the company itself gets out of the power struggle with investors, this kind of problem and any other widescale will not be permanently fixed in the game of RuneScape, ever.
The worst thing is that all these people with original partyhats have the WORST fashionscape! Look at that guy at 4:00. What is that top/legs combo? They don't flow at all!
this creates another dilemma tho (although a sweet one) in where you never want to get rid of it because you know it will only keep going up and up. Which essentially means all that wealth is trapped in that item which serves no other purpose =D
@@TwixOSRS pretty much yeah, its all speculation and how much people are willing to pay for it. But for Rs3 rares we havent seen those massive peaks and valleys in their price yet, its just been going up and up
@@Rosterized Good point. Honestly as far as rares are concerned they will continue to rise. If someone hasn't obtained them by now I doubt they will ever afford them later. Tbh though Rs3 is not as popular as OSRS so I'm surprised there's still such a demand for items in that game. Truthfully I'd rather have a Tbow or Ely than a Santa hat or something. But I understand a lot of people still enjoy Rs3. Not sure what a good solution would be.
Perhaps items that come out of the accounts of price manipulators could stick around, coming to random people as a carrier pigeon, npc, drops, mail, etc. Basically this'll keep the total amount of, say, party hats constant, though a few will be behind a hyper-rare drop
Even if manip indeed occured, prices raise was also due to inflation. Most of new bosses released by Jagex alllowed players to generated incredible amounts of money leading to a gold piece devaluation. If 10M's now easier to get than in 2005, why should the prices remain the same when demand drowns out supply ?
I bought a yellow partyhat back when it just hit max cash from the GE. 2 days later the partyhat crashed by 300mil and I panic sold it at a loss. I never bought it again due to fear of losing more money but eventually it rose so much that I could not buy it back. Now its a mistake that keeps me up at night
and how do we fix this issue you may ask? well banning every member of pis2ols and then putting their accs up for bank bidders would be a nice start or actually just do a tournament where other players could win their rares
why would this solve the problem? you'll have those rares crash and be dumped into the market quicker then you could harm a gold phat, then the cycle would start over again with a different group of people
Are the names at 1:40 actual names of shell accounts? Cause i remember some of those names from being in a clan with them for years ages ago, i can't imagine them being the bad people... goddamnit

