    Another great video Tom. I love how you cut to the chase and show the physical detail of everything you present. I have been asked to livestream an event and have never done that in my professional career. There is a lot more to it than I thought but I am going to borrow a Blackmagic ATEM Mini for it. OBS is a great option though and apparently if your laptop can handle it you can use it to switch between a couple of cameras.

    One issue you’ll face with zoom is resolution. You will see your content (camera, lower thirds, slides, etc) in OBS looking great but when you get them into Zoom through the virtual camera, the resolution is bad. This is because Zoom does not support HD 1080p video at the moment, due to the pandemic. So keep that in mind.

    • @gtopher
      @gtopher 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      that was my question also. its ok when I direct present, but through OBS its fuzzy and useless. I reached out to Zoom support, but obviously nothing. You say "due to the pandemic", does that mean they have announced something?

  • @alyssascott9754
    @alyssascott9754 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Requires that you have both OBS Studio and Zoom running at same time. There was no advantage of using OBS with Zoom unless you want to enhance your Zoom recording. Stick with regular Zoom settings. OBS Studio and Streamlabs OBS is for people who want to get their stuff "creative videos" on Twitch, You Tube or some other website. However, if you have a DSLR / EOS mirrorless camera such as Canon M50 or SONY A6000 with a RODE microphone or other mic., then using the Guide that Tom Antos provided will make a difference for beginners with more expensive equipment. I tried enhancing the use of my Logitech BRIO 4K webcam using this guide and it did not produce a better teleconferencing experience or any difference than using Zoom by itself. However, Tom does deserve credit as there is some benefit to watching and following this guide/ tutorial. Thank you! and be safe.

    nice tutorial. Question about quality of video on the receiving end of zoom conference calls. Doesn't zoom limit the quality / resolution of the video that is being shown, in order to preserve the bandwidth for the two/multiway conversation that happens there? As a result, isn't there limits on how well the video will look on zoom, given these limitations? I can imagine how the video for recorded stuff will look great, limited only by your own machine and parameters, but wondering how much zoom limits the production value? For example, that camera you talk about is a really nice one - can someone on zoom tell the difference if I'm using that vs. say a gopro?

    Using Zoom: My live video on the screen has motion blur. I made the camera setting change to HD (did not help) and just checked my Fios internet speed and it says it is very fast. (111.5 Download, 92.6 upload). I am using a high end ASUS laptop (Quad i7s,16GB Ram, dedicated graphics card, SSD drive, IPS display, etc) and using the built in ASUS Gaming laptop's camera. My wife's laptop cameras on an older Dell and her Macbook Air look really good, but not on my pretty robust ASUS? Any suggestions. The motion blur looks terrible. Great video. Thanks.

    The OBS Studio information was really interesting but the stated premise of the video was a little misleading because the most important thing you did to enhance your video and audio quality involved buying a video camera, big light, and headphones with a good quality built-in mic, all of which are definitely not free, and probably overkill for the basic video conferencing that I and others like me do.

    Under tools I have NDI output settings Checked to "Main.Output". Your drop down selections are all different than mine. First, for monitoring with ear buds, second, the virtual A B show up as two different selections, which one to choose for playing music on the background? When I do try your settings, it messes up all my settings that already work

    For mister anyone, which is most of us, the default image is fair enough.
    We don't care for image quality that much.
    Now sure if you want to look "pro" and or make videos, that's a bunch of nice enhancements.
    I came here out of curiosity. Might come in handy one day.

    Thanks Tom for the informative content, does OBS work with GoToWebinar and MS Teams? Also does it slow ones laptop down alot? Or Internet? Don't want it to cause lag

      Obs will work with any program that uses webcam. It wont slow down your internet but can freeze your computer if you have an old one. But all the current entry and mid level laptops will handle it no problem

    Is it necessary to use an virtual cable tool to use a mic when using OBS with Zoom or only if one wants to use additional sound sources? Because i am just looking for a tool to improve my webcam video since Zoom doesn't offer much video settings. So is it ok to just use OBS with virtual cam as a tool to adjust the video settings?

    Is OBS only useful for recording a presentation for Zoom, or can it be used to enhance the look and sound of live interactions during Zoom? From you introduction about frustrating low-quality tele-fitness classes, it seemed like the latter, but then it morphed into "How to record a presentation" for Zoom.

      I think you should rewatch it bcause it's not about recording a presentation. I get it. It seem a little bit confusing.

      You often use the phrase "your presentation" which leads a viewer to think that you're describing how to prepare a recorded presentation. Is it more accurate to say that OBS gives you the means of creating and controlling an "environment" that can be used for broadcasting, live streaming and videoconferencing? One of the biggest problems I've faced is the distracting lag between audio and video. Can OBS help minimize the lag?
