Thats fucked lool
Lol that was me, odd seeing you here
i can confirm, i was the friend's list

@Rosa Barks he was fabulous.
Probably one of the most brutal things about the game is, when you reach level 92 in a skill, you are half way to 99.
@Dirk De jong shit I had no idea. I'm only a casual player who started in 2019, but I had no idea it was THAT hard to get a 99
@Dirk De jong i have 4 99s and 77 days of gameplay in 7 years. I was not active that much. Its a slow grind. U can get 1 to 99 fletching in 2 hours lol. Some of the skills are easy and some take serious time

Runescape or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Grind.
I spent DAYS trying to figure out a good efficient way to grind and NOT run out of gold cuz the GE is God. The result of my efforts, God was not kind, every skill except combat skills weren't going to make money.... Mind you this was like around 2008ish
Damn. You burnt the fucking amazon down...
"MEIN FUHRER!! I CAN WALK!!"
Alright, shut the comments down on this video. This is the best one.
I blame my years of Runescape for my not minding long grinds in games like Warframe.
32:10 "It doesn't always hold your hand. That's what the 10 thousand out-of-game guides are for."
Yeah community driven mmo. It is what it is and people work together to break it.
The progression in OSRS is very similar to Morrowind. Eventually you’ll be using the house you built to teleport with high level mage spells to locations it used to take you like 40 minutes to walk to. It’s about doin the work to get better at doing the work and also have bragging rights
And just like Morrowind you'll be hitting a lot of 0s in the start.
"doin the work to get better at doing the work" is so true to real life as well. Doing a job to learn skills to do the job more effectively/efficiently and earn more money for less effort is how I'd describe my career.
One thing that i thought about OSRS (newbie here) as soon as i played a bit, is that it felt like Morrowind, couldn't point out why, but i liked it :D
As a child, this game taught me hundreds of real-life concepts that would later be elaborated on in my day to day. How an economy works, why things hold value to others, the science of metal alloys, (once GE was introduced) how to buy low and sell high, the connection between a low combat lvl pure being similar to some phenom IRL that you underestimate but who will kick your ass at a certain thing, how to accept loss, various tree types (that actually came in handy more than you may think), various medieval armor and weapon varieties (useful trivia at times), how to sense danger, how to explore, and many more. It is not very glamorous looking. Its not the game you play intensely. But of all the childhood games I played, a few actually taught me life skills, and increased my critical thinking and use of strategy- Runescape, Pokemon, Chess, and Starcraft top the list.
I learned how to actually sell and buy things on an open market and learned the art of haggling.
Has saved me a couple of thousands across these years of buying and selling used cars.
well thought out comment, it's true for me too
One Thing Games thought me is to literally never stop learning new skills.
Because new skills allow you to craft garbage to something of value.
Like you can make a bird house from wooden scraps or built a lamp with wire and some broken LED bulbs etc. It's waste you'd throw away usually. But with the Accord ming skills you can make something new out of it
Mine was yu gi yoh. Arigato
Runescape taught me how to be wary of scammers
"there are things they could do to make the game more convenient"

How to equip goblin mail?
Forreals. The game has much wholesome in it.
@@Puppy_Puppington Yeah. I think it's probably just because the majority of the game is designed as a long-term grind for personal goals rather than having an "endgame" that everyone is participating in that somehow makes you "bad" if you're not excelling at it. People see others at the start of their personal journey and want to help rather than just seeing them as someone who hasn't caught up yet (as one would be treated in something like WoW).
It's to the point that honestly folks are too willing to help out with items and gold. It doesn't take a lot of gold to completely invalidate a lot of early to mid game content. Someone tossing a noob even 100 or 200k means they don't have to worry about affording gear upgrades through... the entirety of F2P Runescape. It's literal pocket change to higher level experienced players, but it skips the need for money management entirely, and that's happening to a player who thinks 1k is a lot of gold and has no idea how to make more consistently.
It also makes non-combat skilling feel a lot more pointless. Things like Mining can be decent income to a new player, but when they're gifted more money than they know what to do with, suddenly the incentive to level skills like that beyond what they need for a quest just kind of dies. And most early quests don't have significant requirements so that won't really come up as an issue immediately anyway.
Can’t believe that I’ve been playing this game for over ten years and only have base 60 stats