Personally, as someone who has a green santa hat and a gold partyhat, I find rares silly as they do not have any function in the game other than it being historical or cosmetic. What I do not like is the manipulation of prices of resources. For example the huge price hike in blood runes and yak milk. Yak milk is hard to get making it even more expensive...
While I don't even want to kill players (even hostiles) when playing MMOs, my spot for an ego boost in these games is manipulating the market. Like baiting for people to sell me their expensive stuff through buy orders, taking advantage of price margins, manipulating order flow, etc. This video gives some insight on how to do and not do them :))) Kidding aside, nice videos. I've fallen into this RS rabbit hole cause of your videos
Tokens shouldn't be discontinued at all, just make them permanently rare on the TH, the slow trickle of them will help stop hoarding/making them into oddment buy even at high prices "fast buy with gold, slow save up oddments" A blue party hat is 120b 99.999 % of players will never get one in their life. Maybe its time for a new drop even for limited time to upset the economy ?
drop enough so the price goes down so its actually grindable or force the people to show the price to the actual market instead of trading between eachother and the price will fall because everyone knows 150b is ridiculous
100% Jagex isn’t doing a single thing regarding rare manip they are actually encouraging it. It encouraging a insane play times to build wealth and an involvement that most other games won’t see
The most simple fix would be if your trading with a player for items those items can only be purchased for the limit amount being 2.1b and then have a 2-5 hour trading between players to combat people just trading shards for 1gp to the other player to give the wealth of what the rare is worth on the street. The trading timer would only be involved with trades over 1b
Would you do a video on the history of World 31/42 up until the release of Clans? That's the point where freelance rp officially started dying, and the early history of the rp community is interesting, untapped potential.
I actually tried to get a better look into the RP community at some point, but getting in wasn't very easy... At this stage I'm not sure the history behind it has enough of a pull to be turned into a video on its own, unfortunately D:
@@rswillmissit That's a shame, really. We've always been a very closed-off community, and its a problem thats only gotten worse as freelance died. I guess its almost funny the reason the community is basically- gone now, is the same we won't have that history really recorded.
While this is unfortunate, this is what happens with free markets. The people who are to blame are the ones who "cashed out" as the prices rose. See in a free market the maket will bear only the price people are willing to pay. Supply and demand takes over. There is no new supply for these items so the price is whatever someone is willing to pay. This is one of those basics of economics. If you are willing to sell for a certain price you are part of the inflation. The only reason these prices didnt rise before is no one was willing to pay more. Then a group of players are willing to pay. They buy up all the available, limited supply items and Jagex is supposed to fix it? You sold your party hat and now you have remorse you didnt make more. Everyone should take this as a lesson on supply and demand. Sorry if you dont like my reaponse but it is taught in an economics 101 class. Something everyone should have had to take in high school. Cheers to you all.
Maybe one way to combat the inflation would be a GE tax. Rather than the GE being a free service there is a cost proportional to the value of the item being sold. That way selling to yourself in the GE loses money. Of course this affects normal players but also incentivizes trading in person where this tax doesn't exist.
>Sucess in dealing with gold traders Sure thing, Jagex, let's ignore all the bots in Ed3, frost dragons, cursed energy, normal mode Arch Glascor and Corrupt Creatures...
Would be cool if they kept adding versions with a 1/X chance to be rerolled to the previous versions. Example: every 1000th GSH would be a red one instead. This still ensures enough rarity... but as you said IT IS THE BELIEF, WHAT THEY REPRESENT. The feeling that anyone could get it... would imo just be insane for the game and mostly holiday spirit
Also want to say rares have risen more by the powercreep of PVM. Back when Phats were even 4-17B good GP was 10-15m/hr. Now its up to 100-130m/hr at some bosses. But I like the rare prices increasing (biased) but some like to PVM, some like to get 120's, I like to bankstand at the G.E
There's definitely some inflation in the picture - as it naturally would with time. What separates this situation is the very clear spike of price increase rather than a steady one. Besides Archaeology, there were no updates that would suggest a price spike would be justified - and I'm not sure Archaeology alone would be to blame for the 570% price increase of items like the blue partyhat since March 2020. Do you know if any non-rare item "themes" have scaled similar ways? Eg food, armour, weapons...
@@rswillmissit I mean non-rares like tokens, I have some friends/clan members who had ~700-1.1Tril in tokens before some of the re-releases. Then skilling supplies those are harder, But I know me and some others have stockpiled a lot of SHF and note paper since its gotten so cheap. So far that's over doubled. But happy to answer any questions and YT name is same as RSN.

I made so much money being lucky enough to get in on this early in 2020. I had a like 5b at the time and made 60b over a couple months from just buying some masks and santa hats, crazy stuff lol.
The only way to combat rares is to re release them banning accounts is simply too slow and almost impossible. They could re release a single old rare item every 2 years. Price will still be high but not as outrageously high as it is right now.
The fact that if Chessy018 wasn't ever hacked, she'd taken over the rare economy years ago. I mean she already did before she was hacked with those 1k santas, but that was just the beginning.
Ok, I don't mean to minimize the issue or anything, but I laughed so damn hard at 9:30 😂 imagine quitting the whole game just because you can no longer afford party hats! The real issue is the real world trading, and more importantly the 70% of it that isn't made up of regular players who are engaged in real life criminal enterprises. That reddit post just reminds me of how overly dramatic r/runescape is
Might be an unpopular opinion but I always saw phats as something unattainable, where you’d have to become a god tier mercher to obtain one of these rares. Seeing them being priced so high for me is like a goal to strive for, even if the rate of the increase in price is higher than any money making method in the game. One more thing I’d like to say is, making money in RS3 is as easy as it’s ever been. There are AFK methods that are hovering around 5m/hr, so I feel like these prices are indicative of how much excess gold people have. But that’s my two cents.
You missed a huge reason why rares/items in general on rs has gone up - merchers yes, but INFLATION. Too much gp coming into game through TH/ED, im surprised you haven't touch on ED being full of alchable rewards that even the lowest of level players can farm/bots. Jagex just needs a huge money sink to combat the price of rares and items and make gp more valuable again, that's all, quite simple really.
This is the main issue. I had a red just after the release of vorago when it was ~2b. I never RWT'd, but for fun I looked up how much IRL cash I could sell it for. Back then 2b sold for ~$1500. Looking at the forums it looks like a red is between 40-50b now, and 40b today goes for ~$1600. So, in terms of actual value, the party hats have only gone up a tiny bit, GP is just worth way less now that it was 8 years ago
Inflation is definitely a small part of it, but it wouldn't explain an increase of 570% (blue phat) over 20 months, let alone a sudden spike in March. The slow build up until that point is more representative of what inflation looks like.
@@rswillmissit I deal with the rare market, have bought phats recently, the prices in the last few months are legit and NOT a result of manipulation, it is because of inflation, everyone is getting richer because of price rises (i.e. bossing/lots of methods making 40mgp n hr) as a result of the amount of gp coming into the game making all items in game increase in price, making bossing more money, chain effect. Yes manipulation of alts do occur, but it's from merchers to get 3-4b extra in deals or over inflate rares by a little to their advantage, however, please don't misconstrue this that thats the reason why rares are such high. It's still supply and demand, and right now theres a lot of demand on the OG rares because many are getting richer quicker. Dupe glitch of GP did happen too, which you didn't mention which enhanced inflation further.
@@rswillmissit P.S In my opinion, I also think you're wrong in this video where you think Jagex released GPH and GSH to counter the prices of OG rares. A simple economist could tell you that adding new items won't change inflation nor prices of items. It's just GP circulating around the game. All it did was temporarily freeze prices during december of the OG rares (only a few lower rares lost a little value), however, it's all back up again but even higher. I highly doubt Jagex would be that stupid to release them for this reason because it'd never work. Only a money sink will solve the problems. they didn't release them to fight manipulation either, they just did it for Money for TH/and premier, lets be frank there. Again no mention of that?
Shoot, how much were those friends that you could afford? I think the market still needs a larger currency to dissuade non rates over max stack to be manipulated as easily
Here’s an idea for the OG rares just make them untradable. Sure no one can obtain them that wants them but at the same time it will screw over the players manipulating the price
Jagex will NEVER get rid of gold buyers/sellers. I know MANY people who have sold and bought hundreds or thousands of dollars in gold, and there's no consequences. Osrs btw.
As long as they leave combat gears alone, and why would you want others to know your are rich. Jagex want the whole rwt pie to themselves, but all these extremely invested player are whats keeping the game alive. what jagex can do is harsher punishment for non bond rwt, which might divert people to bond for buying gold.
I used to have a green Halloween mask and like 200 mil cash back in the day I got scammed for it then quit for 6 years. Few months back I checked the price of it over max cash, so I started playing old school lol
I switched over to osrs in 2015after I finished my partyhat set and told myself I’d never sell them but I sold a couple weeks ago cause the price was just too crazy to not sell
Just make each partyhat buyable at the costume store for 2.147B gold pieces. Won't lose any value by G.E. standards only RWT/Street Value, they'll still be hard to get - to the point _most_ players would not obtain one for years, and the real flex would be having one on an Ironman. Only the rare-hoarding chodes would lose out, at which point, cope.
The fact that someone would suggest rereleasing rares after 20 years or deleting them outright is really funny. It gets concerning when you start seeing suggestions like that upvoted to the top on runescape reddit though. Some players are so out of touch.
Interesting video, though personally I don't think much is going to impact this problem given the way things are right now. Honestly if they really want to fix the issue they're going to need to take the damn gloves off for once step in and regulate the economy
there's one major problem that jagex doesn't seem to realize, and its that bonds are one of the most traded, and overabused things currently in rs3 for anyone whos got a bank of over a billion gp. there's hardly a limit on how many you can buy in the ge, and the price has only been increasing (with the occasional crashes), but they are now at over 40 mil each, when last year, they were worth about 20 mil. The sad part is that, 40 mil to a standard player doesn't seem THAT bad for 2 weeks membership, but imagine someone whos barely played the game or just starting out, learns that they can grind in game for a membership they might not want to pay real life money for, only to find out they have to grind damn well to 99 mining (or doing anything else that makes solid money) just to get the chance at seeing the price keep rising up to 50 mil.
A good way to combat this is transparency. Being able to use platinum tokens as currency in ge and adding real-time GE data similar to what osrs has would make price manipulation a lot harder,
Tbh it sounds like being able to pay on ge with plat tokens is just going to make it worse.