Firstly to everyone who has thought about this game the osrs community is one of the BEST communities in gaming history if you can filter out a largely toxic minority ..theres alot of scammers, toxicity but as a whole its an awesome, welcoming and non-exclusive community...join the osrs subreddit if you plan on playing, its super active, filled with hardcore veterans who have been playing since the early 2000s and the best players in the game are on there...theres a whole lot of memeing, trolling and some toxicity but as a whole its one of the best subreddit communities and the games developers are active on it and take part in the memeing and respond to posts pretty regularly there and on twitter.
Secondly. This review is objectively accurate and well thought out.. you deserve all the thumbs up and subs.
Runescape is quirky and it has this weird snowbally meta where the REAL meta doesn't start til hundreds of hours in and once you reach that point the game gets alot better until you start grinding out the real endgame tasks like diaries, pets etc and then...well.....it's ..something... *cries in 1000 kc dry...* *cries in 70 runecrafting and no desire to grind it*

really cool to see your thoughts on this, as a long time RS and OSRS player. I knew what i was getting into when I got back into it and I went through all the quests with a guide and teleport tablets (lets you skip having the magic level and runes for a teleport). I can see where Jagex mentioned some things too and you begrudgingly mention them (rune pouch).
i "oh no'd" when you went over to the Brimhaven dungeon for level 1 agility, and it was fun to watch you take the noob ritual of dying on White Wolf Mountain. We've all done it, but most of the players did it when they were 12 and it's a fond memory. Now it would be pretty aggravating I agree.Defense not reducing damage lets monsters "stack" (refers to the hitsplats) you out really easily.
It was really cool that you actually got pretty far into the early game. I think you should've mentioned the skillcapes though. Being able to wear one of them really is a dopamine rush when you finally achieve that 13M experience.
great video, you got yourself a new sub. I'd be happy to help too if you do continue to play.
That thing you said about your goal of slayer suddenly having you run across Runescape to do 50 other things is the single most relatable thing I've heard all month. That's 100% what the game is, and it's beautiful.

I know my way around the game is what I’m saying and I’m making this comment to say this video was incredibly interesting to get into a “new” player’s head and I think you did a great job looking past some of the early game grinds and acknowledging that the game does get better with time and higher levels and unlocks. Trailblazer has been a really fun event so far and I’m glad you enjoyed it, if you stick around and play more of the main game I hope we cross paths one day. Thanks for putting together such a great video for a game that means a lot to me
Hey man, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I was a little worried about veterans of the game getting upset with me over various complaints and the like, so your comment means a lot to me. Mr Salt I thoroughly enjoyed your video :) OSRS is my main game and has been for years now. I’ve watched many Yt videos done by people who are new to the game. You did the best job I have seen of someone new getting into the game! Major props for that!
I like that Leagues makes it easier for newer people to access all the stuff that usually takes weeks; it sure reduces the grind a lot.
But at the same time; as an old veteran player; I feel like waving my fist around angrily and yell "BACK IN *MY* TIMES!!" shit xD
Awesome video; loved it.
Keep up the great work Salt; youve really been chugging out gold content.
As longtime off and on again player watching your struggles was adorable. Not in a snarky elitist kind of way. Reminds me of all the silly mistakes and misunderstandings I had learning the game. Hell I still have em. The game is very charming and rewarding to the right people and I'm so thankful they brought it back.
“Praise the lord harder”. LMFAOOO IM DEAD
I appreciate your input on the game as somebody who has played for a long time. You got a new sub 👍🏻
Woah, I've recently discovered your channel a few weeks back. Was watching your elder scrolls and fallout vids(all awesome btw). Was not expecting an osrs vid though haha. I love osrs, great mmo. Been playing RS since I was a kid. Interesting hearing your prospective on it. Btw this video just reinforced the idea that Draynor village should be the level 1 agility course.
for reall thoooo
Mans made a waterfall quest guide in 30 seconds 😂
This is suck a great video. You really have some good points as to what is difficult to new players to understand. I really hope you make some more OSRS-related videos :)
Fantastic video! Thank you for posting this! Funny and informative
I respect the time you put into this review as a sometimes runescape player

Everytime I see the starting area of this game, I get this "fuzzy" feeling inside me. In a good way, so many good memories with my friends. Also memories of us befriending people just to take them to the pvp area and take what little gold they had for a laugh. I've matured and still feel guilty about that
His explanation of doing waterfall quest for the first time takes me way back
I haven't played Runescape since I was attacked by the "Evil Chicken" and lost all my ore XD
Unlucky :(