The cracker concept is fun. I wish they did it with more things other than the Christmas cracker and golden cracker.
I would love a black phat
There is a player that claims they farmed 38 golden hats and even more green santas, and was able to pay off their house with the profit. I don't think it was really the best considering one person could farm them on alts :/
Jagex should just add a storage wars type auction for banned players where you can bid on banned players bank for in game money
this was a real idea years ago by jagex but never made it
Should.a game I play called GraalEra has it and it works perfect.auctions every month you bid on rares and ultras
Should not forget that one reason rares are so expensive is high inflation of coins.
Then rare item owners should have nothing to fear if a secondary market was added in to trade rares on ;)
Nobody ever talks about it. The game needs good money sinks.
Definitely a part of it! But likely not to the degree we've seen the prices increase; especially so specific to rares.
This! Elder god wars made gp/hr increase by like x5. In reality rares have only kept up with inflation.
the smastest comment so far, if you dont want rares to be so expensive dont make it so easy to make gp, and also dont forget there is players willing to spend real cash on bonds to buy rares, jagex benefit alot by rares being so expensive, being the only ones allowed to RWT.
Especially with RS3, I get the hesitation with deploying a blanket hammer to rare item trades. The people who can put in the time and skill in the game to earn enough money to buy those items legitimately are exactly the players a game dev doesn't want to drive away by obliterating the price with a rerelease.
a donkey's carrot is necessary to keep ppl trapped
Would love to see a "ban redistribution lottery" kinda thing like i hate lotterys cus i never win, but would be nice to see some of the items come back and go to people that arent merchers

Wasn't there a massive gold dupe that happened leading up to that explosion in rare prices? The server crashing one if I recall
The correct way to fight this is to work on updating the money limit and GE limit
That just means higher margins for them lol 😂
That will not solve the issue
The money limit is in place due to how Java calculates numbers. While the game isn't run on Java anymore, to change the limit, they'd have to change the fundamentals and basis of how the game engine runs, since that's what it's based off of. It's easier said than done.

I was wondering why items only increase in price once a week or so in the GE
is this also to prevent price manipulation? and is it really necessary to give it such a long timespan in between?
I haven't been able to find any information on it recently but when the GE was released the price updated based on volume. Higher volume items update more regularly and that can be seen when comparing stuff like runes to things like t90 equipment. I would assume this hasn't changed but I don't know if the requirements for an update have changed. I also remember something about prices only adjusting a certain percentage at a time to prevent outlier trades from impacting the price but that also prevents items from matching their street price.
Fantastic video highlighting the issue and potential "fixes" Jagex is working on
Would bringing the original discontinued items back really affect anyone other than the 40 or so scumbags who are manipulating the prices? OSRS has the rares drop every holiday since release. No one on osrs cares about rares and can wear them as they please.
Are u the real one?

Seems the crown started its raise in August 2020, so could be it was a part of the original manipulation, but didn't take off the same way.
I can't believe there's a video! I've been talking to my homies about how manipulated the RS3 prices are right now and how disgusting they skyrocketed out of nowhere!
AHAHA Also I cracked up when I saw the fish mask
That would only help items that are over max spirit shards pile skyroket
What a great video, at such an unprecedented time.

But I understand a lot of people still enjoy Rs3. Not sure what a good solution would be.
Thank god OSRS didn't introduce discontinued items
Perhaps items that come out of the accounts of price manipulators could stick around, coming to random people as a carrier pigeon, npc, drops, mail, etc. Basically this'll keep the total amount of, say, party hats constant, though a few will be behind a hyper-rare drop
Making the collectables untradeable will work. Or just disable them from being freely traded.

Two hween mask sets, 1 Santa, and a purple, yellow and red phat all for 1.8b... sold them to keep gambling in flower poker hahaha
and how do we fix this issue you may ask? well banning every member of pis2ols and then putting their accs up for bank bidders would be a nice start or actually just do a tournament where other players could win their rares
why would this solve the problem? you'll have those rares crash and be dumped into the market quicker then you could harm a gold phat, then the cycle would start over again with a different group of people

Very good and interesting vid ... as always :)
They aren’t real rares lol
You’d change your mind about them being silly if you owned an actual rare
While I don't even want to kill players (even hostiles) when playing MMOs, my spot for an ego boost in these games is manipulating the market. Like baiting for people to sell me their expensive stuff through buy orders, taking advantage of price margins, manipulating order flow, etc.
This video gives some insight on how to do and not do them :)))
Kidding aside, nice videos. I've fallen into this RS rabbit hole cause of your videos
The santa hats remind me of the huge stack oakdice bought, then lost access to the account
The only people who want the price of rares to drop are those who can’t afford one

also side note, was it a myth that accounts banned with rares have their rares put on the ge at max cash? i guess so!
What if they set a limit on how much of a rare item a single player can have?
There is a limit, 2,147,438,648
Wouldn't the rich players just split their rares on additional shill accounts, though?

Bro this game is wild af

@@rswillmissit That's a shame, really. We've always been a very closed-off community, and its a problem thats only gotten worse as freelance died. I guess its almost funny the reason the community is basically- gone now, is the same we won't have that history really recorded.

and there would still be huge amounts of money in game (inflation)
@Morning Dew and you’re a salty mercher
Then you have the newest one "Tablet of Het" because Jagex forgot the (Inactive) variant is tradeable.
It's being removed Monday retroactively. From everyone's banks
Maybe one way to combat the inflation would be a GE tax. Rather than the GE being a free service there is a cost proportional to the value of the item being sold. That way selling to yourself in the GE loses money. Of course this affects normal players but also incentivizes trading in person where this tax doesn't exist.
>Sucess in dealing with gold traders
Sure thing, Jagex, let's ignore all the bots in Ed3, frost dragons, cursed energy, normal mode Arch Glascor and Corrupt Creatures...
Maybe add identical looking items from a new event?
The real solution is to re add the rares to the game. If they keep making them more rare, this will continue!
Yeah... I skipped the whole "wealth" thing in RS. I'm rockin' it out IRL though. 😂
Ok, I don't mean to minimize the issue or anything, but I laughed so damn hard at 9:30 😂 imagine quitting the whole game just because you can no longer afford party hats! That reddit post just reminds me of how overly dramatic r/runescape is
They should just re release the rare items. The price would tank again for like 10 years, but it would screw over legit players
So what you're saying is save up and get one of the 3bil ish rares while you still can
hello willmissit hope you’re having a wonderful day :)
@@jlahjlahblah Massive coping comments. Yeah its the inflation that only happens to affect rares for some reason, how odd.

Jagex will NEVER get rid of gold buyers/sellers. I know MANY people who have sold and bought hundreds or thousands of dollars in gold, and there's no consequences. Osrs btw.
As long as they leave combat gears alone, and why would you want others to know your are rich. Jagex want the whole rwt pie to themselves, but all these extremely invested player are whats keeping the game alive. what jagex can do is harsher punishment for non bond rwt, which might divert people to bond for buying gold.

@@A_Black_Sheep94 while a good idea I honestly don't know how they'd do it without some form of tax like osrs was taking about
there's one major problem that jagex doesn't seem to realize, and its that bonds are one of the most traded, and overabused things currently in rs3 for anyone whos got a bank of over a billion gp. there's hardly a limit on how many you can buy in the ge, and the price has only been increasing (with the occasional crashes), but they are now at over 40 mil each, when last year, they were worth about 20 mil.