this is so cool to see. i have played runescape for ~14 years now and this video brings up some amazing memories. and yes most osrs players know the game is far from perfect but that is the reason we love it. the nostalgia of playing this game for the first time with all its flaws. this is true love
This is so accurate it makes me both smile and cry, great vid
I hated this game until I found the grand exchange. "Wood sells for HOW much??" Then my entrepreneurship started, I traded and gained better equipment and vast riches.
Haha lol
2b for?
Now imagine a time before the grand exchange. Where there'd be tons of people grouped up behind the main Varrock bank, with hundreds of messages popping up per second with people selling their goods over chat. That's the Runescape I remember lol
@@MaliciousGrim05
I could not play this game at all without the grand exchange.
"Huh, this quest needs 2 iron bars and a willow log. To get iron I need 15 mining and smelting. I have 20 mining, 7 smelting... Guess I can't get that. And the willow log, don't have nearly enough wood cutting to get... But this npc has it! All the way across the map."
All that tedium is cut out by just being able to buy that stuff! Thank you, grand exchange :)
@@MaliciousGrim05 yea thats why the first dmm without G.E was the best
Anyone else got excited to see Salt reviewing this? I just woke up and was about to go back to sleep, til I saw this. Decided to stay up lol.
Hes good but I think he needed way more playtime to give it a proper evaluation.
"...As good as I remember" isn't a great evaluation when he didnt even get to base 60s back in the day let alone present day.
Gotta say, as someone who never paid for the subscription, one of my favorite things about runescape was that even as a free player I never felt like I had nothing to do. There was always another stat to grind, or another player to help, more runes to make ect. It helped keep me there in the world and actually makes me kinda want to try the paid areas even to this day
I like your open mind and idea. The portable smelters at a high fire making level I think would be great actually. But it’d need to be only useable by that player and also maybe pair it with needing a certain smithing level
While i was absolutely addicted to runescape when i was younger, i get why its hard for people to get into today. Even i dont enjoy it as much as i used to mainly because of how dated and grindy it feels, great video nonetheless
I think it was a much better game back when we were all stuck in high school with nothing better to do. The fact that a potato could play it and without even a USB drive needed to install game files made the game very appealing just for that alone. And it had some unique mechanics to it. Nowadays though, grindy MMOs are a dime apiece. I guess my main question is, if I did want to play a grindy MMO, what sets this game apart from all the other grinds?
@@arnox4554 Honestly the quests are the biggest draw in my opinion. No other MMO except maybe Everquest has ever really resembled it there.
@@arnox4554 You will always want to get better no matter what there is no skill cap. you can always improve in this game even though it seems like it cant be very skill based. the amount of knowledge patience and skill to do certain things in this game is nuts.
@@arnox4554 Because each skill takes 100's of hours to grind out they feel very satisfying once they are maxed, and can be quite useful too unlike most MMOs where it's the quests and bossing first and skills 2nd. This game makes nearly every piece of content in it something worth doing, and there's a huge amount of it. You could easily spend 5000+ hours grinding in this game to do everything and if you instead approach it casually spend twice as much.
@@arnox4554 honestly i think its the charm. And charm is a crappy word to use because i think it gets misused a lot and is generally used as an excuse for negatives in a game, but runescape has a great art style, catchy music, funny dialogues with npc’s and a vast open world to explore. Thats why i like it at least
Is that even a question? Of course OSRS is worth playing, btw love the videos man.
Oh shit! The story about your “stat sheet” reminded me of something from my childhood. I bought a notebook with my allowance, and made a “runescape notebook”. Had a page for every skill. I didn’t even write down experience rates or level or anything. I just wrote down where to buy materials for the skill and costs for spells and useless shit like that. I doubt I ever looked into my runescape book for any info whatsoever.
Man I used to play with my friends in school, with notebooks. We wrote and draw the stuff and faked combat, drops, woodcutting and everything. We played table RPG without knowing this was a thing
@@LucasSoaresy this is fascinating id love to hear more
you never quit runescape, you just have a break from it
So they basically went back to and improved old runescape ? lots of nostalgia thinking back about all the places and member places I enjoyed back in the day
Yeah it's an incredibly fun game. You should try it again
It's oldschool.runescape.com
It’s also community driven. Even the smallest changes need 75% yes votes to pass
It's on mobile too.
Cool, I might check it out guys
Another good one salt, I’ve watched all 69 minutes of it
After I read this comment, I went up to the video to check if it was 69 minutes long

I didn't watch the whole video because I ended up getting into a video game my self. But I did listen to it in the background, and it seems like you did give them a fair review while also putting a nice amount of work into this video. Very nice commentary.
Runescape will always be one of my favorite games. I've spent thousands of hours in it. It's mind blowing that such a simple game can be so captivating. Haven't played in a few years. But I check up on my original account that I made in 2007 from time to time
thats cool but you posted on the wrong video, this is OSRS
“Then my account got hacked” felt that 😂😂😂
Translation: the guy who said his mom would pay for my membership since she wanted him to have friends to play with lied to me.
The guy who told me that Jagex censored my password was similarly dishonest.
